Doctor Who: BBC (finally) confirms Jenna Coleman’s exit

After more than a year of endless rumours, BBC has finally confirmed that Clara Oswald will be leaving the Time Lord during this 9th season, although the when, why and how are still in the air.

All I can say is: FINALLY! I really like Jenna Coleman, and I like Clara well enough – although not my favorite companion, I still liked her better than Amy – but it was about damn time for her to leave the show. Last season was way too focused on her and not enough on The Doctor, and I want to see Capaldi with a different kind of companion. Please, can they give us a male companion now?

It’s funny that you should mention a male companion. From what I heard, the internet is going to explode with anger if we get a male companion before we get a female Doctor. (according to nerdist) I think there always has to be some sort of female component in their mind, but I actually loved all episodes with Craig and Eleven, so I don’t think I’d be so harsh as to be against it altogether.

      see, I don’t get it!

First season ever of Doctor Who it was The Doctor, Susan and a male and female companions.

Second Doctor had one main companion throughout his whole tenure, and it was Jamie – A GUY!!!

I don’t see nothing wrong with having a male companion in the tardis for a while. while they can have the female component within the plots.

Other thing that bothers me is the Female Doctor thing. I’m a girl, I’m all for empowering women, women’s rights and all that, but I want to see powerful roles for Women! I don’t get this trend to revert the roles of established characters. Lara Croft can’t be a man, and no one would ever consider turning iconic female roles to male. Instead they create amazing new roles for men, why not do the same for women? I don’t want a female Doctor, heck, I don’t want a female Master…

I’m rambling, and I know that a lot of people want it and all, i just get tired of it.

Yes, yes, yes! I won’t be sad to see Clara leave. I would LOVE to see a male companion. (I read your conversation with Impossible Girl so I’m adding a bit…) I get the worry that a male companion would make the show too male-heavy. And with Moffat at the helm, I could see the show turning into a “cool girl of the week” mess. But there are so many directions they could go – male/female companions who aren’t married (like Rose and Jack!), a girl who plays the Mickey role, etc etc. Also, at some point I want an alien companion. They did that in Classic Who, didn’t they?

    • MyTinyObsessions says:

YES! They did at some point, several times I think. I haven’t watched all the classics, and I get that when they rebooted it, Rose was the voice of the audience, but I don’t feel like that’s the case anymore… so I want something new, different (I also want Moffatt out!)

You know what I want? A little old lady as his companion. Like Wilf, someone who dreamed of adventure but had just a normal life: husband, kids. She put aside her dreams for family. Now her kids are grown and her husband has died, and….she meets the Doctor! OH MY GOSH, I just thought of this two seconds ago and I want it so bad.

Oh my god yes a male companion! I really want one too. I haven’t entirely caught up on Doctor Who yet, but soooon. I don’t really mind Jenna leaving. I did like her more last season than during season 7, but I’m just not very attached to her.
