Winter (Marissa Meyer): 10 Reasons Why It Rocked

winter_

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Hi guys! I read Winter in the beginning of January – I know… a long time ago… I read more than 25 books in the meantime… but back to business – in a buddy read with Becca @Shih Tzu Book Reviews. A few days ago we published our discussion of the book, which you can read mine here, and Becca’s here.

I’ve previously reviewed the other 3 books in the series: Cinder, Scarlet and Cress, so I thought I would do something different this time around – because we already know how awesome this book is, right? So I give you 10 reasons why this book rocked :D.

1. SO.MUCH.ACTION

2. A lot of twists

3. Ships. Ships all around

4. Perfect Iko

5. Fairytale like scenes

6. Cresswell (because saying ships isn’t enough)

7. Love conquering all

8. Sassy sassy Kai

9. Very smart Cinder (heart swelling with pride here)

10. The Ending! Perfect!

Our Thoughts on Winter (Marissa Meyer) feat. Becca @Shih Tzu Book Reviews

thoughtswinter

Last month, me and Becca @Shih Tzu Book Reviews did a buddy read of Winter, by Marissa Meyer, and now we’re sharing our thoughts on the book and the conclusion of The Lunar Chronicles. Warning though, there will be SPOILERS.

This was super fun to do!

I loved discussing the book this way :D.

(Becca is in black and I’m the mint 😉 )

Becca: This is so exciting – I’ve never done a readalong before, and this is actually the perfect book for one, because there’s so much to talk about. One thing I noticed in particular while reading it, was when they start the rebellion in the sector – it just reminded me so much of Catching Fire, and the rebellions in the districts. Did you notice that?

Cristina: I DID!!! I was reading it and thinking “man, this sounds so much like THG” :D. I thought it was cool though, the similarities were there, but it wasn’t excessive or anything. I also really liked the role that each of the girls – Cinder, Winter and Scarlet – had on these small rebellions, because it became clear to me (and I hope to anyone) that they truly were a team, and even if Cinder was the one who would rule, she wasn’t the only important one.

Still on the comparisons with The Hunger Games, the rebellions weren’t the only similar thing. The way that the sectors were divided in terms of production was also very much like THG, right?

Becca: YES! I noticed that as well – they were all organised into different productions, like lumber, or coal mining. I like that it’s similar to THG, but it’s not a rip-off. It’s so original and awesome -I’ve even got my brother in reading the series now. He’s halfway through Cinder.

Cristina: We can see a lot of elements of other books and obviously of the fairytales throughout the storyline, but never ever do they feel like a rip-off or like something that has been done a 1000 times. I really loved how Meyer introduced the key moments of each fairytale into the story, for instance with Winter’s “casket” or with Kai giving the “shoe” (in the case, the foot) to Cinder.

On a different note, how did you feel about the characters in this book, especially the new ones?

I thought that this was the book that Kai finally came into his own. While Cinder had grown a lot as a character in Scarlet and Cress already, we only got small glimpses at Kai at those times, and always cornered. Here, when he finally has control, he was awesome.

I also (finally) loved Scarlet. I hadn’t liked her much in books 2 and 3, but here she was badass, and I think that she was finally completely fleshed out too.

I’ll say that Winter and Jacin were my least favorites of the gang, Winter’s craziness at times was a bit too much.

Becca: I absolutely loved Kai in this one – he’s got more control and he knows what’s going on (sort of), Also, I loved his witty comebacks and basically being a sassy little thing a lot of the time. There was a lot of character development from ‘Cinder’ to now, and he has definitely grown as a character.

As for Winter, I have mixed feelings about her. I identify with her in that she has issues but she isn’t useless. She is actually very high-functioning, and I think if there was a modern version of it, with no cyborgs and aliens and whatever, she would be written as having autism. She can function perfectly well, she just sees the world in a different way to everyone around her.

Wolf has been one of my favourites ever since ‘Scarlet’, and I am brimming over with ideas for fluffy fanfics with him and Scarlet, but Thorne is always my ultimate favourite. He’s got so many layers to him, and he’s quite a complex character under the surface, which I like a lot.

