Season’s Greadings Tag

season

Hi, I think this might be my last Christmas-y book tag because really? How many more can I do, right? This time I was tagged by Deanna @A Novel Glimpse, so thank you and you guys should definitely check out her blog.

THE RULES:

1. Tag the creator (Abbielu @Cafe Book Bean)
2. Have fun answering the questions.
3. Tag 5-10 people to join in the fun.
4. Thank and link back to those who tagged you.
5. DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE RULES! YOU DON’T NEED TO BE TAGGED TO PARTICIPATE.

1. FAVORITE BOOK(S) TO READ DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON?

Any book! I’m lucky if I even manage to have time to read. Lately the only couple of times that I was able to was between 2 and 7 a.m. and that is not healthy.

2. TELL US YOUR BEST CHRISTMAS MEMORY.

I don’t really know… I always liked Christmas because of the family aspect to it. Every year since my nephews were born have been good :).

3. FAVORITE FICTIONAL WINTER WONDERLAND?

I feel like I repeat myself a lot during these Christmas-y tags, that’s why this will be the last one… Hogsmeade.

4. SNOWMAN OR SNOW ANGEL?

I would settle for SNOW! Any kind of snow…

5. WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY MOVIE?

Hmmmm, I don’t know… Love Actually probably.

6. IF YOU COULD SPEND THE HOLIDAYS ANYWHERE (FICTION OR NON-FICTION,) WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

New York City… I would love to spend the holidays there, and I hope I get to, at least once in my life.

7. WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET UNDER THE MISTLETOE?

Hmmmm, Jem… or Rowan… or Thorne (that would be fun), or any other hot guy, I’m not very picky.

8. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOT HOLIDAY DRINK?

Is tea a holiday drink? Toffee Nut Latte or Eggnog Latte.

9. WHAT AUTHOR FROM ANY TIME WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A CUP WITH?

Oh, so many! I would love to have a cup with Sarah J. Maas though, because she seems hilarious.

10. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU HOPING SANTA WILL BRING YOU?

“Santa” brought me 5 books! And some other stuff….

Wandering About: Vienna (2010)

wandering about

On 2010 the third city we hit was Vienna, Austria, right after Budapest and Bratislava. The city is beautiful, but unfortunately it rained during the whole time we were there, so our days ended up consisting in bus tours and hitting several cafés. As I’ve mention to Kat @Life and Other Disasters – who lives there – I really need to get back.

We got there at night and it was the only day it didn’t rain (yupppiiii), so we ended up taking a carriage ride around the city… good thing too because on the very next day it was pouring.

Did I mention the cafés? We went to several famous ones, though the Cafe Central is the only one I have photos of.

12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

12days

Hello!!! Here we are for yet another Christmas-y book tag, this is because I don’t have much time these days, and tags are always fun and easy to go to… This time I was tagged by Joey @Thoughts and Afterthoughts, Deanna @A Novel Glimpse and Summer @XingSings, so thank you guys – and you should definitely check out their blogs.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: a partridge in a pear tree.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

This is a bit like choosing a favorite child, right? I’m going with Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, because I identify with Lincoln a lot and Rowell is a genious when it comes to writing.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: two turtle doves.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Just one?! Grrrrrr, I’ll say Penryn and Raffe from Penryn and the End of Days trilogy by Susan Ee, because I just wanted to bang their heads together and make them admit how they felt about each other, and also, because they’re the cutest.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Three French Hens.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

I used Penryn and the End of Days above, so here I’ll say The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. This one is SO GOOD!

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I’ll say an unfinished series here, and that is the Throne of Glass series. As much as I love Harry Potter, Throne of Glass is just so damn awesome!

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: five golden rings.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

I feel like I’m always repeating myself… Amarantha from A Court of Thorns and Roses is a pretty good villain.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: six geese a laying.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

I’m loving The Lunar Chronicles world building :D, it’s so cool and different, while at the same time familiar. Marissa Meyer did an amazing job with this series.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: seven swans a swimming.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Wow… I’m gonna cheat here and say Rowan from the Throne of Glass series. Rowan is my favorite everything and HE IS an animal… right? 😛

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: eight maids a milking.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh, has the most amazing descriptions of food… yummi!

