Movie of the Week: Spotlight

movie_2

When Spotlight took home the Oscar for Best Picture last Sunday I was a bit surprised, mostly because I hadn’t even heard of this movie, but because I wanted to know what the hell it was about, I loaded the trailer and was soon checking if it was screening in any of the 3 VOSE cinemas in the city. Yesterday I was finally able to go and watch it, and I’m so damn glad I did.

The trailer is pretty straightforward about what goes on during this movie – given that it’s based in real life events and all. But mostly it’s the journey of the Spotlight team while they uncover the facts and expose a pedophilia scandal inside the church.

The subject itself is abhorrent, but what they uncover will make you feel very uncomfortable. The shear size and numbers of the scandal is mind blowing.

About the movie itself, it’s just amazing. It doesn’t have action or anything like that, what it does have is heart and amazing acting. Mark Ruffalo blew me away (as always), and so did Stanley Tucci and Liev Schreiber.

It’s a movie worth watching, but more than that, it’s information worth knowing, because then maybe we can actually see…

The movie has been on my radar even before the Oscars, because of my obsession for Stanley Tucci. I am glad you enjoyed the experience, even if it was an uncomfortable one. I will definitely watch it at some point as well!
