The Book Fangirling Blog Award

blogaward_2

Hey guys :). How you doing? Today I’m doing the The Book Fangirling Blog Award, and I was nominated by Emma @Em Does Book Reviews, Megan @Meganqm1 and Carrianne @Carrianne’s Cuppa n’ Critiques. This is my second time doing this award, you can check the other post here.

The Rules:

  • Create a post to accept your award
  • Add the blog award button to your blog
  • Answer the questions I have set below
  • Nominate between 5-10 book bloggers who you think deserve this award
  • Come up with your own 5 questions for your nominees (at least one question about fangirling)

Emma @Em Does Book Reviews Questions:

1. Who do you normally fangirl with? In real life or over the internet?

This is easy. I fangirl with Kat @Life and Other Disasters and Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much. I do it like all the time. We have opened chats on every social media just for fangirling with each other. 😀

2. Who was your first ‘ship’?

Haruka and Michiru from Sailor Moon, for sure. I mean, I was shipping other people by then, such as Usagi and Mamoru, or Jean Grey and Scott Summers from X-Men… but Haruka and Michiru are OTP!

3. Have you ever read or written fanfiction about a book you loved?

I’ve read a few chapter of Shatter Me fanfic, but mostly one shots. Somehow I have a lot of trouble connecting to fanfic. Then I read Wallbanger and later found out that it was initially fanfic from Twilight, so I’m guessing that it happens sometimes.

4. What was the last book/character/ship you fangirled over?

Oh, I fangirl all the time about a lot of books, characters and ships. But lately I’ve talked a lot about Jamie and Wes from Him and Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy.

5. If you could be flatmates with one fictional character (no romance!) which character would you choose to live with?

I wouldn’t mind being flatmates with Magnus Bane, because he’s glorious, and I would always have coffee :D!!!!

Megan @Meganqm1 Questions:

1. What is your favourite book of all time?

Oh boy… that’s a tough question! I’ll say one of my favorite books of this year (is that good enough?!). Carry On by Rainbow Rowell… Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff… Wallbanger by Alice Clayton… Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy…

2. What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?

I finished Love on the Ledge by Zoraida Córdova just yesterday evening, and I really enjoyed it. It’s not my favorite NA book, but it was a good story, and the romance was awesome.

3. Do you like audio books?

It really depends. I liked a few audio non-fiction books, for fiction it really depends on the narrator.

4. Post a photo of describe your book situation at home?

  NLmAF8fi  SrOfX9RC

5. Least favourite book?

One of the worst books I read last year was Nirvana by J.R. Stewart… just… NO!

Carrianne @Carrianne’s Cuppa n’ Critiques Questions:

1. If you could steal a character’s clothes, whose would you steal?

I think I wouldn’t mind having Emma Carstairs wardrobe. I like the idea of all the vintage clothes (and also all the gear).

2. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

No no no no no… sorry, can’t!

3. What trope would you like to see more in books?

Hmmm, isn’t it the definition of trope something you see a lot?! Either way, I’m a sucker for the best friends to romance trope, and the enemies to lovers one too… I love those!!! 😀 So, more of that would be always ok 😉 .

4. Favorite bookish loot? If you don’t have any, then favorite book cover?

I mean… look at them!

DSC04549

5. Which scene would you like to be a part of and in what book?

Anything Shadowhunters related. I just love the world!

Bookish Girls BFFs

bookishgirlsbffs

After doing the girl-guy and guy-guy version of bookish friendships, it was time to highlight some good girls BFFs in books. While trying to find some great friendships, I came to the conclusion that good girls BFFs are rarer to find in books than guys BFFs. Have you noticed that? Girls tend to start a book as best friends, but more often than not, something happens to change that status… it’s weird, and I fell sad about that. Either way, here are some good ones.

1. Cinder & Iko – The Lunar Chronicles

Am I cheating here because Iko is an android? Hmmm, I don’t think so! She’s very much a human in all that matters, and she and Cinder are awesome together.

