Musical Mondays: The Ballad of Russell and Julie by Doctor Who Cast

I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, though I have to admit that I’ve been slacking and I have quite a few episodes to watch. Still, the 10th Doctor era was my favorite, and I thought I would share something that the cast and crew did to honor Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, performed by David Tennant, Catherine Tate and John Barrowman. Enjoy!

Julie and Russell sat one night.
Russell sparked up a Marlboro Light.
Julie’s eyes were all ablaze,
As Russell tried to shun her gaze.
He knew the look, he knew the score;
It seemed more manic than before.
Russell cringed in fear and dread
As Julie pulled him near and said:

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
I’ve had a really good idea.
We’ll re-vamp, make more camp
A sci-fi show from yester-year.
I’ve had banter with Tranter.
Your written word will be hailed in the ming mong mantra.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

But he said…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
You’re asking far too much of me.
I’m harassed, embarrassed;
I’ve watched the show since I was three.
Don’t choose me, don’t use me,
My mother sent a note to say you must excuse me.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

So she said…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
Make a brand new Doctor Who.
We’ve got Chris in, all’s missing
Is a sidekick and an all-Welsh crew.
It’s not silly to ask Billie.
We’ll film in every quarry from here to Caerphilly.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

Ooh, then he said…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
The pressure of the BBC.
I must e-mail some young male
To alleviate the stress on me.
I can’t block out, please lock out,
Images of Johnny B getting his cock out.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

She replied…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
Phil okayed my offer to produce.
We’ll get Trac to take flack
When he lets his raging temper loose.
My decision to use your vision
Will make the show the best thing on the television.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

And he squawked…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
Chris is giving up his role.
No Time Lord? Oh good Lord,
How we’re gonna fill this role?
It’s too complex, we’re all wrecks.
My brain is overflowing with a bloody Dalek.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

She excitedly said…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
We’ll get another Time Lord in.
Don’t sweat it, you can’t let it
Make you sad and maudlin.
It’s not over, and moreover,
We’ll get the lovely fellow in from Casanova.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

And he yelled…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
I really think that I can’t cope.
More re-writes, no respite-
I think I’ve given up all hope.
It’ll get canned, it’ll be panned.
Lou says there’s no costumes in the whole of England.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

Then she proclaimed…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
Martha Jones is Freema Agyeman.
We’ll bring back Captain Jack
To fight against the Cybermen.
We’ll cast a great Master,
He can plunge the planet into global disaster.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

And he screamed…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
You’ve cast Australia’s pop princess.
It’s madness, my sadness
Will make this episode a mess.
My panic is manic-
The uproar when I kill her off on the Titanic!
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

And she expelled…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
The Doctor needs a brand new mate.
Don’t linger, go ginger.
I’m gonna bring back Catherine Tate.
I wanna, you’re gonna,
Reunite the Doctor with the fabulous Donna.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

He punctuated…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
I’ve got obsessed with E4’s Skins.
Writer’s block. Please don’t mock,
It takes my mind off other things.
It’s so lame,
I must blame dirty thoughts I’m having about Midshipman Frame.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

Excitedly she said…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
To film abroad will get my vote.
I promise Ed Thomas can’t bring Ancient Rome to Upper Boat.
It’s D-Day on Pompeii;
The forums will be buzzing on Outpost Gallifrey.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

And he roared…

I can’t do it!
I can’t do it!
The studio in Rome’s ablaze.
On fire, it’s dire-
How the hell are you not phased?
It’s mental. Be gentle.
They say the cause of fire was a Berkley Menthol.
I can’t do it!
I can’t do it tonight!

So she roared…

Let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
We’ve got kids back behind settees.
Our mission, ambition,
Was a show for all the families.
we should try as our goodbye
A hassle-free excursion to sunny Dubai.
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight!

But he shouted…

Oh, let’s do it!
Let’s do it!
I feel like I’ve been set free.
I won’t sweat it, now Moffat
Is taking up the reins from me.
I can’t wait, it’s just great-
I’ve got a cracking way for Dave to regenerate.
Let’s do it!
let’s do it tonight!

Guess what?

They did it!
They did it!
They opened up the TARDIS door.
They’re terrific, prolific.
Made it better than it was before!
A ‘thank you’ from your crew.
We crown you both the King and Queen of Doctor Who.
You did it!
You did it tonight!

Wandering About: London (2013)

wandering about

Back in 2013 I want to London for a week. In a stroke of luck, I was able to string a conference and the Doctor Who 50th anniversary in a single week. It was pretty cool how that worked out. For my first 2 days in London I attended a conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of my field of research, and I loved it, because being that kind of celebration, we had really big wigs in there :D.

