Review Blitz: It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time (Kylie Scott)

Review:

“Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you’ll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!” – Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation — confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

I was so excited for this book, because I wasn’t quite sure on whether or not I would like this troupe, but it’s something that I don’t have issues with, as long as it’s well achieved, so I was excited. Let me say, this book wasn’t quite what I was expecting, and it disappointed me a bit.

I really liked the writing, and I loved the main character Adele. She was beyond amazing! However, I really needed a dual POV on this book, because Pete was a mystery to me, and still is. I needed to know what his feelings and thoughts were. On whether or not he had ever felt that way for Adele before? If it was new? What was exactly what he felt? The fact that we only had Adele’s POV, didn’t allow me to fully enjoy this story. Moreover, it’s not like Adele and Pete had deep and long conversations after they finally got involved, and discussed their feelings, so again, I have no clue. If I’m being honest, I’m not entirely sure I even liked Pete, and that put a damp on my enjoyment of this story.

What I loved was Adele’s relationship with her dad and her new stepmom. That was gold.

There’s also something that happens toward the end of the book, that I was not a fan of. At all. I wished it had never happened. But oh well.

I really liked the setting of this book, and I adored Adele. She’s the reason I’m rating this book this high. I would be ok with the age difference and the story itself, but I had major issues with Pete, so I could never get fully onboard with the relationship.

But hey, try it, and then tell me your thoughts.

Excerpt:

It was meant to be a soft kiss. A chaste one, even.

The minute my lips touched his, however, everything changed. Callused hands grabbed the sides of my face and my mouth opened on a gasp. His tongue swept inside, taking me over. Holy hell. Shoes and purse hit the floor, forgotten. Nothing about this kiss was slow or easy. The man devoured me. Every ounce of emotion poured into that kiss, all of the anger and frustration between us. His tongue was teasing and tasting, driving me wild. Then he drew back to suck and nip at my bottom lip. One hand slid around the back of my neck, the other over my hip to grab at my ass. His hold was firm, a little rough even. He treated my body like it belonged to him and I wasn’t gentle either.

Apparently experience mattered. Because all I could do was try and keep up.

I held on tight to his open shirt, straining against him, trying to get closer. I’d have crawled inside the man if I could. Turned out that under certain circumstances, the taste of scotch worked for me in a big way. Against my hip, his cock hardened, digging into me. And oh my God, I’d done that to him. Me. How amazing! Meanwhile, my body felt liquid, core aching and empty. I needed him inside of me and it seemed like I’d already been waiting forever.

“Pete. Please.”

“Fuck,” he muttered, breath hot against my ear.

I fumbled at the remaining buttons on his shirt. My damn fingers didn’t seem to be working. Easier to just push the whole thing upward. Luckily, the man decided to help, tearing the shirt off over his head. More skin was good. And he was so hot and smooth, a thrill to the touch. The solid flesh of his pecs and the flat plane of his stomach.

He tore at the zipper on the back of my dress, dragging fabric down over my shoulders. A growl came from the back of his throat, a noise of frustration, impatience. I’m reasonably certain I heard the silk rip. I didn’t care. His hands and mouth seemed to cover every bit of skin revealed, touching and tasting me everywhere. The dress got stuck on my hips. Out of the way enough for now.

He didn’t even bother undoing my bra, simply peeling down one of the lace cups to free my flesh. My breast filled his hot palm as it took the weight. Fingers plumped me, his thumb flicking over my hard nipple. The sting of pain followed by the heat of his kiss made my head spin and my body ache. There was no room for thought as he fed me deep, wet kisses. Slowly, he took us to the floor. No time for anything else. Just the urgent need to have him inside me.

The hardness of the polished wood was cool against my back. My legs were spread, his body between them. And with his broad chest above me, his weight taken on one arm, he was all I could see. I swear even the insides of my thighs were wet, I was so ready. It would have been embarrassing with anybody else. But this man, he had to know, he had to understand. It had always been him.

“Pete, I need—”

“I know,” he said, voice harsh and low.

Review:

I’ll say this about Christian — he made one hell of a first impression.
When I first saw the strapping man, he was doing handstands naked on a dock along the canal. His crown jewels were far more entertaining than anything else I’d seen on the boat tour, so I did what any curious woman would do — I took his photo. I might have looked at the shot a few dozen times. Little did I know I’d meet him again, a year later, at a secret garden bar in the heart of the city, where I’d learn that his mind and his mouth were even more captivating.

But given the way my heart had been trampled, I wanted only a simple deal — No strings. No expectations.

Our arrangement worked well enough until the day I needed a lot more from him…

***

Let me just say, this whole part-time lover thing was her idea. I’d have gone all-in from the start, but hey, when a gorgeous, brilliant woman invites you into her bed, and only her bed…well, I said yes.

But then, one hysterical phone call from my brother later, begging me to find myself a wife so grandfather’s business stays in the family, and I need a promotion with Elise. Turns out a full-time husband suits her needs too, and a temporary marriage of convenience ought to do the trick, until we can simply untie the knot…

As long as no one finds out…
As long as no one gets hurt…
As long as no one falls in love…

But our ending was one I never saw coming.

