Top Ten Tuesday: Characters Everyone Loves But I Don’t

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Ten Characters Everyone Loves But I Just Don’t Get or Ten Characters I LOVE But Others Seem To Dislike

I’m doing characters that I don’t like as much as other people seem to ;).

1. Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter)

I honestly don’t get this one. Sure, the kid is highly influenced by his family and stuff, but I don’t see any redeeming qualities in him… sorry.

2. Professor Snape (Harry Potter)

This one is tricky, because I DO like Snape, I just don’t LOVE him. I don’t think that what he did deserves that much love, to be honest… he wasn’t a nice person. He was a guy who did what he did because he loved someone. If Harry was anyone else’s son, he would have died in the first year.

3. Scarlet Benoit (The Lunar Chronicles)

Again, it’s not that I don’t like Scarlet, I just don’t get overly excited about her… except in Winter, she kicked ass in Winter.

4. Nehemia Ytger (Throne of Glass)

I never felt strongly for her… NEVER! Not even in that moment in Crown of Midnight. I appreciated that she had a responsibility and that she tried to do good by her people and by Celaena, but I thought her methods were wrong.

5. John Ambrose McClaren (P.S.: I Still Love You)

I kind of get why people have some trouble with Peter, but I had a lot of problem with John!! Why was he freaking even there? As good as he might have been to Lara Jean, she belonged with Peter and John should have stayed the hell away.

6. Aristotle (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe)

Ari annoyed me so much at times. He was a good character, but I honestly couldn’t deal with him at some points, and I think this is why I didn’t enjoy the book as much as some people did.

7. Maia Roberts (The Mortal Instruments)

By the last book I found her quite nice and tolerable, but for most of the time I just dreaded her POVs. Also, her whole think with Jordan? Sad and I didn’t like it… I liked him.

8. Penny (Girl Online)

To be totally honest, Penny was not the only one I had problems with during this book, I had a huge problem with the book itself. Still, Penny irritated me to no end when she thought her best friend was the one responsible for the scandal, without even giving him the benefit of the doubt.

9. Lola Nolan (Lola and the Boy Next Door)

Again, it’s not that I don’t like Lola, because I do, she’s funny and sweet. But I had a lot of problems with her during the book, especially until the last third or so. She had a weird temper, and she wanted to be a grown up, without having any idea what it meant.

10. Jacob Black (Twilight)

This one should come as no surprise. Jacob NO! No no no!

What a great list! I had trouble liking Draco at all, he just was annoying and I couldn’t try to understand him; And YES, I’ve seen many Peters in today’s TTT, but I’m with you: John was the one who annoyed me the most. He was cute and everything, but, WHY WAS HE EVEN THERE?

  2. Janey says:

Accurate! Especially Penny, Lola, and Jacob. I was rooting for Edward until I saw the movies. Then I just wanted both of them to die 😀 😀

  3. Lois says:

I agree with so many of your choices. Out of the three, Lola is the weakest link. I just couldn’t find any connection to her at all. Same with Scarlet, I liked her in Winter but I just wasn’t as invested in her story and relationship with Wolf as I was with the others.
Ugh Jacob. I don’ t understand the appeal at all.

  4. Tasya says:

I think the main reason I don’t really like Maia is just because she was just there? She doesn’t really have any purpose for the story…

This is great- a lot of these I’m with you on. I didn’t hate Lola either, but I didn’t connect with her at all and like you said found her immature. I also didn’t like Jacob Black. I wasn’t crazy about Maia or Scarlet either

  6. Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks says:

Oh, I totally lost my shit when the thing happened with Jordan. 😦 I liked him, and I totally lost any ounce of respect I had for Maia after that.
I love Draco, although I know a lot of people still have problems with him. He was a brat, but his behavior towards the end of Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows completely changed my perspective on him. Though I do respect your opinion, totally. 😛
And I agree about Snape. He’s a great character- just not a very good human being.

    • My Tiny Obsessions says:

the whole Maia and Jordan thing at the end didn’t sit well with me, at all. I do get that about Draco, and I think he was a good character, but I just can’t find him redeemable, no matter how those books made me sympathize with him a bit.

  7. Nicole.Ilene says:

I haven’t read many of the books, but totally agree with Jacob. I actually put Draco on the like side of my post, but I think it was because he was just one of those characters that seemed interesting. I never really thought about the redeeming qualities part to be honest. Great list! 🙂