(source)

2. Shazi & Despina – The Wrath & The Dawn

These two biker like hell, but ultimately they trust each other and have each other’s backs.

3. Sky & Six – Hopeless

Even while apart, Sky and Six went out of their way to stay close. I love how non-judgmental their relationship is, and that’s why they’re one of my favorites BFFs ever!

4. Aelin & Lysandra – Queen of Shadows

One of the best things introduced in QoS was the amazing friendship between these two strong fierce warriors. I can’t wait for book 5 :D.

(source)

5. Lizzie & Charlotte – The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet

I loved them on the show, I loved them even more on the book. They’re kind of perfect 😀 – and way better than the original friendship in Jane Austen’s book.

6. Beth & Jennifer – Attachments

Their emails are hilarious. There isn’t a single doubt that these two ladies are BFFs!

7. Cath & Reagan – Fangirl

This friendship took a while to develop, but ultimately the two very different roommates gave in and entered an unlike beautiful friendship.

(source)

I admit that I’m a bit depressed after writing this post. I need to read more books about awesome girls BFFs, without the drama of the book butting in said friendship… recommendations?!

Top Ten Tuesday: Memorable First Kisses

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Valentine’s Day is next week…let’s do a Valentine’s Day themed freebie! Top Ten Books That Would Make Great Valentine’s Day Reads (or anti-Valentine’s day reads), Top Ten OTPs, Top 10 fictional crushes, top ten great love declarations in fiction, swoony quotes from books etc. Get creative!

This is getting harder and harder to find themes… I decided to go ahead and to Memorable First Kisses! 😀

1. Ron and Hermione – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I don’t think I could start this list any other way. Ron and Hermione’s first kiss is epic and totally memorable. The book one, ok?

“There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.”

 (source)

2. Cath and Levi – Fangirl

I just loved their first kiss (and every single one of the others, because they’re adorable!).

“He nudged his nose against hers, and their mouths fell sleepily together, already soft and open.”

 (source)

3. Simon and Baz – Carry On

Well, given that Cath is above, it’s only fair that Simon and Baz epic first kiss follows. I was literally holding my breath on that scene. I actually had to stop and sit down on the subway bench to read it properly. And yeah, I had people waiting for me 😛

“He shakes his head, and he’s saying something, and I think I might kiss him. Because I’ve never kissed anyone before. (I was afraid I might bite.) And I’ve never wanted to kiss anyone but him. (I won’t bite. I won’t hurt him.) I just want to kiss him, then go.

“Simon…,” I say.

And then he kisses me.”

(source)

4. Thorne and Cress – Cress

I ship these two so hard, and their first kiss was just the most adorable thing ever.

“I guess it’s time.”

While Cress’s thoughts continued to churn through the horrible things that could happen to her, she felt herself being suddenly spun around and dipped backward, a supportive arm scooping beneath her back. She yelped and caught herself on Thorne’s shoulder.

Then he was kissing her.”

                      (source)

5. Caroline and Simon – Wallbanger

I admit that I’m a fan of angry first kisses, and Simon and Caroline’s first kiss was sort of perfect in that way.

“”Why are you such a manwhoring asshole?” I asked, my face inches from his.

“Why are you such a cockblocking priss?” he asked, and when I opened my mouth to tell him exactly what I though, the fucker kissed me.

Kissed me.

Placed his lips on mine and kissed me. Under the moon and the stars, with the sounds of the waves crashing and the crickets cricketing.”

6. Magnus and Alec – The Mortal Instruments

This technically isn’t in any of the books, but it is on Cassie’s site, so I’m gonna roll with it, you can read the whole thing here: Kissed: Magnus and Alec’s First Kiss.