By now you guys know I love love love audiobooks, and I’m always excited to listen to one of Lauren Blakely’s books. Not only because she’s the author who made me love audiobooks, but because I usually love ALL of her books. This one was no exception.

I’m really happy to see more of Christian and Elise, who are first introduced in Wanderlust, and to finally know the story behind both characters. And like the previous book, this one draws you in with the descriptions of the stores, the streets, and the smells, of Paris, Copenaghen and New York. I really like this, and it works even better in audio form.

I adored both main characters, especially Christian… I liked that he understood his feelings and pursued what he wanted. Elise was a perfect counterpart for Christian, she had such hard limits and high walls, but she wanted to be open and herself, but just too scared to be able to do it. They support each other, and they both grow up a lot, mainly Elise.

Fake relationships turned real is one troupe I like, and it was super well done here. The whole plot was very entertaining and enjoyable. I was only expecting a bit more from the whole thing with Erik’s wife… and I’m wondering if that was the last we’ll see of him?!

So, guys, get on board with this one. Another fantastic read from Lauren Blakely.

“From the beautiful backdrop to the witty dialogue and the heartwarming romance, Part-time Lover is a keeper.”

Blog Tour: Two Wedding Crashers (Meghan Quinn)

Review:

I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem — but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?

That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.

It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.

Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.

One thing is guaranteed when picking up a Meghan Quinn book: we’re in for a good and funny time. Her writing just has something to it, that makes be belly laugh in each and every book. This one wasn’t an exception. To be honest, I liked this one better than the first book on the series, Three Blind Dates.

I never expected to like Beck as much as I did in this book. He was the only one from the first book that I wasn’t that sure about, and I can’t believe that Meghan Quinn completely changed my mind about him. His story didn’t quite surprise me, and that’s a good thing, but his way of thinking, feeling and the way he lived his life, stole my heart.

Rylee was so messed up, but I loved this girl. She was scared, but she goes through such a character growth within the book, and I loved to read about it. She’s fierce, and I loved how her mind worked, and all her dirty thoughts

The chemistry between Beck and Rylee was off the charts, and I was surprised it took them so long to actually act on it, but I loved the slow burn, even if the implied chemistry, connection and romance was there from the start.

The plot was amazing, I loved the involvement of the family and friends too. I could definitely read more about them, and the life they created together. It was that good.

So, people, if you haven’t started this series yet, do, now. If you haven’t read anything by Meghan Quinn, what are you doing with your life?!

Excerpt:

Chills scream their way down my arms and legs, my nipples pucker, and just like that, with one word, all humor vanishes from our little conversation and awareness of this all-consuming man wrapped around me hits me hard.

Gathering myself, I say, “Tell me something Chris and Justine know about you.”

“Hmm.” His thumbs hook under the waistband of my shorts, playing with the lower part of my hipbones. His touch spurs on my pelvis, needing to rock, begging for him to go lower. My toes curl in my sandals and my back slightly arches, reaching for more. “Something they know about me.”

His mouth doesn’t stray from its position against my ear, and his hips start to slowly move underneath me, his legs tangling with mine. Involuntarily, one of my hands hooks the back of his neck as I hold on tightly to him, feeling like I need support from the onslaught of sensation I’m feeling.

I hear him say something, but it doesn’t register in my brain, which has turned to mush as his thumbs stray from my hipbones to right above my pubic bone.

There is no denying how turned on I am, how wet I am from his mere touch, how much — despite my reservations — I want this man.

With each stroke, my head turns farther and farther to the side until our noses are touching, Beck’s head bends forward to meet me halfway. My eyes flutter shut for a brief moment before I open them and am captured by those flecks of green and gold.

The air stills around us, our breath mixing, swirling between us, our lips so close.

One swipe of this thumb.

Another one.

I can’t breathe.

I can’t focus.

Another swipe, my head leans even closer, my tongue wetting my lips.

One more swipe . . .

My heart hammers in my chest, my skin prickling with awareness.

Beck brings his mouth even closer, only a whisper away now, and he waits.

Holding still.

His breathing feeling erratic beneath me.

One.

More.

Swipe.

And I’m gone.

I bring my mouth to his, slowly parting my lips ever so slightly, just enough to maneuver my mouth across his.

A low, provocative moan escapes Beck as one of his hands snags the back of my head and holds me in place, almost as if he lets go, I’ll disappear.

Needing more, I shift on his lap so I’m straddling him once again, my hands on his bare chest, feeling the powerful sinew that holds him together.

Our lips press and mold, mingling, taking, begging . . .

Desperate.

Beck’s tongue runs against my bottom lip, eliciting a moan from deep within me, lighting a fire so hot, so wild, my hands start to travel up his neck to his cheeks where I grip him, positioning his head so when I open my mouth, I can expertly dive my tongue onto his.

He groans, his lap shifting against mine now, his hard-on pressing against my wet and throbbing center. I match his rocking, using my position on his lap to take advantage of his length I can feel through his board shorts.

This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen, but God, am I happy it has. Maybe I really should live in the moment, maybe I should take advantage of the opportunity, maybe I should…

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Blog Tour: Wildcat (Max Monroe)

Wildcat: a football formation in which the ball is snapped, not to the quarterback, but to another player lined up in the quarterback position.

