Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…
That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.
Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
I had read Finding Cinderella (Hopeless #2.5) last year, and since then I wanted to know Holder and Sky’s story, because they seemed pretty adorable. Then everyone was recommending me Hopeless all the time, Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much was throwing hints and making me desperate to read it – so not fair :P. So when I found it for free on amazon a month or 2 back, I got it, and decided that the month of love – and then Feb 14th – was the perfect time for it. While reading I realized that maybe my choice of reading day was not the best…
I had two emotional states while reading this book, the first part was cute and funny and my heart was soaring, and then the second part came, and it’s gut wrenching and heartbreaking.

Yeah Sky, I know the feeling…
Colleen Hoover’s got me! Her writing is seriously magical. I was in love with both Sky and Holder from the very beginning and I just wanted them to be happy :D.
The beginning of their relationship is seriously the greatest thing ever, while being super intense and sometimes uncomfortable. I loved it.
I loved all characters, Breckin and Six are awesome by the way, and I was just wishing to see a bit of Daniel, but hey, I guess I’ll have to read Losing Hope for that.

Gotta love Six!
Then their relationship progresses and it’s great, and then the heartbreak begins. I knew this book was going to screw with my head. Heck, I went as far as guess every single plot twist and small thing that this book was going to throw at me – poor Cátia listened to all my rantings on Twitter and never once let me know just how right I was… – and still, it didn’t matter. Each time the thing that I had guessed would happen, happened, it still hit me full force and left be so damn broken.
This book deals with so much pain. So much… I was crying and my heart was breaking, and I was so happy at the same time, because of how much love there was in it. Seriously, Sky and Holder are #goals. I loved how this book talks about how not everything is black and white… you can love and hate the same person, no one is 100% bad, and that’s OK, you have to be OK with that, no matter how much easier it would be to not feel anything remotely good towards some kind of monsters.
I loved the ending. I love Holder and Sky. I want to know more. I want to read Losing Hope because Holder might just be one of the best protagonists ever, and I need to be heartbroken over his POV…
And can we agree that he says the most beautiful and appropriate things?
I mean, dude, seriously?! *swoon*
These quotes were AMAZING! The one about the word between like and love was spectacular.
have you read this book? it’s so good. and it’s highly quotable :D. I love that one too
I’m actually going to order it now, the quotes alone sold me on this. The writing was smooth as fork, perfect flow and pacing!
you should! it’s really good
See, my hints worked, you read it XD . Next time you read a book I want you to read can you stop guessing everything?? The same happened with Everything, Everything. Not fair 😀
Also, Holder is so perfect. He’s amazing and a great boyfriend 🙂
it’s not my fault that my brain keeps getting to the right conclusions prior to me actually getting there :P. next time I’ll try not to think. for instance, I won’t try to guess anything in forbidden, though I have a feeling that the guy dies, not sure why I would think that…
I’m not telling anything about Forbidden
you haven’t told me anything about the others either :P, I still got there. lol.
I gave you plenty of hints about what happened to Sky
you did :P, prior to the book mostly. 😀 it was worth all the heartbreak though. and I’m pretty sure that forbidden will be worth it too
You think Hopeless is heartbreaking??? Just wait until you read Forbidden
Cátia, don’t say that… because that makes me scared of the black book. lol.
Okay, I’ll stop 😛
i almost picked it up the other day. then I thought that I needed some more happy stories after hopeless….
You need. Keep reading happy stories
that’s what I thought 😛
I definitely feel like I need to read this book, but I am not sure I am ever going to be emotionally ready for it.
you won’t. I’m still not. there are things that I knew were coming, but reading the… wow… never ready for that!
Well, one day … some day … I shall read it.
one day SOON you’ll read it :P. it’s the kind of YA/NA story that actually has a good amazing story. super worth it
I believe you, but I have SO many actually physically present books here already. I will there 6 in my room, 4 still on it’s way and I need to order 2 (Lady Midnight and Firewalker). I think I can’t buy anything for a little while.
buy it when you get your kindle :P, it’s super cheap for kindle 😀
Okay, I can definitely do that!
😉 i got it for 0$, and now it’s something like 2$, so… =P
That’s a real bargain!
yep. most of my kindle books were under 3$ 😀
also, wow! so many books :D. are you reading lady midnight as soon as it is out?
I want to … I am even considering buying it as a hardcover
But everything in the right order. Morning Star first, then probably Glass Sword. I would like to read the eArc we both have together with you soon as well. Then I have my Splintered trilogy and the Shannara Chronicles as well.
the arc is for may, so you don’t have to worry about it too much. is glass sword there already?
Nope, but if Morning Star came today, that means Glass Sword will come on Monday. They were sent one day apart from each othre.
ok 😀 I don’t want to be spoiled for Glass Sword =/ I need to get my copy soonish
Well, don’t read my review then hahaha I am trying to make my Goodreads comments as non-spoilerish as possible.
LOL 😛 good luck with that 😀
hey, my Goodreads comments are barely if ever spoilers. I’d like to think of them as teasers.
they are like teasers 😀 and funny!
Good, then I am doing my “job” right 😀
😀
Now I AM the one who cannot wait to read this ! You people are driving me crazy
😉
Great review! I loved this book. So heart wrenching!
it was! 😦 i loved holder and sky ❤
I can’t wait to read this one! I only read Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover so far and I loved it 😀
i need to read that one 😀
I can’t wait for you to read Losing Hope. I actually liked that one a lot more than Hopeless. Holder’s POV just killed me from the start. Plus, the back story is so twisted. More tears to come!
i can bet. I’m dying to read it. Holder is amazing, and I’m guessing than on his POV the whole book will be heartbreaking
I was dying though out majority of that book. THE TEARS! Holder’s relationship with his sister was what broke my heart.
oh my, we get to see that… i need to prepare emotionally for that book