“Magnus’ finger was under his chin, tilting his face up, and then they were kissing. Alec heard a small hitching gasp come from his own throat and then their mouths were pressed together with a sort of controlled urgency. Magnus, Alec thought dazedly, really knew what he was doing. His lips were soft, and he parted Alec’s expertly, exploring his mouth: a symphony of lips, teeth, tongue, every movement waking up a nerve ending Alec had never known he had.”

(source)

7. Rowan and Aelin – Queen of Shadows

This should come to no surprise. Rowan and Aelin are definitly one of my favorite ships, and their first kiss was awesome… come on… we waited a long time for it! It was full of tension and I loved that it was Aelin who kissed him :D.

“Her finger shook as she brushed them against his mouth, and his control shredded apart right there.

“What are you waiting for?” he said, the words near guttural.

“Bastard,” she murmured, and kissed him.

Her mouth was soft and warm, and he bit back a groan. His body went still — his entire world went still — at that whisper of a kiss, the answer to a question he’d asked for centuries. He realized he was staring only when she withdrew slightly. His fingers tightened at her waist.

“Again,” he breathed.”                                                                                            (source)

8. Shahrzad and Khalid – The Wrath and the Dawn

The first kiss between Shazi and Khalid is so damn important! Yep, they had been married for a while and done a lot in the time, but not kissing, that was special.

““What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.

“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.

“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”

The bow and arrow clattered to the ground as he brought his mouth to hers.

And there was no turning back.”

9. Penryn and Raffe – Angelfall

I ship Penryn and Raffe with all force, so when she made a move and kissed him, I was thrilled, even if he says the worst thing right after it. But come one, did we really believe Raffe at that point? Not a chance!

“I place my hand on his cheek. It’s warm and pleasant. Maybe too pleasant. When his eyes don’t open, I tentatively touch my lips to his.

At first, I get no response and I consider backing off.

Then, his kiss turns hungry.

It is not the gentle kiss of a couple on a first date, nor is it the kiss of a man driven by simple lust. He kisses me with the desperation of a dying man who believes the magic of eternal life is in this kiss.”

                                                                                                                                             (source)

10. Eden and Tyler – Did I Mention I Love You?

After butting heads for half the book, Eden and Tyler finally find some common ground in their step-sibling relationship… yeah, it’s just not what it was supposed to be! They kiss, and then kiss again, and then there’s a huge headache for both of them, because being in love with someone you shouldn’t is not easy.

“His words have just left his lips when I reach out for him, grasping his face in my hands and feeling the warmth of his skin. I slam my lips into his, overwhelmed by the sensation as my eyelids flutter closed and a deafening silence consumes us. It’s agonizing the way my heart thuds against my chest, but exhilarating the way his lips feel against mine.”

Carry On (Rainbow Rowell)

carryon

Simon Snow just wants to relax and savor his last year at the Watford School of Magicks, but no one will let him. His girlfriend broke up with him, his best friend is a pest, and his mentor keeps trying to hide him away in the mountains where maybe he’ll be safe. Simon can’t even enjoy the fact that his roommate and longtime nemesis is missing, because he can’t stop worrying about the evil git. Plus there are ghosts. And vampires. And actual evil things trying to shut Simon down. When you’re the most powerful magician the world has ever known, you never get to relax and savor anything.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story — but far, far more monsters.

😱😳😱😳😱😳😱😳 OMFG!!!! 😍❤😍❤😍❤😍❤

Now I understand why Katytastic read this book a few times in a row, and why so many people were raving about Carry On, because this book is just freaking amazing!!!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Simon Snow bits of Fangirl, so while I was excited for this book, I was facing it as something totally new and independent from that one, because, to be honest, I didn’t retain much of it from Fangirl.  But Carry On made me love most of the characters right away, and I was sucked in from the first pages.

I’ve said it repeatedly: Rainbow Rowell is a genious! Not only is her writing style fabulous and funny, but she creates the best characters. I loved everyone! Ok, maybe I loved a couple of characters a little less than others, but I loved Simon and Baz and Penelope and Fiona and I could totally empathize with Agatha, though she wasn’t my favorite. And they’re all funny as hell!