Wild, Cat: a beautiful woman from the sky, who hooked me against the rails, and has me on the ropes. Sweet like honey, with a hint of sass burning behind her pretty brown eyes, she took over my heart without warning.

I’m Quinn Bailey, quarterback for the New York Mavericks.
Sports analysts predicted I’d break records and take my team all the way.

But no one predicted this.

And just like the other team, I never saw it coming.

Disclaimer:

Things this book is:
• Romantic Comedy
• #1 in the Mavericks Tackle Love Series
• Can be read as a complete standalone.

Things it isn’t:
• Paranormal: The only thing magical is inside Quinn Bailey’s pants.
• Boring: Pssh, please. Max Monroe doesn’t do boring.
• Short: Prior to reading, prepare yourself for one huge, long, thick…book.

Deanna told me several times to read something by Max Monroe, and I’m so glad I listened to her, because I absolutely loved Wildcat. The writing is amazing, and now I definitely want to pick up more books by this duo. It was the perfect mix and balance of comedy and swoony romance, so right up my alley.

I loved the 2 main characters, especially Quinn. It’s so refreshing to get an absolutely great guy as a romance hero, that was always a genuine good guy, and doesn’t mind fighting hard for the girl he likes. Quinn treated Cat like a princess right from the start, he knew what he wanted and he went after it, in the most sweet and amazing way. I also loved how he dealt with his fan base, and even his family, though his parents did not deserve it, to be honest. But his brother Devon stole my heart, and I want a book about him ASAP!

Catharine was such a beautiful and amazing woman. She took her time, but it was impossible not to fall for Quinn’s charms, and not to fall in love with him completely. She was such a strong and independent woman, and she always tried her best, and she was awesome.

As a reader, it was impossible not to fall in love with their connecting and their love for each other. The romance was slow to pick up pace, but when it did, it was full steam ahead. They were perfect together, even with all the difficulties they had to face.

I really liked the plot and the conflict. For awhile, I wasn’t quite seeing how a conflict was going to be introduced, because they seemed so amazing, but when it it, it was sad as s**t, and I wanted to murder someone. It reflects some truths about our society, and I loved how they were able to overcome it and become better because of it.

Overall, amazing experience, and one of my favorites for the year so bar. So yeah, go pick up Wildcat. I can’t wait to read all the other books in this serie, and hope against hope that a book about Devon (and maybe Casey) is coming our way.

Blog Tour: Stud (Kelly Siskind)

Title: Stud
Author: Kelly Siskind
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: January 31, 2018

Review:

A down-to-earth carpenter. A Prada loving personal shopper.

A Habitat for Humanity project that erects more than walls…

The word “nail” has so many meanings:

Ainsley Hall’s manicured nails belong in the Museum of Modern Art.

The fashionista hammers nails at Habitat for Humanity.

She desperately wants to nail Owen Phillips.

Unfortunately, she mistakenly thinks he’s gay.

Owen’s never-ending divorce has taken a turn from messy to downright vindictive. Yearning for the simpler things in life, like working with his hands, he joins a Habitat build. Turns out he also wants to work over Ainsley Hall…but the confusing bombshell flirts blatantly with other men.

When Ainsley discovers Owen’s true sexuality, their mutual attraction ignites, but he hasn’t shared the extent of his divorce drama. If he can’t disprove his ex’s false allegations, it will take more than hammers and nails (and nailing studs) to keep their walls from caving in.

I love Kelly Siskind’s books, and this one was not an exception. After Legs, I wanted to read more about Rachel’s friends, and I’m so happy we finally got a book about Ainsley and Owen.

If you  haven’t read any of Kelly’s books, I don’t know what you’re doing, because her writing is amazing, super funny, with a lot of emotion thrown into it. I have to say that I ended up liking Stud more than I liked Legs, because I felt like the story and plot were better. I loved LOVED LOVED the story. And the characters… Owen is AMAZING, and he kind of reminds me of Sam (from Chasing Crazy) for some reason. Whatever, I loved him, how he loved so fiercely… And Ainsley is a hoot! Even though she was so scared of getting hurt, she was funny and she let herself feel, and I loved her.

The fact that their relationship started as friendship was a big plus for me, and the chemistry between these 2 characters was off the charts.

What kept me from loving this book anymore than I did, was the fact that it felt a little slow for the first half of it. There was nothing wrong with the pacing, it just felt slow to me, which kept me from enjoying it more.

Either way, another amazing book from Kelly Siskind, and I seriously recommend you to read this book, and all her other books. Because she’s the bomb!

Read an Excerpt:

Her gaze dipped down my body, slow and languid, soaking me in. Something in me twitched to life, like a phantom limb reminding me hot blood once pumped through my veins. All my veins. My groin got heavy, heat flushing my thighs. Because she looked at me.I let that notion marinate and did my best to keep my brain on target. “If you plan on volunteering, show up at the construction site at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Nick will take you through the paces.”

“Will you be here?”

“Possibly.”

“Are you here every day?”

“Some.”

“Do you often answer questions with one word?”

“Depends.”

She tipped her head, those stunning eyes intent upon me. Suddenly, heading home for beers and pizza didn’t sound as appealing. I dug my boots deeper into the earth.

