CALLIE

I have a secret. It’ll get me fired if my boss ever finds out…which shouldn’t be a problem except for one thing: my coworker, Reid Morgan. He’s cocky, aggravating, and that hot-as-sin mouth simultaneously makes me want to slap him and melt into the mattress. Now that he’s discovered my secret, he’s doing everything in his power to take my job.

REID

I have a problem: my pint-size spitfire of a coworker who’s primed to take my promotion. She’s infuriating, sexy as hell, and I just can’t seem to keep my hands off her. Now we’re both vying for the same position…and only one of us can come out on top.

Guys… I’m not sure what to say about this one, except that I’m a bit disappointed with this book. I’ve loved all Jennifer Blackwood’s books so far, and I never read anything by  R.C. Boldt, but somehow this collaboration just didn’t do it for me.

The writing was okay, though it did feel a bit repetitive to me. The characters were… bland? I don’t know guys, I just didn’t feel it at all. I wanted to strangle both Reid and Callie. They were getting on my nerves 99% of the time. I get that he felt like he deserved her job, but still, they hardly communicated, and were either super hot or super cold, or acting like 12 year olds. Just no! They just felt so immature. And I also felt like there was hardly any character growth throughout the story.

And then we have the plot. I think the plot had promise, and I love a good hate to love story, enemies to lovers and all that. But this felt a bit forced, and I couldn’t get the connection between Reid and Callie. Also, most of their issues felt a bit nonsensical to me, and I hated that there was no real conversation between them.

They did have their cute moments, and there were some funny moments in the book as well, and that’s why I cannot give it lower than 3 stars, but the book didn’t feel well structured to me, the characters were not well developed, and the romance was definitely lacking something.

Overall, this one just didn’t quite work for me, but I’m still looking forward to Jennifer Blackwood’s future books. 🙂
