This book turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I was not expecting to like it as much as I did. With that said, read this book, because it’s awesome!
First let’s take some misconceptions out of the way. Based on the cover, title and even the blurb, you might be thinking that this book is heavily based on a love triangle, right? WRONG! Undecided refers to what Nora is majoring in in school, and the 2 boys are her roommate and his BFF, and although the book sometimes hints at some interference, it’s very far from a triangle.
This book is told is the first person POV of Nora, and while I’m a super huge fan of multiple POVs, this story worked the best just like this. I loved the writing, it was fun and full of humour.
The characters were pretty great, hilarious, and somewhat unexpected. Nora has some problems trying to balance out her life, but it was so fun to read about her relationships, work, family, etc. Crosbie was a huge surprise, because he works so hard at everything in his life, and the way he is with Nora is seriously heart melting. Kellan was a delight to read about, because he was so boyish, cute and a total asshole, all at the same time.
The book is heavily based on the romance, and just to clarify, this romance is between Nora and Crosbie, a.k.a., the roommate’s best-friend!!!! But apart from this, there are a few side plots that are so good, such as all the “drama” between Nora’s 2 co-workers and friends, and the friendship between Crosbie and Kellan, which by the way, is totally goals. Another thing that I really loved was the bond that Kellan and Nora strike, they become real friends to each other and that was just super sweet.
Although there is some drama, it is not overdone at all. There are a couple of conflicts that come between Nora and Crosbie (one big one), but it’s resolved with maturity. I really liked the flow of this plot.
There were a couple of things that I thought needed some revision. The first one is the age of all the characters in this book. It states several times that they’re all 21 years old, but they’re also all on their second year of college. Well, they should be 19 or 20 then, and not turning 21, right? Another thing were a couple of conversations that Nora had with Kellan, where she would tell him something, and then it was like he didn’t hold that information, so I felt like there was a slight continuity problem there.
In the end I loved this book. It’s one of the best NA books I’ve read, and I would so love to read a story about Kellan, and to see if his second year of college brought him some wisdom at all… lol.
