Doctor Who: you can breathe now!

Take a Deep Breath and watch the season premiere of Doctor Who! Done?! Now you can breathe! After a long long wait, we finally got our first episode of season 8, with a new Doctor, running around in Victorian London, chasing a T-Rex and automatons.

doctor-who-deep-breath-promo-stils-02

The main thing of the episode is Clara’s choice on whether she’ll remain with the Doctor or not, and, as always when there’s a regeneration, to present to us this brand new Doctor. So, I’ll just say what I thought of the episode…

1. Why so much emphasis on the age, the grey and the old?!

Seriously, why? Was Moffat showing the fans that the Doctor can be old? Well, we know that, actually, he was always older, way older than Matt Smith, and most of them were better at it. So, why bother? Why have 75 minutes constantly reminding everyone of this point, when honestly it’s a mute point… it really shouldn’t matter!!!

2. Capaldi’s Doctor just might make my top 3!DW-12_Ep1_00625_PS

Peter Capaldi just nailed it! Such a different, interesting, intense and darker Doctor. Exactly what we needed after so many years of silliness and jumping around.

Now we have one unexpected Doctor and an amazing actor behind him.

And the accent, I love the accent, I loved his reaction to it! Lovely to see him acknowledge his face, curious to see how they’ll resolve it.

3. Good Clara/Bad Clara…

I’m conflicted about this, see, for one hand, Clara has her best episode yet, she gets some development, she’s fierce, she holds her own (and Jenna Louise Coleman is just brilliant).

deepbreath_claraOn the other hand, Clara seems to have forgotten that she’s met all the past Doctors, all of them, and decides that she doesn’t recognizes the Doctor in this one… well, this would be a normal and perfectly natural plot line if you had another “Rose”, or “Amy”, or any of them really, but you have Clara, the girl who not only knows their faces, but just a few months ago actually met 2 more, and come on, if she could get along with The War Doctor, how could she not recognize 12th? And she knew he was old, if anyone knows, she does, just this Christmas she saw a much older version of 11th and she didn’t react like this… Moffat, you failed on this one!

4. A T-Rex… just because!

deepbreath_trexI still don’t see the point!

They had done dinosaurs before, but this plot could have been achieved by any other creature really, why have a T-Rex in the middle of the Thames, just standing there?

Fun, but pointless!

5. Paternoster Gang… always fun

tumblr_naklegZzdH1qijoeyo1_500I love them, best part of the episode for me (apart from Capaldi) was these three. Funny, light, smart – I really loved Jenny on this one. Still, how do they know so much about the Doctor’s regeneration? When did they meet him? How they came to be? I love them, but I would like them to make some sense.

6. The references

This felt good and weird, somehow! The Girl in the Fireplace reference was obvious and welcomed. “It’s times like this I really miss Amy”… uncalled for and so not relevant! “Chips. Coffee. Coffee and Chips”, well sir she just wants the coffee… Rose would have taken the chips though.

7. The phone call…

deepbreath_11I have absolutely no problem with Matt Smith’s Doctor, I loved him, not my Doctor, but loved him none the less. I do have a problem with that phone call! We had 1 year to get our minds around the idea that Capaldi was the new Doctor, we had 2 specials to say goodbye to Matt Smith, which we did, and they were such 2 big episodes… then we got 8 months to get used to the idea that 11 was not coming back (which is good, change is good!)… and then, when all the focused of the episode should be on Capaldi, here comes 11 again to convince Clara to help him?!

Really?! Moffat, are you having separation anxiety?! It surely fells like you are!

There was no need for it! She should have come to that conclusion alone. 12th’s speech should have been more than enough. Never on a first episode of a Doctor, should the previous one give the companion a call, never, ever, ever!

8. All’n All

55089Good enough episode, though I hope that the season brings a bit more. All that talk of age and perceptions kind of bored me, maybe because I was glad that this Doctor was older.

Curious to see where the season leads us, though I have to say, not very enthusiastic about the idea of “Missy” calling the Doctor her boyfriend, I really thought we were done with all that. The most popular theories are that she’s either The Master, The Rani or River – though let’s hope not River, if River Song ever returns, I want it to be as Alex Kingston.

Looking forward for next week and the return of the Daleks (and something tells me that the Cybermen will soon follow!).

Celebrity Crush (and Happy 40th Birthday): Misha Collins

Happy Birthday to the man who has the ability to crash the web whenever he feels like it! Misha Collins, our lord and savior!!!

tumblr_m3zmbnH2vV1qcr8tuo1_r2_500

This guy is amazing – dedicated to charity, handy (he builds things), funny, witty, and come on… the guy is as “angel”! He’s dedicated to his fans, so it isn’t surprising that his fans are super dedicated to him…

Just check his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge:

Kudos for this man, who, while everyone else was like “oh it’s cold!!”, managed to stay in icy water for at least as minute (that we see…)… Congratulations to the amazing Misha Collins!

MARVEL’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This is the best part of the summer: being able to catch up with the TV shows I put on hold during the year. So, I’m finally caught up on MARVEL’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

1500x1500

I love the show, love the references to all my favorite Marvel movies, such as “Thor is yummi”, or “did Romanoff beat it?”, but what I love the most is that the show is mainly about the agents and let me tell you: I missed Coulson!!! My favorite parts are definitely Coulson’s interactions with Maria Hill or Fury… because it’s so nice to see them being the “main” thing, showing that you don’t have to be a superhero to be super! And May… Jesus, I love Melinda May!!! And I’m I crazy, or there’s some potential there between her and Phil?!