If you were following me back in 2013 – a.k.a, the first year of my blog – you might know that I actually posted everyday about the trip. You can check it out here:

So today, I’m just posting my favorite pictures of this trip :), but check out the links above for a blow by blow of the trip.

If you don’t know by now, London is my favorite place on Earth. Yeah, it’s cold and wet and grey and I love it. I never feel more at home as I do when I’m wandering through London. I’ve been there a few times since I was 11 yo, and it’s always amazing and I always miss it.

I also went for the first time to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, and I loved it. I’ve been there since, but the place is totally worth it, it’s truly magical.

And finally I went to the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary, and that was totally bonkers. I never went to a con or anything like that, so this was different. I watched the 50th Anniversary Special Episode there, and wow, that was definitly something!

Ten and Donna will be back in the TARDIS! (hold on… it’s an audio adventure)

I literally squeaked when I read that David Tennant and Catherine Tate would be back to Doctor Who, I was already running wild scenarios in my head and thinking that now I really had to catch up to the new episodes – all while my browser decided to open said page – then the news opened and I can’t lie, I was a bit disappointed. Still, it’s a great news and this just might be the adventure that pushes me to start with the audio stories from DW from Big Finish. Ten and Donna are probably my favorite pairing ever in the history of Doctor Who, so seeing them together again is always amazing.

Doctor Who: BBC (finally) confirms Jenna Coleman’s exit

After more than a year of endless rumours, BBC has finally confirmed that Clara Oswald will be leaving the Time Lord during this 9th season, although the when, why and how are still in the air.

All I can say is: FINALLY! I really like Jenna Coleman, and I like Clara well enough – although not my favorite companion, I still liked her better than Amy – but it was about damn time for her to leave the show. Last season was way too focused on her and not enough on The Doctor, and I want to see Capaldi with a different kind of companion. Please, can they give us a male companion now?

Musical Connections #2

Hello! I introduced this topic last week, and I liked it, so I’ll keep with it. You know how sometimes you make a musical association in your head?! And then you simply can’t listen to that particular music without thinking of that other thing, whether it was a moment in your life, a game played, a video watched, show, movie, whatever something that was not the music original design. That’s what I’ll share here!

I feel like this one will be mighty obvious to all Doctor Who fans out there… this week’s music is I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers. Have you made the connection yet?! I simply can’t listen to this music without seeing David Tennant marching and singing to this song…

You do know what I’m talking about, right? When David Tennant was leaving the show in 2010, the crew and actors and everyone involved in the show came together for a farewell video, and this was the result:

Everytime I listen to this music on the radio, the street, in a movie,…, my head goes to David Tennant (and how I miss my Doctor).

Doctor Who: River Song will return for Christmas Special

BBC has announced today that Alex Kingston will be back as River Song for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special.

“To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humour and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September? Why not!” – Alex Kingston

“Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who – and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song. The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time.” – Steven Moffat

I’m both excited and terrified about this return. For one hand, I love River and I LOVE Alex Kingston, and I think that she might have even better chemistry with Peter Capaldi than she had with Matt Smith. I really think that River and the 12th Doctor might complement each other very well. On the other hand, this is a huge deal and I’m a bit afraid that Steven Moffat might screw up along the way (I’m not coy about the fact that I don’t really like Steven Moffat’s direction to the show).

Either way, this is an exciting piece of news and something to look forward to.

Doctor Who Series 9 Trailer #2

BBC just released the second trailer for the new Doctor Who season, and it’s looking quite amazing – I’m very excited for this one. We got a whole lot of monster – eyes in the hands is creepy! – and more Clara and more Doctor and more Maisie Williams (in a different time period?! Is she a Time Lady?!). Check it out below.

Remember, the new series starts September 19th.

Doctor Who: Premiere date and Trailer

Doctor Who season 9 has a date! It will be back September 19! And there’s a trailer (see below).

The trailer looks so GOOD! I have to admit that season 8, with its highs and lows, didn’t quite do it for me, which has absolutely nothing to do with Capaldi, who I love as the Doctor, do much so, that I’m yet to watch the Christmas Special (yeah, I know, shame on me!).

So it appears that Missy will be back, which can be good (although, again, I was not a big fan on season 8). Clara will also be back. And Maisie Williams!!!! Maisie is probably the thing I’m most excited about… 😀

Doctor Who Christmas Special

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas episode just got a title: Last Christmas.

The special episode, starring Peter Capaldi, Jenna Louise Coleman and Nick Frost as Santa Claus, will have the Doctor and Clara trapped at an Arctic base with terrifying slimy-looking creatures.

The title of the DW episode just fueled even more the rumours of Coleman’s eminent departure, but would they really just lay it all in the title?! I’m torned, I’m liking Clara this season (though I still have the last 2 episodes to go), but I think the show is in dire need of some fresh blood, and if it’s a male companion, all the better.
