I caved in… my nephew wanted to watch Divergent, and i went with him. I love these kind of dystopian stories, but from what I knew about this trilogy, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. The story in itself is OK, although I have to admit that I’m a Hunger Games sort of person.
I liked the movie, I really did, the set up was really well done, as well as all the destruction of the city and sceneries. I also liked the story although I found it somehow simplistic.
The acting though, I was not convinced with. Shailene Woodley and Theo James are Ok as the leading couple, but I didn’t find their performances compelling at all, which was a shame… I really liked Shailene in the The Descendants, but although I loved The Spectacular Now, I did not liked her in it. Maybe that’s what didn’t work for me… I honestly don’t know.
I’m not sure if I’ll give the books a chance, though :(…
After watching the movie I instantly decided that I need to read the books. It’s not unsual for me, because I read almost everything that’s about to be made into a movie or that already is a movie or TV show.
I can see why you didn’t always find the actors convincing, but I still loved the movie. Could be because there were those hilarious people behind me in the movie theatre, but I don’t know. Usually, I don’t like it when people talk or make noises in the cinema, but those ladies were so much fun. Sometimes we had to laugh so hard just because of them – so, it could be that I enjoyed the movie more just because of that, but I still liked it.
Oh, and I love the Spectacular Now as well 😀
