I’ve had this eARC in my Kindle for ages, and finally decided to tackle it and wow! It was way better than I expected. I really liked the writing! And I love the formatting, from the chapter numbers, to the inspirational quotes at the beginning of them, the book is appealing.
This book is told from the POV of 18 yo Candy, who is finally able to go and live with her father again, after 6 years of having to endure living with family that she didn’t want and that didn’t want her. I loved Candy! I wasn’t sure how I would feel about her in the beginning, because she’s a vindictive b****h, but oh god, she’s funny and she has so many layers. I really liked to see all the different sides of her, whether she was at home, with her dad, or when she was player her little power game at school, she was smart, and I felt for this girl who only wanted to be wanted and her dad’s approval… Also, I was so happy that Candy had to deal with an autoimmune disease, we don’t see that enough on books.
I really liked Jonah, and I’m so freaking curious! I loved how their relationship developed, yeah yeah, it was a bit insta something, but they actually got to know each other pretty well before something happened, and I really appreciated that, especially since they were both clearly not ready for something when they met.
Candy’s dad is a mystery wrapped in an enigma! I like him! I mean, he clearly loves his daughter and wants what’s best for her, but there’s something not right in his story – or in what Candy assumes is his story.
But be warned, this book ends in a major cliffhanger! NOTHING is solved in this book… NOTHING! You know what this means? That I need to get my hands on book 2 very soon, because I need to know what happens to all these people!