What did you think of Captain Strom?

Cristina: You’re right about what you said about Winter, though I admit that all the blood in her visions and her freak outs were a bit weird sometimes for me.

Poor Wolf, seriously! I was reading this book and all the while I was thinking: “damn, Wolf and Scarlet can’t catch a break!”. I think they are definitly the ones who suffered more throughout this whole series. It’s just so unfair that he got changed, though I loved Scarlet reaction to it, or her lack of it.

God, Thorne is perfection! Seriously, the way he’s so nervous around Cress and how he just can’t find the words, was so damn cute :D.

Do you mean Alpha Strom? I thought it was a shame that he ended up dead =/, he could have been of great service. I liked how protective he turned out to be of Scarlet and Winter.

What’s your opinion of Kinney? And is it weird that I ship him with Iko?

(source)

Becca: No, I thought the same thing. I would love to see a spin-off book or series about Iko after the ending of ‘Winter.’ She is very human-like, and I’d like to see how she would possibly be in a relationship or with someone who likes her that way.

What could that be called if it was a book?

Cristina: I have no idea! Meyer likes retellings, but I don’t know what could possible fit in her story… maybe a retelling of Pinocchio?

I’m kind of hopping that we get to see something between them at the epilogue of Stars Above though. By the way, “The Wedding of the Century” that will be coming in Stars Above… for who do you reckon it is?

Becca: I think it’d be too obvious to have the wedding be for Cinder and Kai, so maybe it could be for Cress and Thorne? They’re romantics, so they could have a proper fairytale wedding.

What do you think?

Cristina: I think the only way it can be the wedding of the century is if it IS between Cinder and Kai. I would love to see Cress and Thorne married, for sure, but a shell and a criminal? I don’t see it as really important for everyone, you know? Although, for me, it’s the most important one 😀

Becca: Well, he’s not technically a criminal anymore – he’s been pardoned. But yeah, I guess it probably would be Cinder and Kai – a huge ceremony, broadcast all over.

Which pairing do you love the most?

Cristina: Loads of cameras everywhere!

I’m very partial to Cress and Thorne! So the order would be: Cress+Thorne, Kai+Cinder, Wolf+Scarlet and Winter+Jacin. What about you?

Becca: Cress/Thorne, Wolf/Scarlet, Cinder/Kai, Kinney/Iko, Jacin/Winter. (and then Levana/herself as an afterthought. :))

Cristina: Totally forgot about Iko there! Yeah, I ship her with Kenney, but he wasn’t nice enough to her to trump over Winter and Jacin… eheh

Becca: Oh, and also Thorne/Rampion. He loves that ship like Dean Winchester loves his Impala.

Cristina: OHHHHH, such a good comparison! I I had laugh out loud when I read that, because IT IS SO TRUE!

I admit that I shed a tear when Cinder requested his pardon and when Thorne told Cress about the Rampion :D. I was so happy that he was getting everything he wanted – minus 3 fingers!

Becca: Cress and Thorne are total cutie pies. She’s been fangirling over him for so long, and then they met, and it turned into true love.

That’s what I love about this series – it’s fairytale true love, but it’s realistic as well. They don’t just fall in love at first sight, and they have their own relationship difficulties, and it’s all so amazing to read about.

Cristina:  That’s what I loved more about the third book, Cress. I think that Thorne and Cress’ relationship is the one we actually see all the steps of, and maybe that’s why it’s my favorite. I loved when they were in the desert and he was blind and he trusted her completely, and how we can see his feelings growing step by step, and her feelings becoming more real than anything she thought possible.

Becca: If the Lunar Chronicles became a tv show (I think it’d work better as a show than a movie, because there’s so much depth to it) who do you think could play the different characters?

I think Godfrey Gao would make an excellent Kai tbh.

Cristina: Oh wow… I think it would work better as a TV show as well, mainly because there are so many central characters. Now, the actors is a lot harder… I love Godfrey Gao, but I think he looks a bit on the older side to play a believable Kai.

