After doing the girl-guy and guy-guy version of bookish friendships, it was time to highlight some good girls BFFs in books. While trying to find some great friendships, I came to the conclusion that good girls BFFs are rarer to find in books than guys BFFs. Have you noticed that? Girls tend to start a book as best friends, but more often than not, something happens to change that status… it’s weird, and I fell sad about that. Either way, here are some good ones.
1. Cinder & Iko – The Lunar Chronicles
Am I cheating here because Iko is an android? Hmmm, I don’t think so! She’s very much a human in all that matters, and she and Cinder are awesome together.

2. Shazi & Despina – The Wrath & The Dawn
These two biker like hell, but ultimately they trust each other and have each other’s backs.
3. Sky & Six – Hopeless
Even while apart, Sky and Six went out of their way to stay close. I love how non-judgmental their relationship is, and that’s why they’re one of my favorites BFFs ever!
4. Aelin & Lysandra – Queen of Shadows
One of the best things introduced in QoS was the amazing friendship between these two strong fierce warriors. I can’t wait for book 5 :D.

5. Lizzie & Charlotte – The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet
I loved them on the show, I loved them even more on the book. They’re kind of perfect 😀 – and way better than the original friendship in Jane Austen’s book.
6. Beth & Jennifer – Attachments
Their emails are hilarious. There isn’t a single doubt that these two ladies are BFFs!
7. Cath & Reagan – Fangirl
This friendship took a while to develop, but ultimately the two very different roommates gave in and entered an unlike beautiful friendship.

I admit that I’m a bit depressed after writing this post. I need to read more books about awesome girls BFFs, without the drama of the book butting in said friendship… recommendations?!
I LOVE IKO. So much. Also, Cath and Reagan are a couple of my faves as well 🙂
Iko is the best ❤
You did very well in this post. It’s amazing how after all that brainstorming you were actually able to get 7 pairs of BFFs because as you said girls friendships are rare for some weird reason. And Iko counts. No one cares if she is an android. She’s still Cinder best friend
Ultimately I decided to leave Bella and Alice behind though, lol. And YES, Iko is absolutely the best :D. We need to start reading some books with awesome friendships in them
Vampire Academy has a great female to female relationship. Also YES to the QOS girl pair, Aelin and Lysandra were awesome
I haven’t read Vampire Academy yet :).
This is great! I actually love Lysandra and Aelin’s friendship- I’m surprised how much I like it cos their relationship is so complicated!
it is complicated, but damn awesome. I think it’s a far better one that the friendship she had with Nehemia, because neither was honest then
yeah exactly- it was powerful to use her death to push her into action though- I liked her just enough to care when she died, but not enough to be as distraught as if she’d killed a character I really loved
yep, same
Beth and Jennifer always make my list of great book friendships! I also really liked the group of friends in The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord. It’s been awhile since I read it and I don’t remember all their names, but there’s a group of 4 girls and while there are some disagreements, they’re a solid friendship, even though there was a lot of room for things to turn into heavy girl drama.
I might check that one out :). the girl drama is too much for me at times =/, guys end up having easier friendships in the books
I love Sky & Six! I would also add all of the girls from Wallbanger. 🙂
oh yeah, the girls in wallbanger are amazing :D, I should have included them for sure.
There needs to be more genuine friendships written, I don’t know why authors don’t do things like that. It’s so disappointing. I made The Wrath and the Dawn by TBR jar book for next month because of you (which is totally cheating btw)
I sort of get the girl drama in YA books, because like it or not, teen girls are big on drama. But I do wish there were more books about awesome female friendships. And YES! I hope you love it 😀
Yes! Both things exist in real life there are girls you have drama with and girls who are your ride or die best friends of all time. There needs to be more of that
i agree
YAAAS to this! We need more books that feature strong female friendships. It is much needed! I absolutely adored the friendship between Aelin and Lysandra, definitely one of the best things that happened.
we do need more books with strong female friendships… =/. and I hope that Aelin and Lysandra’s bond keeps getting bigger 😀
I absolutely adore Cinder and Iko!!! I really wish we can see more female friendships in YA as well 😦 Another one of my favs would be Lia and Pauline from The Kiss of Deception!
I have that book on my TBR :D, good to know that there’s a girl-girl bond there 😀
YEEESSS!! Fireheart & Ghostleopard. The dynamic duo. But everyone one this list is pretty damn awesome 😀
they are freaking amazing, those two! 😀
I really liked the friendships between the girls in Not If I See You First. Really realistic and not sugarcoated but touching all the same. You’re right though, it’s shame it’s so hard to think of any.
Not if I see you first in on my TBR ;), I need to read it!
You’re so right about this: in a lot of books, girls start the story as best friends, but it rarely stays that way, it’s so sad! I really need to read some of the books on your list 😉
right? in YA contemporary something always happen between the girls :(, new adult is a bit better on that regard, friendships usually don’t come with problems
YAS! I recommended two of those *pats herself on shoulder*
THANK YOU FOR THAT!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Always 😀
I love Reagan and Cath! They’re the only couple I actually know about XD
eheh
I did to work on that XD
Cinder and Iko and Reagan and Cath are definitely my favourites, though I love that Sarah introduced Lysandra again to make her Aelin’s friend 😀
😀
