Movie of the Week: Beauty and the Beast

movie_gold

People, I have seen Beauty and the Beast twice now, and I’ve loved it a lot both times. I cried. I laughed. It made me super duper happy.

We all know the story, right? I have to say that I loved how faithful they were to the original animated movie, but they made it better, because they deppened the relationships and bonds between the characters, and filled some major plot holes from the animated version.

I loved all the characters and the actors playing them. Seriously, the casting was genius! Emma Watson was a perfect Belle, and I personally loved Dan Stevens as the Beast, especially while in Beast form, because he was so expressive! But Luke Evans as Gaston was brilliant and Josh Gad as LeFou was AMAZING! I loved what they did with LeFou’s character, because they actually gave him a brain and a personality.

Like I said previously, I think they did amazing with building the connection between the characters, and that’s especially true with Belle and the Beast’s relationship. There’s more moments and more talk, and actually getting to know each other in this adaptation, and YES! It was awesome.

Just to finish it off, I’m a huge fan of the musical side of this movie, and I was singing along throughout the whole movie… eheh 😀 .

I’m giving it 5 stars, for sure, because I loved it so much!

Now to you. Have you seen Beauty and the Beast?
Have you loved it as well? What are your Thoughts about it???

Music: Be Our Guest (Disney’s Beauty and the Beast)

Life is a funny thing. While growing up I positively hated the song “Be Our Guest” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Off course, I later realized that the problem was not the music, but the translation (I watched the movie in Brazilian-Portuguese when I was little), which totally sucked. But today I was listening to the Disney playlist on Spotify, and I totally love this music, it’s so addictive!

You can see here the horrific Brazilian version:

I love Disney!

A Court of Thorns and Roses (Sarah J. Maas)

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

The first thing you should know about A Court of Thorns and Roses is that it is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

It follows Feyre, once rich and part of a good family, but after her father has lost their fortune, she (the youngest of 3 sisters) has to protect them and hunt to keep food on their table. Her land was once rules by Fae, but there was a revolution and as a response the land was divided into human and Fae territories, which neither is supposed to enter the other. One day, while hunting, Feyre kills what she thinks is a wolf, only to latter find out that she actually killed a fairy and as payment, a high Fae, Tamlin, takes her to live in Prythian, in his Spring Court, forever.

**** WARNING – THERE WILL BE MAJOR SPOILERS ****

Since I told you that this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, you can guess what happens next, right? Feyre spends some time trying to get away, but she slowly but surely falls for Tamlin (who wouldn’t). This get complicated then, there’s a great darkness over the fairy lands, a Faerie Queen that rules all the lords through magic, and in order to protect Feyre, Tamlin sends her back home…

That doesn’t last long… after Feyre has gained some senses – it only takes way too long – she goes back, only to be captured and presented to the Queen, and then she has to go through a series of trials in order to free herself and her loved ones.

There are a few twists along the way, and be warned, Fairies can LIE!

I really loved this book. SO SO SO MUCH!

  • I thought the World building was pretty great and I can’t wait to see more of it, mainly all the other courts in Prythian.
  • I’m quite intrigued about Rhysand. As of now, I don’t ship him with Feyre, though I have to agree that the last scene hinted to some higher connections between them. I can’t wait to read about that one week a month that she’ll be spending at his court… forever!
  • I love Lucien. He might be my favorite character of all!!! He’s so snarky, I love him.
  • This book is HOT! Be warned, do not read this in public. I’m serious. From that corridor scene between Tamlin and Feyre, to the hot rendez-vous behind the throne… I mean… Tamlin… wow!
  • At first I really hated Feyre’s family, I mean, she’s the baby and she’s supposed to provide for everyone. But then Nesta really surprised me and I can’t wait to see more of her.
  • Amarantha’s back story was amazing, but I wasn’t sad to see her go…
  • Tamlin is so off his game that it’s hilarious!

“You look . . . better than before.”
Was that a compliment? I could have sworn Lucien gave Tamlin an encouraging nod.
“And you hair is . . . clean.”