Maybe Christopher Larkin or Mario Maurer as Kai. There’s one person I’ve always pictured in my mind as Sybil Mira, and that is Ruth Negga from Agents of SHIELD. I think the characters reminded me too much of Raina.

Amandla Stenberg would be perfect as Winter. Holland Roden seems to be a popular choice for Scarlet. I never saw her act, but she has the looks. AnnaSophia Robb might work as Cress, she’s very tiny. Or maybe Sierra McCormick?

No idea about anyone else…

Becca: I think Christopher Larkin would make a great Kai actually – he’s a great actor, and he could play the role well.

I’d love Emma Stone to be the voice of Iko – that’d be so cool. She’s got an enthusiasm that would bring Iko the life she has in the books.

Which book of the whole series is your favourite/least favourite? I love ‘Scarlet‘ because Wolf and Scar are my OTP, but I found ‘Winter’ to drag by a little.

Cristina: Emma Stone to voice Iko could be hilarious. But what about when she gained a body?

I think Cinder was my least favorite actually. I was never a big fan of the Cinderella story, and with only Cinder and Kai in the first book, the plot drags a bit, especially when Pearl and Adri are concerned… I hate them.

I loved Winter, and it will probably rate higher because it had a lot more action, but I think that my favorite is still Cress, mainly because I love Cress and Thorne, together and apart, and that book was such a delight in terms of these 2 characters.

You felt that Winter dragged? I didn’t really feel it to be honest.I was actually surprised by the amount of plot twists that the book had.

Becca: It just felt way too long for me – maybe that’s just me being nitpicky, I don’t know.

Have you read any of the in-between stories like ‘Glitches?’ I read Glitches last year, and I loved it. It was a little peek into Cinder’s past, and I loved seeing the start of her relationship with Peony (I miss Peony…)

Cristina: Yeah, at 800 pages it WAS long! lol

I haven’t read it yet, though I have it – my edition of Cinder has Glitches at the end, but at the time I didn’t read it… I think I’ll wait for Stars Above to read all of them.

Becca: I really want to read ‘The Little Android‘ – I might read it once I finish my current book as a filler between larger ones. Something light and fluffy to give me an endorphin boost.

Cristina: is that one about Iko? I love Iko! 😀

(source)

Becca: She just wants to be…part of your world! I love Iko, she’s literally the best part of the whole series even when she’s just the Rampion without a body. Sometimes you forget she’s even an android/robot because she has such human characteristics.

Cristina: YES! Unless she was being attacked and destroyed, I always thought of her as human. Wait, you just put a thought in my head… “part of your world”? OMG! Is she The Little Mermaid? 😛

Becca: Did you not get that? Haha, yeah she’s meant to be the little mermaid. Only she’s the little android instead. I thought that was obvious, but maybe not.

Cristina: I never even considered it. Sure, some things did cross my minds, but her personality is so not like Ariel, that I blocked it out. WOOW!!! I love that!

I love how Marissa Meyer just tangled all these stories like it was nothing! 😀 WOW. Any more element that I missed? 😛

Becca: What rating out of five would you give ‘Winter?’ I’d rate it a four, because it was great, but wasn’t fangirl-worthy. It didn’t give me that squishy, fluffy, giggly feeling that a totally awesome book does.

Cristina: Oh, I kind of get that, I think that the size of the book probably didn’t help in all those feelings, right?

For me it was still very much a 5 stars rating. I think it managed to tie all the loose ends, and it left me satisfied :D.

And this was out talk about Winter by Marissa Meyer, the conclusion to The Lunar Chronicles. Be sure to check out Becca’s blog for our thoughts post, as well as her review of Winter, that should be coming along in the next few days. Also, my own review of Winter will also be coming along the next few days, so stay tuned :D.

Top Ten Tuesday: Memorable First Kisses

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Valentine’s Day is next week…let’s do a Valentine’s Day themed freebie! Top Ten Books That Would Make Great Valentine’s Day Reads (or anti-Valentine’s day reads), Top Ten OTPs, Top 10 fictional crushes, top ten great love declarations in fiction, swoony quotes from books etc. Get creative!