She swiped her tongue across her full bottom lip. “All right, tough guy. I’ll be here next week, volunteer ready, where you may or may not be, depending on if you do or do not decide to show up.”

Every word dripped with flirtatiousness, but I stayed quiet. The way I’d all but grunted at her so far, probably better to keep my mouth shut.

So we stood there—her waiting on me to speak, a skateboarder barreling down the road at our left. Me unsure why she was affecting me.

I missed being with a woman. Missed the slide of soft skin and wet mouths, and locking my girl in my arms for the night. But I’d sworn I’d do it right this time. Not rush in. Make sure I dated someone with depth and interests outside of making bank. Everything about this spitfire girl read narcissistic.

When our silence slipped into awkward, she fluttered her fingers in my face. “It’s been…interesting.”

I offered her a curt nod.

Chuckling to herself, she spun around, but her right heel wedged into the loose dirt. Those damn shoes were lethal. She sank an inch and teetered, but seemed to catch herself. Then her massive purse fell. The thick strap landed on her forearm, tipping the balance. She shot out her hand, struggling to stay upright.

I lunged for her, clasping her trim waist to hold her steady. And close. Too close. Not near enough for her to feel how I was thickening behind my zipper, but the air swelled. It dilated with feminine scents. Something sweet. Nice.
She smelled like chocolate.

My hands spanned her waist from behind, her curves above and below all woman. Hour glass, like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe. Jean Harlow. Mae West. Over the years, I’d watched every classic movie there was, wishing I could slip to a time when men danced and women sang and loyalty and love were valued over getting ahead. An old soul, my nana always said. Or a romantic. Or just plain trouble.

Now I had my hands on a dangerous beauty.

Erin Doyle can’t stand man whores, and she particularly can’t stand Brendan Langstrom — the guy who avoids relationships like the plague and never sleeps with the same girl twice. She and Brendan have waged a war of mutual disdain for years, but when Brendan picks up the pieces after Erin’s world unravels, they’ll both be forced to admit that beneath their dislike is something else entirely — something they’re not supposed to feel. I read this book as a buddy read with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too, go to her blog on the next few days to read her review of this book.

Awhile back I read Waking Olivia, which I loved, and I was excited for this one, because it’s about Olivia’s BFF and Will’s brother. So YAY, I love spin offs, and I love to know more about the secondary characters that show up in certain books. So let me tell you what worked for me and what didn’t in Drowning Erin.

THE POSITIVE:

Enemies to lovers and second chance romance… I love those tropes, and those were the ones used in this book, so YAY.

The writing and the structure. There’s no doubt for me that Elizabeth O’Roark’s writing is amazing, and she decided to write this book in dual POV, with present and past mixed. Which was great. Also, the chapters were super small, and that made the book flow super fast.

Even though I had a lot of issues with the characters, they were super complex and there is a lot of character growth during this novel.

DE_BLITZ_2

THE NEGATIVE:

The miscommunication! OH MY GOD! There are so many situations that Erin and Brendan could have just talked, and stuff would have been okay. They just assumed the worst of each other and never even thought about actually communicating properly.

Erin was not my favorite character… at all. While I understood her feelings and her need to feel secure, I hated how she was so willing to lose herself and stay with Rob. I hated how she never fought for what she wanted or needed until way way into the book.

With that in mind, I hated the love triangle on this book. Especially, I hated how long it lasted…

Early Praise for Drowning Erin:

“Drowning Erin is the read I’ve been searching for, but had no idea I was trying to find.” Isha, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★

“I couldn’t put it down.” Elaine, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★

“I could feel the angst, the dilemma, oozing out of the pages. Poor Erin; I wanted to both hug her and shake her at the same time.” Lisa, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

“Oh the angst!! This book was so wonderfully written, I don’t know if I can recommend it enough!!” Heidi, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

Enter Violet and a well-placed Hail Mary.

She’s my best friend’s sister with a smile as sweet as cherry pie and a mind that runs quicker than the 40-yard-dash. After Violet saves the day with the highest bid, I don’t even give her a two-minute warning before I kiss her in front of the whole crowd and then announce that she’s my girlfriend. Which would be fine except my agent tells me we have to keep up the act while he’s negotiating my contract.

Violet takes one for the team and pretends to be mine, but our boyfriend-girlfriend scrimmage quickly turns into a full contact sport, and I want it to go into overtime. The problem is — I’ve been riding the bench for years.

How can a guy like me, who finally has a chance to prove his worth on the field, convince the girl she’s most valuable to his heart?

MOST VALUABLE PLAYBOY is a brand new standalone sports romance written in the guy’s POV!

Most Valuable Playboy was another fantastic book by Lauren Blakely! Blakely is definitly my go-to author if I want a great and funny romance, and so far, I’ve loved every single book that I read by her.

Obviously I loved the writing, and the fact that this book is told exclusively through Cooper’s POV was an added bonus. You guys know how much I love a book told only through the guy’s point of view, they’re usually fantastic, and Blakely always does an amazing job with those.

