The Bookshelf Tag!

bookshelf

Hello, welcome to another book tag. It has been a while. Rogan @Signing On tagged for The Bookshelf Tag a while back, but I decided it was best done while at home, with my actual bookshelf. So, here we go! (Thank you so much Rogan.)

Describe your bookshelf and where you got it from…

Ikea! Isn’t Ikea the best? They are pretty standard, I bet that most people who got their shelves from Ikea, have the exact same ones…

Do you have any special or different way of organizing your books?

Not really. My series go together, obviously, and then it’s a matter of size and how they look next to each other.

What’s the thickest (most amount of pages) book on your shelf?

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo with 1231 pages and A Dance with Dragons, by George R.R. Martin, at 1181 pages.

bigbooks

What’s the thinnest (least amount of pages) book on your shelf?

Quidditch Through the Ages, with 56 pages, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with 42 pages, both by J.K. Rowling.

Is there a book you received as a birthday gift?

A Mãe Terra (The Land of Painted Caves) by Jean M. Auel and Vai Onde Te Leva o Coração (Follow Your Heart) by Susanna Tamaro, were both gifted to me by the same person, a year or 2 apart. I have to admit that I still haven’t read either.

What’s the smallest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. It’s so cute and small!

DSC04707

What’s the biggest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir are probably my biggest books.

DSC04712

Is there a book from a friend on your shelf?

Nop! 🙂

Most expensive book?

Probably any one of these. I know Human Osteology was a pain to get, and it was something around 100 €. Brock Biology of Microorganisms was also SUPER expensive, but totally worth it. The same can not be said for Developmental Biology… I don’t even know why I bought this book. By the way, how cute is my Genetics book (the white one)?

DSC04716

The last book you read on your shelf?

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas.

DSC04720

Of all the books on your shelf, which was the first you read?

Probably Os Lusíadas by Luis de Camões, which I read in highschool, and The Seven Daughters of Eve by Bryan Sykes, which I read when I was 15/16, and this was the book that made me realize that I wanted population genetics in my life.

Do you have more than one copy of a book?

little women

So many… Little Women, in the photo because they are both gorgeous. I have 2 sets of The Mortal Instruments. The Seven Daughters of Eve, a Portuguese edition and an English edition. same for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, most recently Landline.

Do you have the complete series of any book series?

Again… so many!

series

What’s the newest addition to your shelf?

My second copy of Landline by Rainbow Rowell, I bought it because I feel in love with the cover.

DSC04734

What book has been on your shelf FOREVER?

Let’s go with Os Lusíadas by Luis de Camões and The Seven Daughters of Eve by Bryan Sykes again.

What’s the most recently published book on your shelf?

Probably Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, which I’m currently reading. It came out September 1st.

DSC04738

The oldest book on your shelf (as in, the actual copy is old)?

Probably my old old copy of Os Lusíadas… I always remember having it, I think it belonged to my grandma or something.

A book you won?

I got a lot of book for birthdays and so on, but I never WON any book 😦 .

A book you’d hate to let out of your sight (aka a book you never let someone borrow)?

All of them! Isn’t that the correct answer? LOL.

Most beat up book?

The Shock of the Fall, I bought it already pretty beat up, Os Lusíadas, because I don’t even know where this book came from and A Clash of Kings, this book took me SO LONG to finish, and it was in my backpack every single day, so the poor baby is pretty beat up.

DSC04739

Most pristine book?

Os Maias by Eça de Queirós. I bought it a few months ago and it came directly to the shelf, no suitcases or anything, so it’s brand new. And how gorgeous is this cover, right?

DSC04743

A book from your childhood?

O Cavaleiro da Dinamarca and A Fada Oriana from Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen.

DSC04746

A book that’s not actually your book?

Probably this one… I think it belonged to my step-mom at some time, but it came to me when we moved out of her house…

DSC04750

A book with a special/different cover (e.g. leather bound, soft fuzzy cover etc.)?

One of my Little Women covers… you have to feel it to know what I mean… it’s gorgeous.

DSC04672

A book that is your favorite color?

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Ok, so this is not my totally favorite color, but it’s pretty high up.

DSC04748

Book that’s been on your shelf the longest that you STILL haven’t read?

This one is not the one that has been sitting there the longest, for sure, I only bought it in my Masters I think, but it’s pretty lame that I still haven’t read the whole of it, because it should be mandatory… The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin.

DSC04751

Any signed books?

NO! 😦 How sad is that?

That was it, uff… Now I’ll be tagging a few people, because I want to see your bookshelves!

😀 those are gorgeous. when I wanted to buy the book, I wanted one of those 2 covers. I spent more than a month trying to find them. Then I found the white one in london, and the following week I saw the other one in barcelona, and just couldn’t resist…

Snap – I have ikea bookshelves too. Two ceiling height white Billy bookcases 🙂 I love them. I am constantly rearranging them and doing charity clear outs!

I love your two copies of little women. They are both really pretty 🙂

Thanks so much for the tag, Cristina! This is going to be such a fun one. We’re definitely going to have the same answers for some of these, like for the thickest/thinnest books questions. And, oh my gosh, yes! Why must textbooks be so expensive? T.T