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: nine ladies dancing.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Penryn, from Penryn and the End of Days trilogy by Susan Ee, hands down!

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: ten lords a leaping.

How about your favourite leading lad?

Simon from Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: eleven pipes piping.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis, not only is it one of my favorite books of the year, but music is a huge part of the plot.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 drummers drumming.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

HMMMMM, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas…

Eheh, I’m done! I tag EVERYONE who wants to do this one 😉 HAVE FUN!

The Joy of Christmas Book Tag

christmas_1

I wasn’t exactly tagged for this one, but I saw it at Kat @My Life and Other Disasters and Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, and it sounded like fun :D.

1.  Anticipation

The Christmas excitement is real, what book release(s) are you most anticipating?

I’m anticipating A LOT of books, way too many to list them all, but I’ll go with The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh, because that cliffhanger was brutal and I need to know that everyone will be fine… please, I need my Khalid and Shazi to be together and happy… pretty please?!

2. Christmas Songs & Carols

What book or author can you not help but sing its praises?

SO MANYYYYYY!!!! Ok, but Tahereh Mafi and Renée Ahdieh totally stole my heart in terms of beautiful writing. Then Marci Lyn Curtis and Nicola Yoon made me laugh out loud (and cry) throughout their books.

3. Gingerbread Houses

What book or series has wonderful world building?

I love the world building in the Throne of Glass series. I really like the balance between the fantastic and some more modern concepts.

4. A Christmas Carol

Favorite classic or one that you want to read

I’ve been meaning to read Little Women for over a year now. I even chased down two editions of the book that I love, and I own them both, one in each house – so I should have read it already – but I keep putting it off. I’ll read it in 2016 for sure.

5. Christmas Sweets

What book would you love to receive for Christmas

I feel like every single Christmas book tag has this question, right? I would love to get… (let’s change things a bit)… the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Why not? I asked for it last year but I didn’t get it =/ (and I won’t get it this year either…).

6. Candles in the Window

What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda (Becky Albertalli), it’s always Simon… Have you read it? It will give you all the warm fuzzy feelings in the world.

7. Christmas Trees & Decorations

What are some of your favorite book covers?

Oh my… SO MANY! I’ll just use books I’ve already read.

8. Christmas Joy

What are some of your favorite things about Christmas And/Or some of your favorite Christmas memories?

My favorite thing about Christmas is definitely spending time with all my family. It’s totally bonkers, because we are way too many, but no matter how stressful and tiring it is, it’s always worth it.

I’ll tag ANYONE who wants to do this tag, hurry up! Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! ❤

Merry Christmas!

merrychristmas

Quick post just to wish everybody a Merry Christmas!!! I’m heading to my dad’s family house in an hour or so, and tomorrow I’ll have a crazy day with my mom, brothers, nephews, etc, but I’m sure it will be happy times.

Happy Christmas!!!!

Book Traveling Thursdays: A Book Set During Christmas

btt

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “It’s Christmas Eve!! Choose a book that occurs in Christmas/Holiday season“.  I’m picking Landline by Rainbow Rowell this week, that is set during Christmas time :D. And it’s Rainbow Rowell, so that’s awesome!

Original COver:

This is the original US cover, I like it, I used to own it, but it is not my favorite. The yellow phone is just iconic.

COVER FROM MY COUNTRY (PORTUGAL) & COVER FROM THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN (SPAIN):

No portuguese cover yet again, but I do have a spanish one :D, and I really like it, the blue version is my favorite.

Favorite COVER(s):

These 2 UK editions are my favorites. I like the blue one better, it’s just gorgeous, but I have the pink one and I love it as well.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

There are a few different covers for this book, but my least favorites are the new USA cover, I don’t know why, but it doesn’t do it for me; the German edition, it’s not bad, but not really good; and finally the French, just because it has real people in the the cover… no no…

Christmas Song Book Tag

christmas

Hello people! Two days until Christmas!!!! So, it’s time for another book tag, this time Becca @Shih Tzu Book Reviews tagged me for the Christmas Song Book Tag.

“You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch”

Name a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.

I want to say someone in Red Queen, but that would be the motherload of spoilery, so I’m settling with Warner from the Shatter Me series :D.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You”

Which book do you most hope to find under your Christmas

Oh, so many! I’ll say one I’m sure will be under the Christmas tree (because I put it there) and I’m pretty excited about it, and that’s Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”

Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.