This is getting harder and harder to find themes… I decided to go ahead and to Memorable First Kisses! 😀

1. Ron and Hermione – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I don’t think I could start this list any other way. Ron and Hermione’s first kiss is epic and totally memorable. The book one, ok?

“There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.”

2. Cath and Levi – Fangirl

I just loved their first kiss (and every single one of the others, because they’re adorable!).

“He nudged his nose against hers, and their mouths fell sleepily together, already soft and open.”

 (source)

3. Simon and Baz – Carry On

Well, given that Cath is above, it’s only fair that Simon and Baz epic first kiss follows. I was literally holding my breath on that scene. I actually had to stop and sit down on the subway bench to read it properly. And yeah, I had people waiting for me 😛

“He shakes his head, and he’s saying something, and I think I might kiss him. Because I’ve never kissed anyone before. (I was afraid I might bite.) And I’ve never wanted to kiss anyone but him. (I won’t bite. I won’t hurt him.) I just want to kiss him, then go.

“Simon…,” I say.

And then he kisses me.”

4. Thorne and Cress – Cress

I ship these two so hard, and their first kiss was just the most adorable thing ever.

“I guess it’s time.”

While Cress’s thoughts continued to churn through the horrible things that could happen to her, she felt herself being suddenly spun around and dipped backward, a supportive arm scooping beneath her back. She yelped and caught herself on Thorne’s shoulder.

Then he was kissing her.”

                      (source)

5. Caroline and Simon – Wallbanger

I admit that I’m a fan of angry first kisses, and Simon and Caroline’s first kiss was sort of perfect in that way.

“”Why are you such a manwhoring asshole?” I asked, my face inches from his.

“Why are you such a cockblocking priss?” he asked, and when I opened my mouth to tell him exactly what I though, the fucker kissed me.

Kissed me.

Placed his lips on mine and kissed me. Under the moon and the stars, with the sounds of the waves crashing and the crickets cricketing.”

6. Magnus and Alec – The Mortal Instruments

This technically isn’t in any of the books, but it is on Cassie’s site, so I’m gonna roll with it, you can read the whole thing here: Kissed: Magnus and Alec’s First Kiss.

“Magnus’ finger was under his chin, tilting his face up, and then they were kissing. Alec heard a small hitching gasp come from his own throat and then their mouths were pressed together with a sort of controlled urgency. Magnus, Alec thought dazedly, really knew what he was doing. His lips were soft, and he parted Alec’s expertly, exploring his mouth: a symphony of lips, teeth, tongue, every movement waking up a nerve ending Alec had never known he had.”

7. Rowan and Aelin – Queen of Shadows

This should come to no surprise. Rowan and Aelin are definitly one of my favorite ships, and their first kiss was awesome… come on… we waited a long time for it! It was full of tension and I loved that it was Aelin who kissed him :D.

“Her finger shook as she brushed them against his mouth, and his control shredded apart right there.

“What are you waiting for?” he said, the words near guttural.

“Bastard,” she murmured, and kissed him.

Her mouth was soft and warm, and he bit back a groan. His body went still — his entire world went still — at that whisper of a kiss, the answer to a question he’d asked for centuries. He realized he was staring only when she withdrew slightly. His fingers tightened at her waist.

“Again,” he breathed.”                                                                                            (source)

8. Shahrzad and Khalid – The Wrath and the Dawn

The first kiss between Shazi and Khalid is so damn important! Yep, they had been married for a while and done a lot in the time, but not kissing, that was special.

““What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.

“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.

“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”

The bow and arrow clattered to the ground as he brought his mouth to hers.

And there was no turning back.”

9. Penryn and Raffe – Angelfall

I ship Penryn and Raffe with all force, so when she made a move and kissed him, I was thrilled, even if he says the worst thing right after it. But come one, did we really believe Raffe at that point? Not a chance!

“I place my hand on his cheek. It’s warm and pleasant. Maybe too pleasant. When his eyes don’t open, I tentatively touch my lips to his.

At first, I get no response and I consider backing off.

Then, his kiss turns hungry.

It is not the gentle kiss of a couple on a first date, nor is it the kiss of a man driven by simple lust. He kisses me with the desperation of a dying man who believes the magic of eternal life is in this kiss.”

