I’m Back and how I failed spectacularly at the Tackle my TBR Read-a-Thon!

tackletbr

Hello people, I’m back from Portugal. After a crazy crazy week at home, I finally arrived to Barcelona yesterday morning (and at my house roughly 2h30m later… I have public transportation sometimes).

It was a SUPER CRAZY WEEK!! I’ll resume it for you, just because… I got there Friday night…

» Saturday I had a full day celebration at a friend’s house, to celebrate her birthday and PhD. After a day of eating and playing games, I finally got home at around 1 a.m.

» Sunday my brother picked me up at 9.30 a.m to go to the supermarket, then we went to his new house, looked around a bit, he showed me his 65′ and 55′ new TVs and played some PES, and then we had family lunch at our grandmother’s. After that, me, him and his wife went to a shopping mall, where he then left us and we went to IKEA next. We left IKEA completely drained at 10 p.m. and went to have a soup at another shopping mall… isn’t it great that things are open until 11p.m.?! After I had a freakout moment because I saw Throne of Glass in Portuguese, I went home.

– By now I’d been home for 2 whole days and had seen my dad a great amount of 1 hr on the day I arrived! –

» Monday I decided to sleep in a little… that was until my sister called me (and woke me up), to announce that she and her husband were arriving at Lisbon and if I wanted to have lunch with them. My answer was yes (because you never say no to dining out with your siblings, right?). SEAFOOD!!!! 😀 My bro and sis-in-law joined us as well, and then we (again) went to my brother’s new house. It was time to start washing the linens and stuff, and I spent the day assembling the kitchen diner table and the chairs… bless IKEA. On a bright note, I managed to get away and have diner with my dad 😉

» Tuesday I was able to stay at home a bit. I had to work on some stuff for my advisor, so that worked out well. And after 2 days of being stuck in the same page of Queen of Shadows, I was able to move up a few chapters (not many though). My BFF then went to get me and we made our usual route to some starbucks, a few shops, diner and a movie. 😀 (and then staying talking until past 2a.m. – I’m in serious need of some sleep).

» My plan for Wednesday was to relax all day and read, nothing more. I almost managed doing just that… But my sis called to let me know she would be picking me up soon… I said no, she said yes, she won! So, again, bro’s home – it’s a really nice house – we had a snack, we went to my grandmother’s, then to see a friend, then back to his house, we had diner at 11 p.m. and me and my sister-in-law’s sister stayed until 2a.m. playing Dance Central on the X-Box, while the men were upstairs with their PES.

» Thursday was a good day! I made progress on Queen of Shadows! I read and watched a bit of TV, relaxed, managed to actually read some blog posts that I had been accumulating, and then me and my BFF went to have coffee with a friend of ours that we hadn’t seen in awhile.

– Are you tired yet? –

» Friday I went (guess…), yeah, bro’s house. They went to deliver furniture, mainly the couch and dining table  – very important – then we had lunch, me and sis went to starbucks, pharmacy, grandmother’s house. Then we had a family diner. My nephew arrived from the south of Portugal. After diner we all went to my brother’s house. Me and my BFF finally left past 1a.m. and I was super tired by then.

» Saturday (it’s almost over), I had a lunch with my family from my dad’s side. It’s always great to see my aunts 😀 ! By late afternoon I went shopping with my nephew and that was awesome, I had missed the kid. Then it was time to pack and sleep, because having a plane to catch at 6.45 a.m. is no joke.

My Grandmother/aunt’s house is full of these little treasures… Damn it, I was so cute when I was little…

Now, for the actual #TackleTBR Warp-Up, I didn’t do any good in this Read-a-Thon… not good at all.

WHAT MY GOALS WERE:

  • Finish my September TBR, which means reading Queen of Shadows (doing a buddy read – check the GR group 😀 ), An Infinite Number Of Parallel Universes  and  Finding Perfect. (Because I’ll finish The Assassin’s Blade today)

  • Read at least 2 other ARCs – which ones will depend on my mood;
  • Participate in 5 challenges;
  • Find some new exciting blogs to follow.

WHAT I actually managed:

  • I read nothing more, unless you count some form of fanfiction which I’m now apparently addicted to.

  • I hardly had time to check on the blogs that I already follow, least of all find new ones… it was a busy week.

Real Neat Blog Award #2

Welcome back to another blog award post (August Edition) – I really want to get through these posts during this month, while I still have free reign at work 😉 . This time I have to thank to two amazing bloggers: Nicole @NymphadoraWinterfell and Anjie @Love Thy Shelf, thank you so much for nominating me girls 😀 !!! This is my second Real Neat Blog Award, you can check out the first one HERE.

realneatblogaward

Real Neat Blog AwardTHE RULES:

1. Thank and link the blogger who nominated you.
2. Answer the 7 questions the nomination has provided.
3. Nominate 7 other bloggers.
4. Create 7 questions for your nominees.

Nicole’s questions

1. What book would you recommend for others?

It really depends on who the others are, for instance, to my best friend, I would recommend something like The Perfect Match by Katie Fforde. Even though I didn’t like the book that much (review here), I know that this is right up her alley.

I could for the life of me recommend her the greatness that is The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, Fangirl, Throne of Glass, etc…, but she wouldn’t like it (I doubt that she would even try it).

