Some boys break your heart. Others teach you how to heal it.
Chloe Stone’s life is a hot mess. Determined to stop being so freaking skittish, she packs up her quasi-famous best friend and heads to Florida. The goal? Complete the summer bucket list to end all bucket lists. The problem? Her hot soon-to-be stepbrother, Landon Jacobs.
Landon’s mom will throttle him if he even looks at his future stepsister the wrong way. Problem is, Chloe is everything he didn’t know he wanted, and that’s…inconvenient. Watching her tear it up on a karaoke stage, stand up to his asshole friend, and rock her first string bikini destroys his sanity.
But there’s more than their future family on the line. Landon is hiding something — something he knows will change how she feels about him — and she’s hiding something from him, too. And when the secrets come out, there’s a good chance neither will look at the other the same way again…
Hey guys! This was yet another book I read with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, as a buddy read, and you can check out her take on this book here.
Finally! Finally!!! I absolutely loved this one. Lately ARCs have been hit or miss, majorly, so I was so happy that this book made me laugh and swoon and tear up a bit, and not want to throw my phone to the wall. This book was so cute!!!!
I loved the writing style :D, it was my favorite kind! Dual POV with first person narration!!! Also, the writing is light and fun, even when dealing with serious subjects. Another detail that I thought was super smart and well done, was how the chapters were numbered. Because Landon suffer from dyscalculia, his chapters are numbered differently. Cool, right?!
I loved how typical (yet atypical) the two main characters were. Chloe was a regular shy girl, who was gorgeous and hot, but because she wasn’t that outgoing, she didn’t get asked out or hadn’t dated at all. The great thing about her was how strong she was. Chloe went through something really bad, but she was strong enough to move forward, and to talk to the right people and learn how to trust again. I loved how she took Jenna’s list in stride and slowly came out of her shell without losing herself. Serious question: where can I get myself a Landon? Because that dude was seriously awesome! I loved that he wasn’t just a jock, but that he had all this depth to him. Perfect! I really liked how his learning disability was integral to the plot, and it showed how it can affect everything in someone’s life.
At first I was a bit worried about Jenna, Chloe’s BFF, because she was so out there, but she managed to be the best friend that Chloe needed all along, and she also managed to have a very sibling-like relationship with Landon, which was super cool. I now what to know more about her.
The romance was pretty great, even though their feelings for one another started out super fast, they still felt genuine, and I really liked how slowly their romance evolved, especially because Chloe needed for things to move slowly, and Landon understood and more than respected that.
Apart from their romance, the family aspect to this book was super relevant too. Chloe and Landon both deal with a new family dynamic, and I appreciated how organic those relationships felt.
Overall, I really really loved this teen romance, and I couldn’t recommend it enough!