                                                                                                                                             (source)

10. Eden and Tyler – Did I Mention I Love You?

After butting heads for half the book, Eden and Tyler finally find some common ground in their step-sibling relationship… yeah, it’s just not what it was supposed to be! They kiss, and then kiss again, and then there’s a huge headache for both of them, because being in love with someone you shouldn’t is not easy.

“His words have just left his lips when I reach out for him, grasping his face in my hands and feeling the warmth of his skin. I slam my lips into his, overwhelmed by the sensation as my eyelids flutter closed and a deafening silence consumes us. It’s agonizing the way my heart thuds against my chest, but exhilarating the way his lips feel against mine.”

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books I Read in 2015

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Top Ten Best Books I Read In 2015 (you can do it by only 2015 releases,  overall , by genre (top ten fantasy books I read in 2015), etc. however you choose to make your BEST list)

So, here we go… I’m choosing my 10 favorite books of this year… this is gonna be tough… But here we go, in no particular order, 10 books that made me super happy and glad that I picked them up this year… I would have a lot more in the list, but I didn’t want to repeat authors either…

I’ll do this in graphic form, because I talked of these books enough times to not have to repeat the reasons why I love them.

Slide1 Slide2Slide3

Cress (Marissa Meyer)

cress

Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker; unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! I’m not freaking out!!! THIS BOOK IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!

I’ve told you before which is my favorite Disney movie, right? No?! I’ll give you a hint… she’s blond and has a really long hair… Yep, I LOVE TANGLED! And this book gave me all those Tangled feelings! *sigh*

cress_3

I’ll keep this mostly short and I apologize before hand if I drop any SPOILERS (sorry!!!). I loved Cress, so far it’s my favorite book of the series, and that’s mostly because I loved Cress as a character. She’s so cute and funny and I love the way she sees the world… her humongous crush for Captain Carswell Thorne doesn’t hurt either! – yeah Girl, I’m with you on that one…

cress_4

(who doesn’t?!)

My heart broke a little when all of Cress’s story was told… but I loved Cress and Thorne together, how they got to know each other and fall in love, although Cress was a lot faster than Thorne, lol, he just really doesn’t know what he’s doing.

cress_2

Did I mention that I love Cinder? Cinder kicked ass on this book, she became a true leader. And I absolutely adored how she stepped up for Wolf and tried to keep him sane. And Cinder and Kai *swoon* are so damn cute together 😀 .

About Wolf… OMG, my heart was breaking for Wolf! The guy was looking at Scarlet’s chair, holding a can of tomatoes and sniffing her bed… he was so damn broken :(, I just wanted to reach him and tell him that everything would work out. Scarlet, oh poor Scarlet, this book was no good for either of them…

cress_1

Winter is crazy! Not much more to say, right? And Jacin… well, the jury is still out on that one.

IKO IS MY FAVORITE!!! (after Cress, Cress is special). Iko is just a riot, she’s so damn funny and inappropriate :D.

This book was action packed, funny, unpredictable, funny, swoon worthy, funny – yeah, I said funny 3 times – and I loved it so so much. I want the gang to be together, all of them. I want Cinder and Kai together, I want Iko’s body whole again, I want Cress and Thorne to be in absolute bliss, and I want him to have his sight back, and I need to have Wolf and Scarlet back together, because they are absolutely miserable apart.

cress_5

Sorry for abusing Cress/Thorne quotes, but I love them. They’re the cutest. I ship it like crazy…

The Book Courtship Tag

courtshiptag

Hello, and welcome back to another book tag. This time I’m doing The Book Courtship Tag, that has been around for a while. I was tagged by Travelling in My Bookcase, thank you so much. People, go check out her blog! The Book Courtship Tag which was originally created by LovelyLikeLaura.

Phase 1 – Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover?

I bought Love in the Time of Global Warming (Francesca Lia Block) 95% because of its gorgeous cover. Go on, have a look at it. Isn’t it just amazing? Unfortunately I had a few problem with the book itself, but the cover is just gorgeous.

