I’m used to going for the easy things in life.
The easy A in school.
The easy lay in bed. The easy life my trust fund affords me.
Until I met Shelby.
Never in my life have I found retro T-shirts and ChapStick so damn sexy.
She’s exactly what I never knew I wanted.
And she’s *anything* but easy.
But suddenly, easy is overrated.
Only one damn problem… For Shelby, *hating me* is easy.
For the first time in my life, I have to work for something. And though she may not be easy…she’ll be worth it.
Again, I read this book with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, and finally, finally, this one worked out! We were getting tired of bad books… I mean, what was wrong with our choices lately? Check out her review of this book here.
Finally! I liked this writing a lot. The story is told in dual POV, from Tate and Shelby’s point of views, and on the first person, and this worked like a charm for me. The author made the book easy to read and fast paced, without it seeming overly fast or anything like that. It was actually kind of perfect.
But more than the writing, I really liked the characters. Unlike Cátia, I liked Shelby from the start. Yep, she’s a bit judgmental at first, but she kind of has reasons for thinking the way she does, and she does give people a chance. I really liked the way her trauma was handled, and that despite everything, she was an amazing and strong woman.
I loved Tate! He kind of reminded me of Garrett from The Deal, and you guys know how much I love that boy. He was a rich and spoiled guy, but he was much more than that, and that was evident right from the start. I really loved how he reacted to everything “weird” that Shelby did, and how he helped her to overcome her issues, studying for a class or leaning to get along with the only family she had left.
Their romance was great, despite being a bit instalove, they did get to know each other pretty well, and their relationship developed slowly. Also, holy hell, was it hot! The chemistry was definitly there, and it was awesome!
Like Cátia, I really liked Harrison and the fact that despite him being Shelby’s BFF, there was never ever anything romantic in their storyline. I also really liked Reagan, and I think there’s a lot still there to explore, especially because it is hinted that she suffered from an eating disorder, and I think that Harrison feels something something for her. 😉
I just had a couple of problems with the plot, because I thought that the conflicts could have been kind of avoided or handled a bit differently, but I did really enjoy the book and I would highly recommend it.