I’m going with Madeline from Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. She overcomes something truly major and she learns some very important stuff in that process.

“Santa Claus is Coming To Town”

A character at the top of the naughty list/ a character at the top of the nice list.

On top of my nice list will go Cress from Cress by Marissa Meyer, because let’s face it: Cress is the cutest character ever!

Celaena/Aelin from the Throne of Glass series goes to the top of my naughty list, because of everything she unashamedly and amazingly does throughout the 5 books that are out.

“Frosty The Snowman”

A book which just melts your heart.

I’ll step away from my usual answers and say Whatever It Takes by L.E. Bross, because this book totally melted my heart. Ryan and Tess are pretty amazing and their story is beyond cute and heart melting.

“Feliz Navidad”

A book that takes place somewhere other than your home country.

Ehehe, all books take place somewhere else besides my country :D. Your Voice Is All I Hear by Leah Scheier is set in the USA. 🙂

“It’s The Most Wonderful Time of Year”

Which holiday themed book do you use to spread Christmas joy?

I don’t really have a themed book I use to spread Christmas joy, so I’ll just use a book that is set during Christmas season, and that is Landline by Rainbow Rowell.

“Sleigh Ride”

Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with? (Doesn’t have to be a love interest.)

I would like to spend it with Asher from The Girl’s Got Secrets (Forbidden Men #7) by Linda Kage. First of all, the guy is just awesome, and second, he would really appreciate all the “normal” family stuff because he’s never had it before and he so deserved it.

“Baby It’s Cold Outside”

Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to keep yourself warm?

This question is a bit of a sacrilege, because no book ever should ever be burned… BUT The Rock Star’s Secret Baby by Zara Keane (if I had it in physical form, which I don’t!). I gave this book ZERO stars, so yeah…

“Do You Hear What I Hear?”

Which book do you think everyone should read?

I feel like a broken record here, but please read Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. It’s so damn great!!!

There, done! I tag EVERYONE!!! If you haven’t done this one yet, hurry and do it!

The Girl’s Got Secrets (Linda Kage)

girlsgotsecrets

Here’s the same old “girl posing as a boy” story but with a rock-n-roll twist.

Remy Curran dreams of one day being in a band, except the group she wants to join refuses to hire a girl drummer. So, she auditions as a guy…and makes the cut.

Becoming “Sticks,” a member of Non-Castrato, isn’t quite what she dreamed it would be, though. She spends most of her time keeping up the subterfuge and learning how to walk, talk, act, and drink like a man.

But what’s even harder to deal with is acting oblivious when the band’s heartthrob lead singer, Asher Hart, treats her like one of the guys and not a woman. She never imagined he’d be so much more than a pretty face with a nice voice. But he’s better than perfect. He’s perfect for her.

When love and lies combine, Remy must keep up the act or lose everything. But who knew lying to reach one dream could prevent you from attaining an even bigger dream?

Ohhh, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started this book, but I loved it. The story is much more complex than I originally thought and the characters are so damn great and funny.

I did like the writing, but I found the amount of spanish terms in Remy’s chapters a little bit distracting, though I totally got them and found that it made a lot of sense. Also, because I actually speak spanish, I didn’t lost the meaning of any of it.

I loved the characters, LOVED THEM. First of, and one thing that majorly sets this book apart from other NA romances I’ve read recently, is how neither of the main characters are looking for a fling. Asher is looking for the real deal, while Remy just doesn’t actually knows that she’s even ready to start looking. The buildup and the development of their friendship was super awesome, and I did like how comfortable Asher was with the male version of Remy. Whether it was small moments like the guys playing Call of Duty, os Asher sharing some stuff of his life, it was pretty obvious how perfect they were for each other.

I also really liked all of the other characters of the Forbidden Night Club, and now I want to get my hands on the 6 other books from the series, because their stories seemed so interesting.

My only small problem with this book was how some parts dragged on a bit, but nothing majorly. And I did appreciate the epilogue ;). I would highly recommend this book, the relationships are great and the dialogue and situations are funny as hell. Also, Asher is just the cutest thing ever.
