Movie of the Week: Suicide Squad

So… I finally went to see Suicide Squad, because I was curious, and because the people I’m with right now, sis + brother in law + friend + nephew, really wanted to see it as well. Well guys… neither of us actually liked it. It was such a disappointing movie.

I felt like this one had such a huge potential, but it was totally wasted away. While some characters were great – ahem, Harley Quinn – most were underwhelming, and their inclusion in the story was not totally well rounded. For instance, maybe I’m alone in this, but I really didn’t like Jared Leto’s Joker. Such a huge deal was done in regards to his casting, but for me it was just a big no.

I liked some of the other characters, but ultimately they lacked something. Will Smith did mostly an amazing job, but some of his dialogue felt disconnected, and lacked something. In fact, most of my problems were with the dialogue and conversations… the timing was off and they felt so weird.

The story was just a bit nonsense to me, and the Enchantress ended up having a role I wasn’t expecting and that I didn’t like. I had a few “WTF?!” moments during this movie. Way too many. The transitions were also off. To be honest, there was very little I actually liked, and I’m not sure if I’m getting too picky, or if these movies are just sucking big time.

Did you see Suicide Squad? What did you think of this movie?

The movies are just sucking… big time. Don’t worry Cristina! You’re not alone when it comes to disliking Jared Leto’s Joker. There was something ridiculous about his portrayal, and for me it was too choppy because he keeps on twisting his neck a lot before he says the continuation of his sentence. That’s just my obversation. I also think that yes, they nailed Harley Quinn. But I do have a soft spot for Will Smith, El Diablo, Amanda Waller, and sometimes Captain Boomerang because when it comes to character portrayal they do it justice, but as you said still lacks some parts.

Also, I am ridiculously hating the editing for this movie. And I don’t often use the word “hate”. 😂

I saw this movie the first day it played in my country, and I did reviewed it saying it was a decent movie! But until now, I still thinking the dissapointing aspects of it so I’ll post a rant sometime next week. I know a lot of people hate Jared’s Joker, but I don’t think it was his fault? They cut a lot of his scenes and left only the romantic scene between him and Harley. It makes his Joker weak, I mean the last Joker blew things up and killed Batman’s lovers, and this Joker.. all he does is try to save his girlfriend? I wish to see more maniac side of him. I also hate how weak the villains is.. Theirs motive weren’t clear and they do nothing?? I have a lot of complaints about this movie, but I still think it was a decent one 😀

I thought the Joker was more ridiculous than weak, per se. he was doing nothing there… i don’t know. the movie didn’t excite me at all, and i was there at the end of 2 hours of movie thinking “Harley is cool, and the soundtrack is killing it” and that was it 😦

I wanted to see this movie! Mostly for Harley Quinn (I even started reading the comics!), but hear so many negative reviews on it. I trust Rotten Tomatoes and they rated it 29%! Its always the overhyped movies that are often disappointing, I mean just look at City of Bones. Nice review!