Phase 2 – First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary?

I bought The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion totally because of the summary!

Meet Don Tillman. Don is getting married. He just doesn’t know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. One thing he already knows, though, is that it’s not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not.

Phase 3 – Sweet Talk: A book with great writing?

Renee Ahdieh is a genius, and The Wrath and the Dawn has the most amazing writing.

If you haven’t read it yet, first of, how is it possible? And then, go and pick it up now!

Phase 4 – First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?

Here I have to go with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. When I read it I wasn’t as heavily into reading as I am right now, but City of Bones made me go out and get the next 2 books, and then the 3 others, and then The Infernal Devices… you get it, right?

Phase 5 – Late Night Phone Calls: A book that kept you up all night?

I’ve been kept late a few times lately, but the last one was More Than Once by Elizabeth Briggs.

Lately I’ve been staying late to read on Fridays… and when I say late is “it’s almost morning” kind of late.

Phase 6 – Always on my mind: A book you could not stop thinking about?

OMG, Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. BIGGEST BOOK HANGOVER EVER!!! Lol. I read this book in one night – so it could totally have fitted on the previous slot – and afterwards I could not stop thinking about it. I wanted more. I needed more Warner and Juliette. I would go back to open the book and read random chapters. I had a problem. I don’t have it now because the book is physically very far away from me.

Phase 7 – Getting Physical: A book which you love the way it feels?

I love running my hands through all my books… I might have a problem… 😛 Now, I’ll choose a very recent one: Cress by Marissa Meyer. I just love my book, and the embossing on the lettering. The Square Fish editions are just so gorgeous and I’m so glad that I decided to get these ones – even if now I have to wait one year for a physical copy of Winter.

Phase 8 – Meeting the parents: A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?

I would like everyone to read Modern Romance: An Investigation by Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg. I chose a non-fiction one on purpose, because I’m sure most of my family wouldn’t want to read fantasy… And this book is just amazing and it blew my mind. I think everyone should read it… and I mean: EVERYONE!

Phase 9 – Thinking about the future: A book or series you know you will re read many times in the future?

Hmmm, so many… but… Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell… actually, I’m thinking that I might pick it up this month if I can get through all of my TBR on time 🙂 . Reading this one on Christmas time would be the most perfect thing.

Phase 10 – Share the love: Who do you tag?

I will tag… EVERYONE!!! This tag has been around for a long time, so you probably have done it already, but if you haven’t, and you want to, consider yourself tagged, yeah?!

November TBR

november_tbr

Hello, hello. It took me a couple of days to organize what it is that I’m attacking this month, but I got it now. 😀 The main goal this month in terms of reading will be keep up with my ARCs for this month, and finish the 2 series that I’m in the middle of: The Lunar Chronicles and Penryn & the End of Days.

I’ll warn you before hand, this is a very ambitious TBR.

nov_tbr_1

1. The Last One by Tawdra Kandle – This book is already out – when I was approved for it, it was already passed its publication date. Because of that I want to get to it, but it won’t be my priority.

2. Nirvana by J.R. Stewart – oh man, I’m so scared of picking up this book. This was an auto-approval from netgalley – I didn’t request it – and I do have the revised version, but still, the synopsis doesn’t make me want to jump into it.

3. Something in the Air by Marie Landry – This seems like a fun and easy read, and I’ll read it soon because it comes out in 9 days.

4. Right Where You Are by L.E. Bross – I actually finished this one of at 3 a.m. the night before last (that’s why it isn’t on my October wrap-up). Expect a review this week, and I really liked it – so so so HOT!

5. Crystallum by Laney McMann – This book comes out at the end of November and I’m intrigued by it.

6. Did I Mention I Love You? by Estelle Maskame – I’m really excited for this one. I hope I have time for it, given that publication date is December 1st.

nov_tbr_2

7. World After by Susan Ee – I actually already started this book, after reading (and loving) Angelfall, I just had to keep going with this series as soon as possible. I’m about 20% in, and I need Raffe… 20% of the book without him is too much (and I’m sure Penryn agrees with me).