I mean… poor baby… yes, honey, her hair is clean, but don’t worry, you’ll get there… and everywhere else…

  • I was really glad that Feyre got turned into Fae, though I honestly don’t know how she’ll be able to live with what she has done. That last task was brutal. I had my heart clenched the whole time. For a moment I thought that the last person would be Lucien, because let’s face it, Amarantha liked to torture Lucien, but when it turned out to be Tamlin, my heart broke.
  • And now that she’s got a long time to live and doesn’t have to worry about finding food, will Feyre finally learn how to read?

Beauty and the Beast: Ian McKellen to play Cogsworth

Sir Ian McKellen (you know, Magneto, Gandalf) will be playing Cogsworth in the upcoming live-action version of Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Director Bill Condon is getting an all-star cast for this one, Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. So the next question is, who is playing Lumiere and Chip?!

Beauty and the Beast: Dan Stevens and Luke Evans cast

Yesterday was a busy day for the Beauty and the Beast movie! It appears that they found the Beast and Gaston… yeah, both of them.

Let’s start with the most important, it appears that Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) was cast as the Beast (os Prince Adam), opposite Emma Watson’s Belle. I am super excited about this! I love Dan, he has an amazing presence and he’s gorgeous… I mean, have you see those eyes?!

For a moment there the whole internet was talking about how Ryan Gosling would be the perfect Beast and all I can say is THANK GOD they did not go there. Maybe it’s just me, I never saw The Notebook, but I really don’t think he’s all that much… I’m happy with their choice here.

Meanwhile, it appears that the villain Gaston will be played by no other than the amazingly perfect Luke Evans!!! I love him, love love love him, and I’m so used to him being perfectly good that I don’t know how I’ll fell about him being the cocky Gaston, but I’m sure he’ll be perfect (he always is!).

Emma Watson will be Belle!

What a great piece of news. Anything that can shine a so deserved spotlight on the amazing Emma Watson is worth reporting.

Disney has found its newest princess! Emma Watson will be Belle in the Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. And as the new princess reports, it will be a musical. CW: Cancels and Renewals

The CW announced yesterday the fate of 6 more shows, after the early renewal of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Reign, Supernatural and Arrow.

The network decided to axe The Carrie Diaries, The Tomorrow People and Star-Crossed. And decided to give another chance to Hart of DixieBeauty and the Beast and The 100, despite the first two shaky seasons.

Random realizations: the Genie, Mrs Potts and Lumiere

When I was a kid, we watched the Disney movies dubbed in Portuguese from Brazil, it wasn’t until 1994, and the release of The Lion King, that the movies started to be dubbed in Portuguese from Portugal… so obviously, (as a kid) I watched all of the Disney movies in either of these versions (Br or Pt), but I never saw them on their original version… at that time, we didn’t have that option, so that you have an idea, I own the Pocahontas DVD and it doesn’t even as the choice to put in another language…

Last week some kind of weird thing came over me and I decided to re-watch some of my favourite Disney movies, so I saw Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast (so far). So, just 3 random things that I wasn’t aware:

Robin Williams is the Genie in Aladdin!

I’m sure this is pretty common knowledge, but I had no idea! I grew up in a world where the amazing genie spoke Brazilian-Portuguese!!!

aladdin_l

And OMG, I thought the version I knew was good, but it has nothing to this amazing amazing talented performer! So so funny!!! And now that I know, I can totally see Robin in the Genie’s expressions and even in his eyes.

Angela Lansbury voiced Mrs Potts in Beauty and the Beast

It took me a bit by surprise when I first listened to Mrs Potts speak, in the original version movie of Beauty and the Beast, mainly because I grew up watching episodes of Murder, She Wrote and I knew that voice oh so well…. the amazing Jessica Fletcher a.k.a. Angela Lansbury!

beautybeast_lansbu_2164141i

and she even sung A Tale as Old as Time!

Jerry Orbach voiced Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast

This one I couldn’t believe… mainly because it doesn’t sound like him at all… maybe because of the french accent, but WOW! The famous Detective Lennie Briscoe in Law & Order and Baby’s father in Dirty Dancing gave voice to the super funny Lumiere… who knew?!
