Stone (Max Monroe)

First, hate. Then, want. But in the end? Heartbreak.

My celebrity life was supposed to be easy, and this movie was the biggest break of my career. But from the moment Officer Levi Fox gave me a speeding ticket on my way into town, he’s been nothing but a thorn in my side.

Dominant. Cocky. Callous.
Midnight blue eyes, a bad attitude, and muscles for days, he’s exactly the kind of man I should avoid.

But as the Cold, Montana Police Department’s official movie liaison, he’s taken up a permanent place in my life that I can’t shake.

We fight. A lot.
Then, we kiss — and my carefully crafted hate toward him no longer feels so much like hate.

I’m falling
falling
falling.
But how often do alpha-jerks cushion the landing?

Note: Levi and Ivy’s story will continue in Book Two—Cold.

I haven’t read that many books by Max Monroe, but this one felt different from all books I’ve ever read. I really really enjoyed it. I couldn’t get enough of it, and I wanted to have Cold and Fox in my hands, so I could see how Ivy and Levi’s story will end, though I’m sure the journey will be wild, crazy and spectacular.

The writing is strong, and engaging, and the character’s voices are so unique. I was reading my book, completely absorbed, and my work friend was behind me, and she read a few passages from the book a few times, and she commented on the language, so I said “yeah, this is the guy’s POV”, and she immediately said “so before you were reading the girl’s POV, right? Because it was different!”. YES YES YES, all the YESES! If someone not even reading the book in full can see right away the differences in the narration, you KNOW that the authors were able to give completely different voices to their characters.

I love both main characters. Ivy is such a strong woman, vulnerable at times, but such a strong person. I love that she breaks so many Hollywood stereotypes that we see in books sometimes. She loves and gets along great with her family, she has so much integrity, her main concern is to do Grace justice, and I love her for all of this. Levi is such an intense guy, and I’m so curious to know more about him, I felt like we get to know him bit by bit, but there’s so much still to uncover, and I can’t wait.

The plot, so far, definitly has me curious and wondering for what comes next. Unfortunately we’ll only get the complete picture of the plot and story once the full trilogy is out, but this one peaked my interest, and I need more. The chemistry between Ivy and Levi is off the charts, and I loved every single time they interacted, and I need to know what comes next.

So, guys, amazing amazing amazing start for this series, and I can’t wait for what’s to come 😀 .

Virgin Territory (Lia Riley)

Practice Makes Perfect

Patrick “Patch” Donnelly has what it takes to be the best goalie in the NHL…if only he could learn to control his temper. When Coach orders him to get his head in the game with private yoga classes, Patch isn’t having it. There’s no way this tough Boston guy would be caught dead downward dog-ing his way to inner peace. But if he refuses, he risks his starting position and the dream he sacrificed everything for, including joining the priesthood.

Yoga instructor Margot Kowalski is over men. After yet another toxic relationship, she’s eager to forget love and focus on growing her business. Doing the Hellions head coach a favor by helping out a troubled player can’t hurt, and it might give her career a high-profile boost. But free-spirited Margot is soon charming the pants off Patch. Literally. Her sassy combination of sweet and sexy proves irresistible to the goalie. Before Patch can give into temptation though, he’ll have to confess his biggest secret:

He’s a virgin.

But Patch is hiding more than sexual inexperience, and his dark past soon threatens to destroy his shot at true love.

So… I’m not sure what I was expecting, but definitely something different, and to be honest, better. A lot of bloggers I know and respect were raving about this author, that’s why I went to Edelweiss and requested the book. Unfortunately this one didn’t match my expectations.

The writing was good, but it was definitely a bit too rash. Everything seemed like it was on contant fast forward, including the writing.

The story had potential. It’s rare to read books where the hero is less experienced than the girl, so I was excited for this plot, but there was a major flaw right from the start: everything happened way way too fast.

We go from a guy who had never kissed anyone, to someone who was more than willing to jump into bed with someone he just met?! Also, he didn’t like to be touched, he wanted everything to have meaning, and he had only just met Margot. Look, I understand feeling chemistry and feeling attraction, and following what you desire, but but but… it was at warp speed! Also, he went from having no knowledge on the matter, to being a freaking expert.

My second issue was with Margot, and the fact that she either was super positive about her sexuality, or she was feeling insecure and down, and letting herself be slut shamed. I hated this, I hated all the negative talk  about her sexual relationships, and the amount of sexual partners she had in the past. I get that a lot of people have issues with this subject, but I wasn’t a fan of how it was handled.

Like I said before, the story had potential, and the romance as well, but I just felt like something was severely lacking. Everything happened too fast, and way too easily. I wasn’t a fan of the plotline with Margot’s ex either.

To be honest, this book was overall underwhelming. I know I’ll read other books by this author again, because I have it on good authority that she’s amazing, but this book just didn’t do it for me.

Secrets of a Summer Night (Lisa Kleypas)

Four young ladies at the side of the ballroom make a pact to help each other find husbands . . . no matter what it takes

Proud and beautiful Annabelle Peyton could have her pick of suitors — if only she had a dowry. Her family is on the brink of disaster, and the only way Annabelle can save them is to marry a wealthy man. Unfortunately her most persistent admirer is the brash Simon Hunt, a handsome and ambitious entrepreneur who wants her as his mistress.

