That Thing Between Eli & Gwen (J.J. McAvoy)

Eli Davenport thinks he’s found the perfect woman to be his wife. She’s a doctor, like he is. She’s brilliant, like he is. And she’s wealthy, like he is.

Guinevere ‘Gwen’ Poe thinks her fiancé is the perfect man. He’s handsome, successful and he was her first…

But when Eli’s bride runs off with Gwen’s fiancée on his wedding day, they are left to pick up the broken pieces of each other…

Once again, I read this book with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, as yet another buddy read. So, check out her blog in the next few days for her take on this book.

I have to say that I loved this book from the beginning. The premise on itself is hilarious, and the writing just makes the experience more funny. I love the back and forth between Eli and Gwen’s POV, I thought they went along perfectly.

I really liked Eli and Gwen as characters, they were complex and unapologetic about who they were, and that’s kind of amazing. I think that their different takes on life, personalities and professions, were a perfect complement to each other. I loved how their relationship developed, very slowly, and how they went from 2 people with an understanding, to friends and only then to something more.

Contrary to their previous relationships, theirs is full of understanding and honesty and trust. The way that they share everything with one another is amazing and heartwarming and just plain great. The involvement of each family and Taigi was awesome, and I’m (not so) secretly hoping that Logan, Eli’s brother, gets his own book, because he’s as amazing as his older brother.

I will admit that I wasn’t a huge fan of the conflict that issued towards the end of the book, but I did like Eli’s reaction to it. The only reason this book doesn’t get the whole 5 stars is because I felt that the ending was a bit abrupt. I would have liked to see it a bit more developed.