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And please tell me that Coulson will be, somehow, in Avengers 2… maybe in the after-credits scene?! Maybe Steve or Tony finding out that he’s alive?! Pretty please!!!!

And what about Fitz-Simmons? I have to admit that on the first couple of episodes I had a little trouble understanding Fitz’s thick scottish accent, but they are both so adorable… so I hope that Fitz doesn’t has brain damage, and I do hope that Simmons realizes that he’s also more than her best friend.

Movie of the Week: Guardians of the Galaxy

Finally!!! Two weeks after it premiered all over the World, Guardians of the Galaxy finally came to Spain!!!! I can’t stress how much I suffered with anxiety because of the wait… but it was well worth it!

guardians-galaxy-walking

The movie is freaking amazing, easily one of my top 3 MARVEL movies… ever!!!! I’m still “Hooked on a Feeling” and planning to make a trip to the movies again this weekend to watch it a second time.

The teams is amazing and one can’t actually watch the movie without falling totally in love with Groot, or with crying Rocket, or with drunk Drax (who’s to fast and nothing goes over his head), or with Gamora, who doesn’t soccumb to “pelvic sorcery”, or with Quill, who may be a a-hole… but he’s not an 100% d**k… well, we could talk all day about Peter Quill.

groot-smile-gotg

Amazingly funny, the movie does it’s purpose well: to introduce the team! Which means that yeah, so the villains feel a bit flat, but hey, just like Drax puts it, Ronan was never important, Thanos is, and that is made perfectly clear. While Pace Lee was good as Ronan, The Accuser, albeit unrecognizable – did you see those abs?! – but I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with Karen Gillan as Nebula. True, I’m not familiar with the source material, but is Nebula supposed to sound like a spoiled little brat without any depth to her?! I don’t know if I had a problem with the actress or with the character… but I honestly feel that maybe Karen was not the best choice… =/

Full disclosure: I might have a problem… I spent a good part of the movie crying… those last 15 minutes totally killed me… damn…

R.I.P. Robin Williams

It’s a sad sad day… the World has truly lost a star!

Robin_Williams_1

A man with whom my generation grew up with… he was Peter Pan, the Genie, Mrs. Doubtfire… said “Good Morning, Vietnam”, was “O’Captain my Captain”, played Jumanji, was Patch Adams and Teddy Roosevelt and was even in The Birdcage… Rest in peace, Robin Williams…

Hooked on Sleepy Hollow!

More often than not, when a new 1 hour TV show premieres, I give it some time (sometimes the whole season) in order to see if it gets renewed – before I get attached to it and then it gets cancelled…

sleepyhollow_season2

So… I waited until 3 days ago to watch Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, can you believe it?! I can’t… because now I’m hooked and I ran out of episodes – and I’m already considering a rewatch, because there’s no way I’m gonna be able to hold it till september 22nd … I think I’ll risk saying that it’s my favorite “new” drama – granted that it’s the only “new one” I’ve watched so far… but I’m quite confident about it!

Season 2 will have between 15 to 18 episodes, and from Abbie’s mom to a lot more “Henry”, with a twist in the fist bump, it’ll be marvelous! Additionally, John Noble (Henry, a.k.a, Ichabod’s baby, a.k.a. War) and Lyndie Greenwood (Jenny Mills) were promoted to series regulars, joining Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane), Nichole Beharie (Abbie Mills), Orlando Jones (Capt. Irving) and Katia Winters (Katrina Crane). I don’t have any expectations because they did a wonderful job so far, but I would like to see that spark between Jenny and Irving flash again.

“Steven Moffat: I would do a Doctor Who/Sherlock crossover”… Say What?!

Everyone who’s a fan of Doctor Who and Sherlock has heard, read or wanted a crossover between the 2 shows for a while, and now, while promoting season 8 of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat, writer and producer of both shows, has ignited that fire stating that we would be willing to do it, as RADIOTIMES informs!

Steven_Moffat__I_would_do_a_Doctor_Who_Sherlock_crossover

“Look I’m going to come clean on this: I would,” said Moffat. “Go speak to Cumberbatch, Freeman, Gatiss and Vertue, OK? They’re all in the way. I’m not the killjoy, it’s that lot. It’s probably not going to happen.” Moffat sympathised with the load groans from the audience: “I know!” he squealed, “What a bunch of killjoys I work with.”

Despite his own enthusiasm for the project, Moffatt can understand why it might be a bad idea. “You know in some ways, I think Mark’s got a point when he says that however good you imagine [the crossover], it would be almost better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met. They’d just both go off in opposite corners and sulk that there was someone cleverer than them. [Imitating Sherlock/The Doctor] ‘No, I’m not going to do it, he can do it.'”

I love both shows! Two of my favorite shows ever, two of my favorite characters! But really Moffat?! You do understand the concepts of the two shows you run, right?! Because mixing the sci-fi, fantasy and the “impossible and fantastic” that is Doctor Who, with the racional drama that is Sherlock, would never, ever work! So, I only say: THANK GOD FOR THOSE “KILLJOYS”!

City of Glass: fav quote #5

Because there’s no one like Magnus Bane…

f09a9dba-d64c-48e3-ac51-f58b0173d2a1

“I don’t remember the Clave inviting you into the Glass City, Magnus Bane.”

“They didn’t,” Magnus said. “Your wards are down.”

“Really?” the Consul’s voice dripped sarcasm. “I hadn’t noticed.”

Magnus looked concerned. “That’s terrible. Someone should have told you.” He glanced at Luke. “Tell him the wards are down.”