Cooper was just such an amazing guy to read about. He’s confident and fun, but he’s also not afraid of his feelings, and he faces things head on. I loved this. I was a bit scared that the fact that Violet was his BFF’s little sister would be a problem, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the way that Cooper dealt with all his issues. Violet was also a delight, and even though I like a book written only through the guy’s POV, I always feel like we don’t get to know the lady as well, but hey, I’ll take it, because from what I could see, she was fantastic and the most perfect match for Cooper.

These two together were all kinds of adorable! They just fit perfectly together, and they were just meant to be. Their chemistry was also off the charts and the hot scenes were, well, HOT! And the fact that they were already super great friends before they got involved, only made everything better, because it was so clear that they actually KNEW each other on a much deeper level.

This story was so cute. I really liked it, and I adored the plot and the depth of the feelings these characters had for one another. I definitly recommend Most Valuable Playboy, another amazing book by Lauren Blakely.

Excerpt:

Always a bridesmaid.

No Action Armstrong.

Ball Cap Boy.

Mr. Clean.

The Unused Insurance Plan.

Oh wait. Here’s one more, a personal fave.

Best Butt in the NFL.

Those are just some of the nicknames I’ve been given in the last few years. They don’t bug me. Not one bit. They’ve all been true, especially that last one. You should see my ass. You can bounce a quarter off my cheeks.

Here’s the thing — when you spend the first three years of your career warming the bench for the best player in the league, you can’t get a chip on your shoulder. You have to stay sharp and be ready for that moment when you swap out a ball cap for a helmet and get your pants dirty.

My time has finally come this season, and so far, we’re winning.

But tonight isn’t about what happens between the opening kickoff and the end of the fourth quarter.

Tonight is about the one game I’ve always dominated.

For the last few years, I’ve been the highest ticket item in the players’ annual charity auction, and I can’t help enjoying that. Because the guy I’ve backed up has been called a lot of things — a legend, the greatest ever, a titan of the game — but the one I most enjoy is “second-best-looking quarterback on the Renegades.”

Hey, I didn’t give him that name. The media did, deciding the dude who play second-string — me — had a prettier face. Before this season, I’d seen a grand total of 120 minutes of playing time in my first three years, but I’ve taken home the top honors in the charity auction, where some of the loveliest ladies come to bid on the players they want to take out for a night on the town.

Ah, the memories of those dates have warmed my heart, and other parts, on the sidelines when the games were dull. Evenings in limos, testing the strength of the leather backseat, nights in hotels that lasted way past dawn, mutually and blissfully ignoring the no physical contact between the winner and the player rule.

Yeah, I’ve enjoyed the fuck out of being paraded on stage in front of hundreds of women, their slender arms lifted in the air, raising their bids higher on me than all the other guys. It’s been my one chance to shine, even to stand out.

Those days are behind me, though, now that I’m finally leading the team down the field every single Sunday. I still expect to rake in top dollar for the charity I gladly support, but this time, I won’t be living it up and letting loose after hours. I have a reputation to protect, and a season on the line.

The trouble is, the woman who has her eyes on me at the Most Valuable Playboy charity auction wants my full enchilada, and it’s not on the menu anymore.

Guess that means it’s time to call an audible on the line of scrimmage.

Blog Tour: Beard in Mind (Penny Reid)

BEARD IN MIND BT BANNER.jpg

Beard in Mind, an all new standalone in the bestselling, romantic comedy Winston Brothers Series by Penny Reid, is available NOW!

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.

Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.

She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.

Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity — exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity — and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

Review:

This book was a huge surprise. Somehow, I was expecting Beau’s book to be all fun and games, and what I got was the most serious and deep book of this series. This book made me cry like crazy instead of laugh.

Once again the writing was wonderful, but this book definitly felt very differently than the others on this series. This book is mostly told through Beau’s POV, and we only get Shelly’s perspective when she’s in the doctor’s office. While I understood the need for it to be this way, I also felt like I was missing something. I wanted to see a bit of Shelly’s day to day life through her own head. I wanted to read her struggles in real time. But either way, I liked that I got at least the bits and pieces in those sessions.

I really liked the two main characters, though I wanted to see a bit more of Beau too, what I did see of these 2, I liked. I loved Shelly, how wonderful she was, how trusting and willing, even through all her issues. How she didn’t hide from who she was. She was brave and beautiful. Beau is great, but I already knew that, because I’ve been seeing bits and pieces of him for several books. But I really liked how supportive he was of Shelly. How he SAW HER!

Obviously I really liked the connection and the romance between these two characters. But most than anything I loved that the romance wasn’t used as a cure for Shelly’s issues. Beau helped her deal and adapt, but it was her battle, her refrigerator, and he was just handing her the tools when she wanted them. I LOVED THIS MESSAGE! You have to do you, and work on you. No one can do that in your place. You can only be supportive of the other person and be there for better or worse, and that’s what these two did for each other. A thousand times yes!

Of course I would have liked more to the story, especially I would have liked some closure and some sense of answers about the future. But we are still 2 books away from the end, and I hope that the next 2 books will give me closure about all the couples I love so much.

Also, I kind of saw that shitstorm coming, but I’m so excited about it. It just made things even more interesting, eheh.

I’m gonna ask again… Why haven’t you guys started this series yet?
It is seriously fantastic!