Annabelle is determined to resist Simon’s wicked propositions, but she can’t deny her attraction to the boldly seductive rogue, any more than he can resist the challenge she presents. As they try to outmaneuver each other, they find themselves surrendering to a love more powerful than they could have ever imagined. But fate may have other plans — and it will take all of Annabelle’s courage to face a peril that could destroy everything she holds dear.

You know I’ve been blogging somewhere else, right? So, Nick and Lisa, my co-bloggers at Romances Ever After, “made me” read historical romances. My first one was The Duchess Deal, by Tessa Dare, and I freaking loved it. So much, that it was one of my favorite books of the year.

I decided to listen to the audiobook for this one, because it’s third person, and I’ve come to realise that I do better on audio if the book is on third person. And somehow, historical romance goes well with audio.

The writing is amazing, and I thought it was better, the further along I was in the book. It was funny, and so interesting.

And the story, OMG, I need more of these historical romances. The plot was amazing! Kind of enemies to lovers romance, but with so much heart! I loved this story so much. First of all, I loved the friendship between the wallflowers, the group got along super well, and they complemented each other perfectly. Then, the connection between Simon Hunt and Annabelle Peyton is amazeballs. The romance grew slowly but surely, and I really liked how her views of him and the world they both lived in change throughout their relationship. It was quite a shift in her views, and it showed how much she had grown throughout the book. It was super well done. I loved Simon to be honest, how he wasn’t bothered by conventions, and was always true to himself.

The story kind of made me tear up at the end, but I was so happy with the ending. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second audiobook 😀 .

So, guys, have you read this one yet? Have you read any other historical romances you want to recommend me?

Blog Tour: Two Wedding Crashers (Meghan Quinn)

Review:

I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem — but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?

That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.

It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.

Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.

One thing is guaranteed when picking up a Meghan Quinn book: we’re in for a good and funny time. Her writing just has something to it, that makes be belly laugh in each and every book. This one wasn’t an exception. To be honest, I liked this one better than the first book on the series, Three Blind Dates.

I never expected to like Beck as much as I did in this book. He was the only one from the first book that I wasn’t that sure about, and I can’t believe that Meghan Quinn completely changed my mind about him. His story didn’t quite surprise me, and that’s a good thing, but his way of thinking, feeling and the way he lived his life, stole my heart.

Rylee was so messed up, but I loved this girl. She was scared, but she goes through such a character growth within the book, and I loved to read about it. She’s fierce, and I loved how her mind worked, and all her dirty thoughts

The chemistry between Beck and Rylee was off the charts, and I was surprised it took them so long to actually act on it, but I loved the slow burn, even if the implied chemistry, connection and romance was there from the start.

The plot was amazing, I loved the involvement of the family and friends too. I could definitely read more about them, and the life they created together. It was that good.

So, people, if you haven’t started this series yet, do, now. If you haven’t read anything by Meghan Quinn, what are you doing with your life?!

Excerpt:

Chills scream their way down my arms and legs, my nipples pucker, and just like that, with one word, all humor vanishes from our little conversation and awareness of this all-consuming man wrapped around me hits me hard.

Gathering myself, I say, “Tell me something Chris and Justine know about you.”

“Hmm.” His thumbs hook under the waistband of my shorts, playing with the lower part of my hipbones. His touch spurs on my pelvis, needing to rock, begging for him to go lower. My toes curl in my sandals and my back slightly arches, reaching for more. “Something they know about me.”

His mouth doesn’t stray from its position against my ear, and his hips start to slowly move underneath me, his legs tangling with mine. Involuntarily, one of my hands hooks the back of his neck as I hold on tightly to him, feeling like I need support from the onslaught of sensation I’m feeling.

I hear him say something, but it doesn’t register in my brain, which has turned to mush as his thumbs stray from my hipbones to right above my pubic bone.

There is no denying how turned on I am, how wet I am from his mere touch, how much — despite my reservations — I want this man.

With each stroke, my head turns farther and farther to the side until our noses are touching, Beck’s head bends forward to meet me halfway. My eyes flutter shut for a brief moment before I open them and am captured by those flecks of green and gold.

The air stills around us, our breath mixing, swirling between us, our lips so close.

One swipe of this thumb.

Another one.

I can’t breathe.

I can’t focus.

Another swipe, my head leans even closer, my tongue wetting my lips.

One more swipe . . .

My heart hammers in my chest, my skin prickling with awareness.

Beck brings his mouth even closer, only a whisper away now, and he waits.

Holding still.

His breathing feeling erratic beneath me.

One.

More.

Swipe.

And I’m gone.

I bring my mouth to his, slowly parting my lips ever so slightly, just enough to maneuver my mouth across his.

A low, provocative moan escapes Beck as one of his hands snags the back of my head and holds me in place, almost as if he lets go, I’ll disappear.

Needing more, I shift on his lap so I’m straddling him once again, my hands on his bare chest, feeling the powerful sinew that holds him together.

Our lips press and mold, mingling, taking, begging . . .

Desperate.

Beck’s tongue runs against my bottom lip, eliciting a moan from deep within me, lighting a fire so hot, so wild, my hands start to travel up his neck to his cheeks where I grip him, positioning his head so when I open my mouth, I can expertly dive my tongue onto his.

He groans, his lap shifting against mine now, his hard-on pressing against my wet and throbbing center. I match his rocking, using my position on his lap to take advantage of his length I can feel through his board shorts.

This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen, but God, am I happy it has. Maybe I really should live in the moment, maybe I should take advantage of the opportunity, maybe I should…
