This week on TV

Sleepy Hollow: Is it OK not to like Katrina?

Castle: It was nice to see an Esposito episode, I have missed those.

Jane the Virgin: I’m pretty sure I’m team Rafael, Jane and Rafael just make the cutest couple. And also, Michael wasted no time at all to get the “waiting time” back…

2 Broke Girls: Is it just me or the writers are not very sure in which way to take the show? Last year it was the whole “pastry school” debacle and now Max doesn’t even has a name for her project?! HHHmmm… I’m pretty sure that if it wasn’t for Kat Dennings this wouldn’t even be worth it… Granted, Caroline is more tolerable this season.

Scorpion: Can Toby and Happy get together? Like, now?! I’m so happy that he was finally able to tell her how he feels.

State of Affairs: Why am I starting to think that the person sending those messages is Charlie’s former boyfriend?

The Flash: Eddie on pain meds is just hilarious, could we see more of him?! Pretty please? Also, was it just me or Caitlin and Barry shared some kind of moment (3 times)? Are they playing some kind of “Felicity” card here? Not that I mind, I would rather see him with Caitlin than with Iris anyway…

Supernatural: Am I the only one sad that Hannah is gone? I really liked her with Castiel and that kiss left room for a lot more (I’m not even going to talk about his face when she got naked in front of him…). Also, didn’t they just deliver the BEST WTF moment in a long long time with that final scene?!

Criminal Minds: So… Rossi has not only a daughter, but also a grandkid?! =D

Movie of the Week: Interstellar

WOW! I didn’t even noticed the 169 minutes go by. Interstellar is a well written, well acted and beautiful filmed movie. In a dying Earth, a team of explorers travel through a wormhole in an attempt to find a potentially habitable planet that will sustain humanity. Warning, there might be SPOILERS ahead (there are definitely some more towards the end).

interstellar_bannerIf you haven’t seen it yet, you should, it’s a movie to watch on the big screen and I’m sorry not to have seen it on IMAX. All the science explanations can be tricky, but they do explain rather well and timely, so it’s easy enough to follow.

I was a little worried about too much Matthew McConaughey – I’m really not a fan – but it didn’t bother me at all. Jessica Chastain is unbelievable (as always).

interstellar_5-5

They did an amazing job with the dying Earth, not only in terms of the “dying Earth” itself, but also the changes and believes of the people who live on it. When Murph’s teacher explains to her dad that she can’t have the child coming to school with those books about the Moon Landing when everyone knows that it didn’t happen, my heart gave out a little: as a scientist myself (though not in anything related to physics), is always hard to see science being put down on screen – even when it serves this huge purpose of telling a scientific story.

The planets are amazing and there are some rather “unexpected” twists in the story that make it all the more interesting. Anything that involves the Endurance is wonderfully made.  I’m in love with TARS (Bill Irwin) and CASE (Josh Stewart) – where can I get one of those? It’s fitting and a relief that they both make it 🙂 .

There are about 15 minutes towards the ending when I went like: WTF?! I don’t have any problem with the ending itself, just how it came to be, but well, nothing is perfect. I really liked it, and I’m still hoping that when I get to Portugal it’s still on screen, so I can watch it on a proper cinema =) (don’t even get me started on how the cinemas in Portugal are way better than those here in Barcelona!).

If you had some troubles understanding the timeline (because it’s confusing as hell), I found this online:

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) – Official Teaser Trailer

One year to go, but J.J. Abrams is hell bent on getting everyone excited and talking about the new Star Wars and my guess is that was more than accomplished. The first teaser trailer came out today and is very effective in its purpose: it’s a teaser! You finish it without knowing nothing new but pretty damn excited! =D

I really like that this actually feels and looks like a movie of the saga… the colors, the robots… oh… can’t wait for Dec 2015!

Taylor Swift: Blank Space

I was never a fan of Swift, but I’ll have to admit that her latest single is great, I’m completely obsessed about this music, Blank Space.

Nice to meet you, where you been?
I could show you incredible things
Magic, madness, heaven sin
Saw you there and I thought
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake
Love’s a game, want to play?
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain’t it funny, rumors, lie
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let’s be friends
I’m dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I can make the bad guys good for a weekend

So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game

‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way too far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
But I’ve got a blank space baby
And I’ll write your name

Cherry lips, crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You’re the king baby I’m your Queen
Find out what you want
Be that girl for a month
Wait the worst is yet to come, oh no
Screaming, crying, perfect storm
I can make all the tables turn
Rose gardens filled with thorns
Keep you second guessing like
“Oh my God, who is she?”
I get drunk on jealousy
But you’ll come back each time you leave
‘Cause darling I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream

So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game

‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way too far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane (Insane)
But I’ve got a blank space baby
And I’ll write your name

Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t say I didn’t warn ya
Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t say I didn’t warn ya

So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game

‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way too far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
But I’ve got a blank space baby
And I’ll write your name

Red Band Society (not so thankfull…)

Fox hasn’t ordered more episodes of its new drama, Red Band Society, which by itself is already not a very good sign… But they also pulled from schedule! Red Band Society will air until December 3rd, at which time it will be pulled and when the remaining 3 episodes will be aired it’s still unknown.