Excerpt:

She’d taken the sofa, in her own house, and given me the bed. That didn’t make a lick of sense.

I crouched next to her, threading my fingers into the silky hair at her temples. “Honey.”

“Mmm.”

I bent to whisper, “Shelly.”

“Hmm?”

“I’m going to carry you to your bed. I’ll take the sofa.”

“Mmm.”

I grinned at her soft noises, at the untroubled expression on her face, and how her brow — even in sleep — still looked regal and stern.

Sliding my arms under her legs and shoulder, I picked her up. And, unfortunately, that woke her up.

She jerked in my arms. “What are you doing?”

“I’m taking you to the bed.”

“Don’t do that.”

“I don’t mind, I’ll take the sofa.” Our mouths were just inches apart, and hers was distracting.

She squirmed. “Put me down.”

Sighing unhappily, I did. I set her on her feet next to the couch. The blanket pooled at her feet and I stepped back to give her some space. It was dark, but I could see her just fine, and that meant I had to force my eyes to remain above her neck. The woman was wearing two pathetic scraps of fabric as pajamas. A thin little tank top and shorts. That’s it.

I set my jaw and turned to the side, waiting for her to walk past.

“Where are you?”

I glanced at her and realized she couldn’t see at all. She didn’t have a hand out, but the way her eyes were moving about the room gave away her blindness.

“I’m here.” I didn’t touch her, because if I did, I wouldn’t want to stop.

Shelly turned her head in my direction and took a deep breath. Still she didn’t reach for me. I didn’t know the specifics of what to expect after her Friday session, but I recalled Dr. West saying something about Shelly doing self-guided ERP exercises over this week.

“Can you see?” She licked her lips, her voice sandpapery. “Because I can’t see at all. It’s so dark.”

“I can see.” Unbidden, my eyes dropped to her body, to the swell of her breasts, the panel of bare stomach, the curve of her hips. Pinpricks of heat raised over my skin and I curled my hands into fists.

She shuffled forward and I caught her before she bumped into me, setting my hands gently at her waist.

“Let me take you to your room.” My voice was rough, for obvious reasons.

Saying nothing, she brought her hand to my forearm, her body gently colliding with mine. And then her hand on my arm slid up my bicep to my shoulder.

“Shelly.” I was running out of breath.

“I like this.”

“What?”

“Touching you.”

Oh fuck.

I held still and endured her hands moving over my body, down the front of my shirt, stopping at the hem, then pushing it up.

“Take this off.”

I did. I pulled the T-shirt over my head and let it drop to the floor.

We stood there, facing each other in the dark, not touching. Despite the session on Friday and the progress that had been made, I realized she wasn’t quite there yet. Dr. West was right, Friday was just a step, the first step. Shelly wasn’t able to initiate contact. Not yet.

Her hands balled into fists and she swayed forward, her breath struggling little puffs.

If anything was going to happen tonight, I had to initiate it. I had to be the one to touch first.

God, how I wanted her. How I wanted her above me, beneath me, surrounding me. But how could I?

“I know why I hesitate,” her voice was breathless, “but why do you hesitate?”

“Lots of reasons.”

“Give me one.”

“I don’t want to you use you.”

“I wish you would.”

That pulled a laugh from me, just a small relief from the mounting tension. My eyes moved over her body, an undeniable impulse to devour the sight of her, her legs, stomach, chest, then up her neck to her lips.

“You asked me on Saturday if sex was a big deal for me, or if it was you. The answer is both.”

She held very still, and I got the sense she was holding her breath, straining to listen.

“You are a big deal to me. I don’t want a fling. I don’t want a flirtation. I want promises.”

“What can I promise you?”

That you’ll love me. That I’ll be your priority.

She shifted her weight from foot to foot. A spike of anxiety that she might leave me like this had me acting without forethought. I lifted my hands to her waist again and immediately, her fingertips skimmed over skin of my lower stomach in response, making my muscles tense in hot anticipation. She grew more assertive as she caressed my sides, abdomen, ribs, chest, shoulders, and then back down.

Shelly stepped closer, a hint of thrilling contact between her breasts and my torso, and all the words and worries melted from my mind, died on my tongue, suffocated by the feel of her body, and the possibility of this moment.

Her finger hooked in the waistband of my jeans. “Take these off.” Her hand turned, her fingers and palm cupping me over my zipper.

Instinctively, I pressed myself into her touch even as I grabbed her wrist.

“Beau, I promise—”

She didn’t get to speak, because I kissed her, hard and wild, unbuttoning and unzipping my fly with one hand and bringing her palm inside my boxers with the other.

Blog Tour: Mixed Up (Emma Hart)

MIXEDUP-availnow2

Dirty cocktails, deadly enemies with a red-hot attraction, and one big, crazy, Greek family — what could possibly go wrong?

Hiring my brother’s best friend was not on my to-do list.
Neither was he.

Expanding my dirty cocktail bar into food was supposed to be easy, except finding a chef in my little town of Whiskey Key is anything but.
Until Parker Hamilton comes home — bringing his Michelin starred chef’s hat with him.
He has no work. I need someone like him in my new kitchen.
There’s just one problem: I hate his cocky, filthy-mouthed, sexy-as-hell guts.
Even if I might want him. Just a little…

Working for my best friend’s sister? Not on my to-do list.
She’s another story.

