Book Traveling Thursdays: A Book With a Kind Character

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “Tomorrow is World Kindness Day! Choose a book that has a kind character“. I wracked my brains about this one, and decided to go with one of my favorite kind guys from all of the books I ever read, and that is Jem Carstairs, and the book I chose is Clockwork Prince (Cassandra Clare).

Original COver:

I have to admit that when I first looked at this cover, I was a bit dismayed: this is nothing like I imagine my Jem! Still, the cover has grown on me a bit, I just wished they had picked their models slightly better.

Oh wow, look at that! This book has a portuguese, spanish and catalan editions! The Portuguese one is very similar to the original cover, but the colouring is a bit lighter and the contrasts are sharper. The spanish edition is exactly like the original, but the catalan went a different way entirely… is that supposed to be the Mortal Sword? o_O

Favorite COVER(s):

I’ll admit that I think I like the new Infernal Devices covers a bit more than the originals, or maybe it’s a tie… not sure. I like that this one exposes Jem’s passions and his vulnerability. Then I kind of like the slovak edition, i like the mechanic creature in it, it’s captivating.

This week, the worst covers are the Turkish, Polish and Italian ones. The Turkish is just off, the face doesn’t even seem to belong to that body, and who is that supposed to be? Jem? I don’t think so… Then, for the Polish edition, they went for someone I’m assuming is supposed to be Tessa, but this cover would be more fitting of an historical romance than anything else. And finally, the italian… the guy is hot, I’ll give it that, but I don’t like the overall theme, or lack there of it.

I will go down with this ship: Charlotte and Henry (TID)

Ships are a complicated thing, there’s something in that “couple” that you think clicks and even if it doesn’t work out on the long wall, you still think that it was meant to be.

Cassandra Clare’s work is full of shippable couples: almost every character finds themselves in a romantic entanglement that you just can’t have enough of. So the other day, I was reading The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Prince on the bus and it was about time that one of my favorite couples shone: Oh Henry and Lottie, what a fools you both have been!

charlotte and henry Branwell

It’s impossible not to love them, in a time when a woman is deemed unfit to run much about anything, Henry is there to prove that Charlotte is 100 times tougher than he will ever be, and that’s just fine. He loved her all that time and she thought that he had married her out of a debt that his father had to her father?! Well, Henry is right Charlotte, you should know better than that! And Charlotte, who always loved her husband so much mas didn’t dare show it, for the thought that he did not return her feelings… oh silly you!

After years of marriage (how many years I’m actually curious, because they’re both so young), they finally let out their feelings – let out is a nice way to put it, shouted them out of anger is a more accurate description – and fell into each other’s arms. Although, given the news that she had to share with him, I would like to read what each of them thought about their intimate relationship prior to their profession of love for each other, because it’s clear that they had fallen into each other’s arms already without any problems…