8. End of Days by Susan Ee – Read the above.

9. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer – I read Cinder last month, and I was supposed to read Scarlet too, but somehow I just wasn’t in the mood. But with the last installment of this series coming out this month, I really want to get to it minimally spoiled.

10. Cress by Marissa Meyer – Same as above.

11. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell – I got my hands on this book very very recently and with all the raving reviews coming out, I have to get to it soon. I honestly don’t know if it will happen this month, because let’s face it, this is a huge TBR, but I really want to at least start it…

Ufff, I know this is a HUGE TBR, but I really need to get through most of these 😀 . At the very least I want to read all my ARCs and World After and End of Days, even if I have to leave The Lunar Chronicles for next month, but I’m hoping that that won’t be necessary…

Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Fall TBR

Hello, it’s TUESDAY!!!! Which means it’s Top Ten Tuesday time, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR, and that is just amazing. So let’s get started…

Top Ten Tuesday

1. The Lunar Chronicles (Marissa Meyer)

I already have the first 3 books, Cinder, Scarlet and Cress, and I fully intent to read it next month 😉 .

2. The Selection Series (Kiera Cass)

I also already have the first trilogy, The Selection, The Elite and The One (and I might even consider reading The Heir…), so I’ll definitely be reading it this fall.

3. Carry On (Rainbow Rowell)

I’m quite excited to read this one 😀 ! (and I’m secretly hoping for an epilogue or something Cath/Levi related).

4. Everything, Everything (Nicola Yoon)

I’ve read so many wonderful things about this book that it is definitely in my fall TBR.

5. The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak (Brian Katcher)

I’ve been quite excited about this one lately, and it’s burning a hole in my amazon shopping cart… it will have to come home to me soon… very soon, because it sound so so amazing.

6. Me Before You (Jojo Moyes)

After a chat on twitter, I think that I’ll be reading this book soon, so yeah, it’s on my fall TBR

7. Angelfall (Susan Ee)

I bought this book super cheap for my kindle, and I’m so so excited, because I want to get into this trilogy. This one is reserved for my October trip to South Korea and Japan – the advantaged of an e-reader, right?

8. Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Laini Taylor)

Same as Angelfall, I bought this book for my kindle, because it was so damn cheap and I’ve been wanting it for a long long time. Also, it will be read on the same trip as the one above 😉 .

9. The Princess Bride (William Goldman)

I want to read this one bad! I hope I make it during the fall, otherwise, it will be a winter thing.

10. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Ransom Riggs)

I think that this might be the perfect Halloween book, for some reason. So I might give it a go around then. I do want to read the whole trilogy, but it’s unlikely that I’ll have time for all of it this fall, so I’ll be happy if I manage to read this one.

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read

Oh wow, this week’s theme is hard… “Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read“! I find it hard because after a week of wracking my brain, I realized that I only read 2 fairytale retellings, and one of them I can’t even see the similarities… (Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish).

Top Ten Tuesday

Books I’ve Read:

1. A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas – As we all should know by now, ACOTAR is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it’s perfect!

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – Apparently this started out because of Cinderella… I don’t exactly see anything in common, but hey, if it inspired Sarah J. Maas to write this masterpiece, I’m down!

3. Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block – OK, this is not exactly a Fairytale retelling, but it’s a Odyssey‘s retelling, and I think that’s pretty damn close.

Books I want to Read:

4. Cinder by Marissa Meyer – Book 1 of The Lunar Chronicles is a Cinderella retelling. I really have to start reading these.

5. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer – The second book of the series is based on the Red Riding Hood story.

6. Cress by Marissa Meyer – The third instalment is a Rapunzel retelling.

7. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh –  This book is on my TBR for this month, and AMAZON has already let me know that it is on it’s way, though it won’t arrive until Friday. So, this book is inspired on A Thousand and One Nights.

8. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler – This is a loose retelling of The Little Mermaid that came out recently, and I want to find the time to read it.

9. Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell – This seems like an interesting book, this is yet another retelling of Cinderella.

10. A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston – This is a retelling of  A Thousand and One Nights. But the cover is gorgeous and it sound intriguing, so it’s going on my TBR.