2. What made you start blogging?

I’ll redirect that question to here. There’s the story.

3. Do you have an inspirational person that has inspired you? Who?

Not really… I really look up to my older brother, but I wouldn’t say that he inspired me. There are people I look up to work-wise, but they’re not really inspirational either…

4. If you were to eat the same thing for a month, what would you eat?

Hmmmmm, full mediterranean salad (with feta or fresh mozzarella cheese). Is this weird?

5. Where do you purchase your books from?

Two main places: Amazon.es and Come In, a specialized English Bookstore in Barcelona.

6. Apart from books, do you have other interests and what are they?

SO MANY!!! I love TV Shows, Movies, I love to cook, bake, knit, sew… honestly, I would have been a damn good old-style housewives, as long as I didn’t have to clean or actually have children.

7. What is your all time favourite tv show?

This is a hard one. TV Shows preferences varyie highly on a lot of things. Sherlock, Doctor Who, Gilmore Girls, Charmed, Marvel’s Daredevil, …, are amongst my favorites ever. But the one thing that I was obsessed through many years and that I still watch and makes me feel at home, is Sailor Moon. Yeah, I know that’s an anime, but either way it’s awesome and I’m picking it.

Anjie’s Questions

1. What was your favorite read in July?

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

2. Which book release are you anticipating the most?

Is this a Sarah J. Maas directed question? That would have to be Queen of Shadows!!

3. Other than reading, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Answer above!

4. What’s your favorite TV show?

Answer above as well 😉 !

5. Which book character do you relate to the most?

Something between Cath from Fangirl and Lincoln from Attachments. That’s why I fell that Rainbow Rowell really gets me 😛 !

6. Pick your book boyfriend … just one! (No cheating like having a fantasy boyfriend and a contemporary boyfriend haha)

Just one? Wow, you’re mean! So it would have to be Jem Carstairs. I don’t even have a good explanation for it other than “he’s awesome”. It’s not the music or anything, it’s just that he’s so sweet and passionate and kind and gorgeous and …let’s not even mention that he can rip apart a corset with his bare hands… (After the Bridge made me see him in a whole new light).

7. Are you currently crushing on anyone (not a book character)? Tell me about them. (Sorry I’m in a lovey-dovey mood!)

Like real life people in my real life? Not actors or anything?

Gosh, this is sad… but no! Wow, I haven’t had a crush in ages, I think the last time I had a real crush on a man (that was in my life) was 5 years ago.

Jesus, that’s depressing! And it’s not because of high standards or anything, it just hasn’t happened in a while. 😦 WOW, now I’m a bit depressed! There are no crushable men in my life!

Nominations:

You know the drill, feel free to ignore if you’ve already done it or if you simply are not in the mood… it’s totally fine 😀

My Questions:

I’m gonna recycle my question from the other time I did this award 😀

  1. Where would you rather spend a vacation? Beach? Mountain? City? Why?
  2. If you got stranded in a desert island, which 3 items would you like to have with you?
  3. What’s your biggest celebrity crush? Why?
  4. Coke or Pepsi? Or “what are you talking about, there’s no difference”?
  5. Favorite time of the year? Why?
  6. Name a music that reminds you of your childhood?
  7. You can only pick ONE book to read (forever), what would it be?

Creative Blogger Award #2

Hello people!!! As you might know (or not), I have done this award before – you can read it here – but given that I was nominated multiple times again, I decided to to a second edition. This time the lovely bloggers Summer @Xingsings, Lia @BookLand and Kira @FieittyReads nominated me and I’m super touched, all of them run amazing blogs that you should definitely check out.

THE RULES

The Creative Blogger Award

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Share 5 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15-20 bloggers and add their links
  • Notify the bloggers you included
  • Keep the rules in your post to make it easy for everyone to know what to do!

5 Random Facts about me (more live facts… very up to date)

  • I procrastinate… a LOT, this month in general has been terrible… I know I have a lot of work, but the more I think about it, the more I don’t want to do it… it’s bad 😦

  • I hate living with people. Not even kidding! Roommates that aren’t your friends are the worst. I live with 2 guys and a girl that I’ve never seen, but man, one of those guys is messy and always puts things the wrong way in the kitchen and it drives me mad!

  • I look just like my dad! The only physical think I inherited from my mom is the curly hair (the crying at all movies and the same predisposition for diseases – it sucks!). I could have her blue eyes, but nop!!!

  • I have a degree in Biology (microbiology and genetics) and a Masters in Human Evolution. I’m currently in my last year of my PhD in Biodiversity and Anthropology. Working in Academia and doing research was always my dream!

  • My favorite movie when I was little was Gone With the Wind. I remember it was so large, that it was usually divided into 2 screenings on sequencial days, and it would generally air after midnight. So I, with 9 years old, would go into the living room, curl up in a blanket and stay until 3 a.m. watching it, a lot – it aired a lot when I was younger, now not so much. I haven’t seen it in ages, but that movie always made me fell good! I was not a normal child, I had watched Gone With the Wind more times than I could count, and it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I finally saw The Sound of Music!

Nominations (let’s go for 5)

If you’ve done this, like it’s probable, or you simply don’t want to do it, feel totally free to ignore this 😉