RED BAND SOCIETYThis doesn’t bode well from the show… another season seems unlike at this point =( .

Doctor Who Christmas Special

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas episode just got a title: Last Christmas.

last_christmas_dw

The special episode, starring Peter Capaldi, Jenna Louise Coleman and Nick Frost as Santa Claus, will have the Doctor and Clara trapped at an Arctic base with terrifying slimy-looking creatures.

The title of the DW episode just fueled even more the rumours of Coleman’s eminent departure, but would they really just lay it all in the title?! I’m torned, I’m liking Clara this season (though I still have the last 2 episodes to go), but I think the show is in dire need of some fresh blood, and if it’s a male companion, all the better.

#221back #Sherlock #notkidding

Sherlock is back on track! Well, at least they already have a script for the special Christmas 2015 episode and they had a table read today, according to BBC.

The boys apparently also posed for a photo with the attire they’ll be using for the Christmas special, though I’m not sure that’s entirely true… let’s admit that Benedict looks too much like himself in that photo and not at all like Sherlock! And Martin has the mustache back?! Hell no! =P I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but at least things are moving along!!! =D

Farewell Middle Earth… Billy Boyd: The Last Goodbye

Billy Boyd, who gave life to Pippin in The Lord of the Rings trilogy has just released a music, part of the soundtrack of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. It’s a gorgeous song by itself, but the music video is far beyond amazing, with shot from broth trilogies, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, as well as behind the cameras shots, it’s a proper goodbye to everyone who was a part of both projects… It’s worth watching (and if you hold back the tears, you have done better than me!!!).

I saw the light fade from the sky
On the wind I heard a sigh
As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers
I will say this last goodbye

Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea

Under cloud, beneath the stars
Over snow one winter’s morn
I turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell

Many places I have been
Many sorrows I have seen
But I don’t regret
Nor will I forget
All who took the road with me

Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea

To these memories I will hold
With your blessing I will go
To turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell

I bid you all a very fond farewell

Movie of the Week: The Hunger Games – Mockingjay pt1

The wait is over: The Hunger Games – Mockingjay part 1 has finally arrived. This is a movie very different from its two predecessors, Katniss is a shell of the young woman she once was, she’s a survivor suffering from PTSD, in a strange place and being expected to be much more than she’s able to at the moment.

hunger-games-3-mockingjay

I read the book, so I was expecting little action a lot of emotions and I got that, with a bit more action than I thought. This is about politics and the consequences of a rebellion and a war – countless loss, doubt and uncertainty. Katniss struggles at every step to make the right decision that will keep those she loves alive, knowing that she will probably fail someone along the way and not knowing how to live with it.

Granted, the “stillness” of this first movie will make a lot more sense a year from now, when the second part comes out, because the next movie is all about the repercussions of the actions of Katniss, President Coin and President Snow.

Mockingjay-Part-1-still-Katniss-Coin

It’s a marvelous adaptation, there’re very few differences from book to screen. The biggest one being the presence of Effie in District 13, but can we really complain about it? No, not really! In the book the prep team, Flavius, Venia and Octavia are at D13 and they are the ones who make Katniss camera ready. But visually it makes a lot more sense to have a heavy weight such as Elizabeth Banks (and fan favourite Effie) on screen. So out goes the prep team and in comes lovely Effie, in all her gray glory – she owns every single second she’s on screen.

Other “difference” is that given that the book is from Katniss POV, in the movie we get to see what’s going on in the other Districts as well as in the Capitol. Peeta’s deterioration throughout the movie (and Katniss’s along with his) are so well done, I found myself in tears each time Peeta was on screen…

Every single actor in the movie is brilliant – when you have a movie that has to work based on emotions shown rather than action, and with such a big cast, it could be tricky, but they hold up (Prim, maybe not so much). Jennifer Lawrence is amazing as always, the range of emotions that this girl is able to convey is tremendous. And how cool is the hair and makeup department on this movie?! They actually made them look bland, and made Katniss actually look 17!!!

The-Hunger-Games-Mockingjay-Part-1-Katniss-1-1024x614

Josh Hutcherson really surprised me in this movie… just wait for the last 10 minutes to get what I’m saying. Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch will always be my favourite, and did I catch a little flirting between Haymitch and Effie?! Maybe it would be a cool thing to change from the book… just saying…

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore are perfect in their roles as Plutarch and Coin, lovely touch to dedicate the movie to Hoffman.

Mockingjay-Part-1-Hoffman

I absolutely loved the filming crew. I loved them since the moment I read the book and Natalie Dormer just made Cressida come alive in a way only she could. But let’s not forget her 3 boys: Even Ross as Messalla, Elden Henson as Pollux that even though he doesn’t talk, he says a lot, and Wes Chatham as Castor.
