Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:
Halloween themed freebie — your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)
I don’t do Halloween, like, at all. I don’t read scary books, I don’t watch scary movies, I don’t dress up or go out partying. I don’t do any of those things. So this week I decided to name 10 characters that I would totally do the Halloween thing for, or, people who are so cool that I would totally like to dress up as them.
1. Cath (Fangirl)
True, it wouldn’t be exactly hard to dress up as Cath, but it would be a blast. Cath is so relatable, that if I raid my closet I would probably have everything I needed to “be” her. (source)
2. Tessa Gray (The Infernal Devices)
Dressing up as any Shadowhunter would be great, but I have a soft spot for Tessa Gray’s clothes 😉 . (source)
3. Aelin Ashryver Galathynius (Throne of Glass Series)
Celaena’s clothes are all amazing, but I love her tunics and pants, and that dress from Queen of Shadows? With the Dragon? WOW!!! (source)
4. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter series)
Dressing up as a student from Hogwarts would already be pretty great, but Luna is just special. (source)
5. Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses)
Feyre is a bit kickass, I mean, she gets to wear some gorgeous clothes – though not dresses at first – and she has a bow and arrows, so she has a Katniss vibe going on as well… (source)
6. Dahlia Moss (The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss)
I read this book recently (and loved it) and Dahlia just wears the most ridiculous things sometimes… I mean, a jigglypuff hat?!
7. Shahrzad (The Wrath and the Dawn)
Shazi just has the most amazing set of clothes (and husband), so I would totally dress like her for one day… though I suspect that I would be thoroughly embarrassed by the amount of skin showing…
8. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Does this need an explanation? (source)
9. Eleanor (Eleanor & Park)
I love Eleanor’s style, she’s so unique, and I love her so much, that I would totally be her for one day (if her family didn’t come attached). (source)
10. Professor McGonagall (Harry Potter series)
I’ve mentioned before that I think McGonagall rocks, and I would totally dress up as her for Halloween 😀 .
I don’t know, I kind of like Halloween, but I am not good with scary stuff. I don’t read scary stories and I definitely don’t watch scary movies. I would never get over the creep factor ever again in my life. So, it doesn’t really make sense that I like the “holiday”. No one ever went trick or treating with me (had to go all alone in our apartment complex) and that’s about all my memories.
However, I guess I do like dressing up. It’s so much fun. And I really like your post! All the characters I know, are characters I love, so I totally get it.
I can’t even remember the last time I dressed up, but I’m guessing that I was pretty young.
I get that you love the dressing up part 😀 – I have 2 nieces who have “halloween” more than once a month!
But Halloween is a fairly recent thing in Portugal, when I was little we went to our neighbours houses on November 1st (not Oct 31) and asked for something because it’s all saints day, but we didn’t dress up
We always visit the cemetery on November 1 and pay respect to our deceased loved ones.
I remember very clearly when I dressed up the last time. The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who as the 11th Doctor. We went to a live screening in a nearby cinema and people really liked my outfit, even though it wasn’t nearly as thought-through as some of the others.
the photo on goodreads? that’s awesome!
I think dressing up is more fun with people that you can have fun with, and my friends are usually not that kind… I should start hanging out with my nieces on halloween…
Yep that’s the photo :)! I had my sonic screwdriver and a purse that looked like big blue envelope (kind of like the one he sends around the time of the Impossible Astronaut, just in a more metallic colour). Having fellow people to geek out with is important. Otherwise no one gets your references and it’s just no fun … I get the struggle, because I only have 1 or 2 people who appreciate my geekdom enthusiasm.
And I like the dressing up with a purpose, you know? I don’t get why most halloween costumes are labeled “sexy” and you just know you’ll get a massive cold if you wear one…
Oh yeah, I don’t get the sexy part either. Did I tell you that I am working on making my own Stele? It’s similar to Alec’s from the TV show. If I succeed, it’s pretty much settled that I’ll go as Shadowhunter. (just not as sexy Izzy-Shadowhunter, like a regular one hahaha) And I have to find a pen that want smuch my runes.
that’s awesome 😀
I want to see it when you’re done, ok?
If I somehow manage to actually make it, I will let you know 🙂
oh, you’ll make it 😀 because you really want to dress up as a shadowhunter 😉
I doooo! But right now it’s just sticks taped together hahaha I need my mum’s help after she gets back from work.
I’ll be waiting to see it 😉
I don’t do Halloween too but I kinda like of the spirit around it. For me Halloween time was all about go «trick or treating» (our type of trick or treating) and get a lot of candies when I was younger 😛 . But great choices. I would do Halloween too for most of these characters
yeah, i don’t remember having halloween when I was a kid. We went out on Nov 1st though…
I like the spirit too, I was just never into it, because no one around me was either, I guess
I went out on November 1st to. It was always a great day because I would spend all day asking for candies all over my village 😛 . I think the only year me and my friends actually tried something Halloween-y was when we were about 15 years-old and someone was throwing a party on my street
lol, i haven’t done it in years… when Halloween got to Portugal I was already too old for it
I haven’t done it in years too. I still ask money to my grandpa on Nov 1st but it’s only because I’m his only grandchild and I deserve it XD
that’s a very good reason!
I’m with you. I haven’t dressed up in YEARS. It’s just not my thing. I would much rather stay inside and watch TV, and maybe eat some candy. I love that drawing for Feyre. It’s so beautiful! I love what you decided to do for your topic. 🙂
staying in and watch TV is always a favorite of mine 😀
You should totally do Prof McGonagall! That would be EPIC!
maybe I should think about that for next year 😉
I love all your choices, but Dahlia Moss made me laugh. I loved that book too, and almost wanted my own jigglypuff hat after reading it.
I had to google it, lol! But she’s just so hilarious
these are fun! If you do ever dress up like Luna, you must use the radish earrings and the lion head hat lol My TTT
that would be quite a cosplay!
I don’t do all of the scary movies and books but I do go to pumpkin patches, carve pumpkins, and still trick or treating XD
the pumpkin thing just got to portugal a few years ago, with the americanization of everything 😉
Wow that’s so cool! I keep forgetting that everywhere celebrates holidays differently
yes, a few years ago we didn’t even celebrate halloween, just all saints day 😉
Wow! A lot can change in a few years 🙂
Aelin’s dress is divine, especially with platinum hair 😀 People would be showering you with candy, for sure. :p
I don’t do Halloween as well, though we love pushing our son to attend parties so we can have a supply of chocolate XD
that’s a good reason to do it 😀
I love Aelin’s dress. Have you read Queen of Shadows? the dress has a particular great scene
I’m currently stuck on Crown of Midnight! I know, I know…I’m so late into this game, but I’m going to do something about it soon XD
😉 take your time 🙂
I love Professor McGonagall! And dressing up as Feyre would be fun 😀 My TTT.
😀 it would
What a fantastic list! I’d want to dress up as all of these characters too! I think my favourite would have to be Tessa. I love the setting and the fashion of Victorian London and I think that would be super cool. And I totally agree with you about Celaena’s gold dragon dress!! That would be amazing! But I’d wear anything that she owns 🙂
I love Victorian London fashion as well, it’s just so elegant – the only downside is the fact that one would need help to get into a proper dress…
Hey, I was looking for Halloween dress up ideas 🙂 great post
😉