Whiskey Key was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, except I haven’t reached the heights I have by lying in a hammock drinking cocktails. So when Raven Archer is desperate for a chef, I offer up my skills.
I’m bored. She needs what I can give her.
Except there’s a problem: I’ve always hated her.
Her and her big, blue eyes, sassy mouth, and killer curves.
If only I didn’t want her.

Review:

Mixed Up is a very cute and fast enemies-to-lovers and BFF’s sibling romance. I’m going into this review a little differently than I usually go about them, ok? I’m going to say what worked for me, and what didn’t.

So, what I did like!

  • I really enjoyed the setting – the bar/restaurant setting and the crazy greek family totally worked for me.
  • The hate/sexual tension between Raven and Parker.
  • The main plot and conflict of this romance. I liked this a lot, because it was a real issue for me.

What didn’t quite work in my opinion…

  • Unfortunately the writing didn’t quite work for me, and I think my problem was mainly the fluctuation between past and present tense throughout the whole book.
  • The base for all the hate. I get that sometimes people hate each other just because, but it didn’t feel right to me, somehow.
  • The timeline. Let me explain here, ok? Both Raven and Parker are adults, and the last time they had seen each other, they had been adults, and yet… they somehow seem surprised by how hot they both are? Also, they remark how different they look? I don’t know… something felt a little off for me.
  • The lack of character development…

With all this said, I still really enjoyed this book, and I would like to read more about the other characters in this story. I also would have liked to see where Parker and Raven would be a little down the road.

If you’re looking for a fun and quick hate to love romance, give this one a go.

Excerpt:

I knew I was making a mistake. After what Raven said last night at dinner, I had the strongest urge to find out what her cocktail menu was. With names like Dirty Screw and The Slutwhisperer, what other gems did she have hidden on there?

Shit, what gems were hidden inside her apparently filthy mind?

I had no place to be thinking that. She was Ryan’s sister and the bane of my goddamn existence. I didn’t give a shit what was inside her head or how she came up with a filthy cocktail menu.

I was going to believe that she’d spent stupid amounts of time on the Internet coming up with those kinds of names. Seeing her in that damn short dress yesterday had already affected me enough—not to mention the fact that she’d changed since I last saw her.

I didn’t know people could change so much in only three years, but Raven Archer had. She was no longer post-grad, trying to seriously figure out what she wanted to do with her life, uncertain and serving burgers to people to make money.

She was grown-up, in more ways than just her age. She was even hotter-headed that she was back then. She seemed stronger and more stubborn, and her tongue was so sharp I probably have scars from how quickly she cut me with her words.

She was taller and fucking curvier, too.

Her lips were fuller. Her eyes were brighter. And the general air that hung about her, that hint of sass and sexiness, the very same thing that made me insult her whenever I opened my mouth almost made me want her, too.

And that was exactly why I couldn’t sit and think about what went on in her mind—filthy or otherwise.

No matter what she looked like or how fucking hot she was, she was my best friend’s sister. Nobody was more off-limits than she was. That wasn’t a new development. It had always been that way.

Thank fucking god I was only here for the summer, and only because my mother had guilted me into it.

As soon as the summer was over, I’d go for my next challenge.

I could get through a few weeks of being in the same town or two as Raven — because after today, avoidance was at the top of my life.

Otherwise, I’d go fucking insane.

Dirty was right on the seafront, only meters away from a small, sandy bay. It’d only taken me a few minutes to walk here from where I’d parked downtown, and despite the music coming from inside the bar, I could still hear the gentle crashing of the waves as they crawled up the sand. The water was right out, and I stared out at the water as I headed up the hill to the bar.

Fairy lights twinkled along the underside of the roof that jutted out over the sidewalk. It was like a goddamn princess castle from the outside, but the beachy vibe was evident. Different sized and colored shells covered the pillars that held up the balcony that jutted out over the front doors.

I pushed open the door. Cold air blasted into me, and so did the heavy bass beat of the music that blared out from the speakers just above my head. There were more fairy lights inside, but they were strung all beneath the bar, across the beams on the ceiling, and over the back wall where the spirits were on the wall. There wasn’t much else in the way of lighting, but what there was was effective enough in holding the entire space into a balance between bright and dusky.

The inside of Raven’s bar was like being outside at the moment the sun set.

I cast my gaze over the rest of the bar. The solid, wood tables and stools that lines the walls and filled the space to my left all had tiny vases of fresh flowers in. Even those were surrounded by fairy lights.

Fucking hell, did she let a class of little girls in here to decorate?

No matter what I felt about the fairy lights, it looked good. Damn good.

I stepped up to the bar and leaned forward on it. Raven was at the other end of the bar, wearing jeans and a tight tank top that tucked beneath the waistband. Strappy, silver heels on her feet glinted off the under-bar lighting, and it was all too easy for me to drop my eyes there then slowly drag my gaze up the length of her entire body.

Light bounced off the chrome cocktail shaker in her hand as she shook it. She popped off the top with one slick of her thumb, and without spilling a drop, poured the pink-red liquid into two martini-style glasses. With her other hand, she reached back to the register and jabbed at it.

