Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “Share the love around the world! Choose a book written by an author from a country you don’t read that often“. I’m going with Amie Kaufman, who is from Australia, and I’ve only read Illuminae by her, but I want to read the Starbound series, so I’m going to use These Broken Stars here.

I love the original cover, it’s what drew me to this series in the first place.

I hate the Portuguese cover, I just really hate it, and it’s everywhere too. I like that the Spanish cover mantained the original design.

Hi guys! If you don’t know yet, I’m a huge fan of Sailor Moon, so when I saw this tag at Rayna @ReaderRayna‘s blog, I just had to do it! This tag was created by Kristin @Super Space Chick, Alexa @Alexa Loves Books, Cee @The Novel Hermit, Cristina @Girl in the Pages, and Sierra @SDavReads.

Moon: A book that makes you hungry

                      

The reasons for Simon Snow wanting to go back to school were mostly FOOD! So, how can one read Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and not think of food and being hungry?

Mercury: A book that features science and technology

                       

I love Ami and Sailor Mercury 😀 – look at her! Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff takes place in space, and has several elements of science and technology.

Venus: A book that makes you want to play video games

                         

I think the only logical answer for this question is Ernest Cline, and because I’ve only read Armada so far, I’m saying that. I really liked this book 😉 .

Mars: A book inspired by mythology or folklore

                

Rei Hino was for a long time my favorite Sailor Scout. I loved how she would give shit to Usagi, eheh. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is a retelling of Hades and Persephone, so it has some elements of mythology.

Jupiter: A book that gave you strong feelings

                     

Then Makoto Kino (a.k.a. Sailor Jupiter) got there, and she stole my heart. I mean, this girl cooks and kicks ass? What’s not to love about her? Back to the question… Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma gave me SUPER STRONG FEELINGS! So much so, that I haven’t been able to write its review yet…

Saturn: A post apocalyptic book you love

                   

I’m not a huge fan of post apocalyptic books, but I absolutely loved Angelfall by Susan Ee, and I highly recommend this trilogy to everyone. The story is great, but the characters are absolutely amazing!

Pluto: A time travel book

                     

Sailor Pluto… eheh, should we talk about her massive crush on King Endymion?! The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig is much more than a time travel book, but it works for this question perfectly 😉 .

Uranus: A book featuring elemental magic

                     

Sailor Uranus, or Haruka Tenoh, was always one of my favorite characters in this show. I loved her sass, and her confidence, and I loved (and still do) her relationship with Michiru. So it’s only fitting to use Heir of Fire for this question, where 2 of my favorite book characters EVER have elemental powers.

Neptune: A book featuring music

                     

Oh Michiru ❤ ! Loud is How I Love You by Mercy Brown features a LOT of music, given that the main character and her love interest are part of a band, and they write together too.

Tuxedo Mask: A book with masquerades or hidden identities

                     

I’m so glad that in the new anime Mamoru revealed his identity as Tuxedo Mask to Usagi way earlier in the game, because come on… it was so obvious! In The Girl’s Got Secrets by Linda Kage, the main character pretends to be a boy to be able to get the gig as a band’s drummer. Things get tricky when she falls in love with her frontman.

Rini/Chibi Moon: A favorite middle grade book

                     

I haven’t read a lot of middle grade, so I’m going with the most obvious answer of all, and say Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling.

Luna, Artemis & Diana: A book for animal lovers

                     

How cute are Luna, Artemis and Diana? Either way, Wallbanger by Alice Clayton has the most amazing cat ever in books :D.

Book Traveling Thursdays: A World I Would Like To Live In

This week’s theme is “Because world building matters… Choose a book in which world you would like to live“. Because I’ve used most of the books I’ve read with worlds I would like to live in, I’m gonna say Illuminae, because even though the thought of space scares me a bit, I do love the setup of this world.

Original and Favorite COver:

This is the US hardcover, and it is one of the most gorgeous covers that I own, because the dust jacket is semitransparent and it lets us see the writing beneath, and it’s just amazing.

Illuminae came out here in Portugal on the 1st of this month! I was so surprised, I was so excited when I saw it for sale yesterday. It is a paperback though, so not as cool as the hardcover. Same goes for the spanish edition.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

Even though I still like the UK paperback, I don’t like it as much as the original, or even the spanish and portuguese editions. Somehow I think that the black there doesn’t quite fit, and the orange is slightly less pretty.

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

I’ve been trying to write this review for over a month… but today is the day! I read this book with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, and we had a blast with this one (as always!). Actually, this book started over a month full of buddy reads!! Eheh. Go check out her review of Illuminae here.

This is a very difficult book to review without spoiling anything, so I’ll give you guys a shortlist of my reasons why you should pick up this book NOW. OK?!

1. The format is fantastic. I wasn’t sure how this book would work, but it does! From interviews, to emails, to security cameras reports, etc, everything clicked and it was fantastic and fun and amazing.

2. This book is gorgeous. Somewhat related to the point above, but not really… This book is visually stunning, and it makes the experience of reading it all the more amazing. By the way, this book totally deserves the hardcover.

3. The characters. I never thought that I would get as attached to the characters as I did. At some point I realized that my heart was breaking for a character that had only appeared a couple of times, or another that I didn’t even think I liked. The format of the book shows the personalities and the characters instead of describing them to you, and in the process it’s impossible not to get attached.

4. It’s action packed and unpredictable. Again, it’s incredible how much action this book really has, and how you feel you’re living in the smack center of it.

5. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. I can’t even. I laughed and cried, and sobbed, and then laughed some more. Well done!

So, are you convinced yet? You need to pick up this masterpiece soon. It’s one of my favorite books ever. Reading it’s an experience. And don’t get intimidated by the size, because we flew through this book.

Hey guys! 🙂 After a successful reading month of February, when I read only romances, I want to keep the ball rolling and read a bunch of books this month too, and see if I can finally lift my Netgalley ratio closer to 80%. So, here are the books I plan on reading this month of March.

  1. Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – I actually started this one 3 days ago, and I’m buddy reading it with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much
  2. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig – I got this eARC from Netgalley and the plan is to also read it with Cátia 😀
  3. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – Now, as soon as this book is out, I’m buying it!
  4. Extreme by Lark O’Neal – I received this book for review from Xpresso Book Tours and I started it yesterday and OMG!! 😀 😀 😀
  5. Scandal: The Complete Series by Alison Foster – I also got this book for review from Xpresso Book Tours.
  6. Never Stop Falling by Ashley Drew – I’ll be reading this one as part as a blog tour from  Xpresso Book Tours.
  7. In Your Dreams by Ginger Scott –  I’ll be reading this one as part as a blog tour from WordSmith Publicity.
  8. Playing Defense by Cate Cameron – eARC from Netgalley, probably reading it with Cátia.
  9. Wanting More by Jessica Ruddick – eARC from Netgalley, probably reading it with Cátia (yeah, we have a lot of books to read together this month 😛 ).
  10. South of Sunshine  by Dana Elmendorf – eARC from Netgalley
  11. Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell – It’s already on my kindle, ready to be read.
  12. The Crown and the Arrow (The Wrath and the Dawn 0.5) by Renee Ahdieh – Khalid is waiting :D.

From this list, only 2 books and 2 novellas aren’t ARCs/Galleys, but I’m positive that I’ll be able to get to them all :). What about you? Are you reading any of these books?