Seconds later, she was handing them back their change. It all happened in a flash.

How did such she go from lost to…this…so quick?

“Raven!” A dark-haired woman sitting a few stools away from me with her friend yelled. “There’s a hot guy staring at you!”

I laughed loudly as Raven jerked around. Her gaze landed on me with what felt like a snap, and I swore she mouthed, “Motherfucker,” before she stalked to this end of the bar.

Her hands slapped on the bar in front of me. “What are you doing here?”

“I told you I was coming to check out your menu.”

“He was checking out more than the menu,” the woman’s friend giggled.

Raven held her finger up to them, and with her other hand, slapped a smooth, laminated menu in front of me. “Did you drive?”

“No, I walked all the way from Key West.” I picked up the menu. “Of course I drove.”

“Pick one,” she said, moving away. “I’m not serving you anymore than that. Make it a good choice. What can I get for you?” she asked someone else, cutting me off before I could say a word.

I raised my eyebrows.

“She runs a tight ship,” the first woman said. “Three days ago, there was a guy in here spiking drinks. She caught him and bashed him in the balls with her cocktail shaker so he couldn’t run from the security guard.”

Could my eyebrows go up any higher? “That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve seen her do worse.”

The second woman’s eyes narrowed. “You have? You know her?”

The first woman rolled her eyes. “Of course he does, Cam. When have you seen her react to a customer like that? He obviously pissed her off in a past life or something.”

“I should be so lucky.” I smirked. “More like all in this life.”

“Her brother’s friend, right?” She tilted her head to the side. “Yeah, she mentioned she hated you.”

She’d talked about me?

“She didn’t say you were hot, though,” the second woman said.

“Camille!”

Ahhh.

The best friends.

“What?” Camille said. “I’m just saying.”

“No more Slutwhisperers for you,” the other woman — the one I presumed to be Lani — said, reaching for her glass.

Camille leaned over and slurped the last of the drink through the straw.

That explained the name of the cocktail.

“What are you doing?” Raven asked, stopping in front of them. “Cam? Your glass is empty. Let me refill that for you.” She winked to the other girl as she turned around.

What was she doing?

She put her back to her friends and grabbed the tequila bottle. She tipped it over a cocktail shaker without actually pouring anything into it. My lips quirked up as she put together what was some pink juice or something and blended it with raspberries.

She poured the mixture into a glass with some vigor in front of Camille.

She’d made her a placebo.

“Made your choice?” Raven turned to me, holding onto the shaker.

“No.” I spun the menu to face her. “What do you think I should have?”

Completely straight-faced, she said, “The Blue Balls.”

OMG OMG OMG!!! THIS BOOK!!! THIS BOOK!!!

This is definitly my favorite contemporary YA book IN A LONG TIME. I was expecting to like it, of course, because that blurb is awesome, but I couldn’t quite imagine how IN LOVE I would be with this book. It’s serious. This book? AWESOME!

This is my first book by Jen Wilde and I loved loved loved the writing. The book is told through Tayor and Charlie’s POVs, two of the 3 friends going to SupaCon, and, just like these two characters, their voices are super different. I never had to go back to the beginning of a chapter to know who was talking.

But the most amazing thing about this book? The characters!!! I love these characters, but mostly Taylor. I love her. I see myself in her on some issues, and I see my friends in her a little bit as well. I think she’s one of those characters who everyone will see themselves in a bit, you know? Like Cath from Fangirl? I loved how brave she was, even when she was scared out of her wits, and how good she was. Have I mentioned how much I loved her? Also, she has severe social anxiety, she’s heavier, and she’s on the Autism spectrum. I LOVED TAYLOR!!!!

Then there’s Charlie, and while it took me a little bit more time to warm up to her, I did, because she’s brilliant! Another amazing point of diversity here too 😀 , because Charlie is the daughter of Chinese immigrants, and she’s openly bisexual 😀 . And she has pink hair!!! Sorry, I had to mention that because it IS the cover of this book after all, and it’s giving me some pretty weird ideas of wanting to dye my hair pink?! Crazy, right? Either way, I loved Charlie too, because she has some pretty great development throughout the book, realizing whose opinions really matter to her.

The trio is complete with Jamie. Not gonna lie, when I read the blurb I thought that Jamie would be a girl, which is stupid, because the blurb actually says he’s a GUY! Oh well. JAMIE IS AWESOME!!!!! I shipped him with Taylor so so much! And it was always so clear how much he liked her. And he was just such a great and understanding person, he gave her the time and space to figure herself out, always being there for her anyway. AMAZING!

There are several other smaller characters that are equally amazing and inspiring. I was reading this book and laughing and crying and feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Queens of Geeks talks geeky, nerdy and fandom. It talks about the importance of accepting yourself as you are, because you’ll find people just like you in the process. You’re not alone. This book made me feel like I belong, and it wasn’t even about the fandoms or the fandom life itself… The level of acceptance and friendship that this book has? It’s amazing. Made me fall in love with it.

I honestly don’t know what else to say, except that YOU NEED TO READ IT ASAP! I kind of just want to pick it up again…