Slide2

I found the World Building fantastic! The idea behind it was pure genius. The concept of the power of words is pretty great, but what I loved the most was the fact that despite the existence of magic, they still used cars and phones and went to normal school and universities. I liked that they wore normal clothes and talked about manicures. This book felt normal in the most magical way! I really loved how our everyday stuff has a place in the magickal world of Carry On, and I’m with you Agatha, why use magic if you have tape, right?

Even though this is supposed to be the 7th year of school, and there have been 6 years of adventures before, I was never lost and I really liked the references to all those other times, and the relationships between all the characters was super well explained. And OMG, BAZ!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Slide4

Should we talk about the romance? I mean, it’s not really a spoiler, right? Simon and Baz are almost kissing on the cover, ok?

Slide3

So, yeah, the romance… 😍❤😍❤ It’s so heartwarming and cute and my heart felt like it was going to explode and I never wanted it to end! Baz and Simon are totally OTP and I could read a whole book with just the two of them spending time together :D.

Slide1

The book was fast paced and I really liked how the various elements of the plot came together in one big plot. The only thing I would have liked would be for the gang to actually find out the whole truth about everything. We, as readers, get to find out, but the guys don’t. But that ok, I guess, they CARRY ON just fine :D.

Now I want to read Fangirl to appreciate the characters a lot more than I did the first time… 😀 And do yourself a favor, and read it now!!!

Book Traveling Thursdays: Favorite Read in 2015

btt

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “It’s the last day of 2015! Choose your favorite book read in 2015“. Once again, the covers fail me! My favorite read of 2015 was Queen of Shadows, but there are only 2 covers for it, given that it came out not that long ago… so, I’m gonna chose ONE OF MY FAVORITES of 2015! And that will be Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell :D. I’m currently reading Carry On, and it somehow seems fitting to end the year with a book that made me want to read a lot more and that has one of my favorite covers ever.

Original COver:

I love love love this cover! I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t like it, right?

COVER FROM MY COUNTRY (PORTUGAL) & COVER FROM THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN (SPAIN):

I love that this book is already out in Portugal and in Spain :D! The Portuguese edition is similar to the one I own, which is probably my favorite. It’s similar to the original, but the focus is more on the title and not on Cath and Levi. The spanish edition is pretty much the same as the original.

Favorite COVER(s):

These are my favorite covers for Fangirl. The first is the one I own and it’s the UK paperback edition. The second is the hardcover Exclusive Collector’s Edition, and I love how big Cath and Levi are here, it just works. And the last one is a paperback Special Fan Art Edition and I love this combination of yellow with pink.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

The Slovak just doesn’t work for me, even though it is the original one, but the lettering is just… no… and that huge white balloon isn’t really looking good either. The Hungarian and Serbian covers are just BAD!

The Book Courtship Tag

courtshiptag

Hello, and welcome back to another book tag. This time I’m doing The Book Courtship Tag, that has been around for a while. I was tagged by Travelling in My Bookcase, thank you so much. People, go check out her blog! The Book Courtship Tag which was originally created by LovelyLikeLaura.

Phase 1 – Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover?

I bought Love in the Time of Global Warming (Francesca Lia Block) 95% because of its gorgeous cover. Go on, have a look at it. Isn’t it just amazing? Unfortunately I had a few problem with the book itself, but the cover is just gorgeous.

Phase 2 – First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary?

I bought The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion totally because of the summary!

Meet Don Tillman. Don is getting married. He just doesn’t know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. One thing he already knows, though, is that it’s not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not.

Phase 3 – Sweet Talk: A book with great writing?

Renee Ahdieh is a genius, and The Wrath and the Dawn has the most amazing writing.

If you haven’t read it yet, first of, how is it possible? And then, go and pick it up now!

Phase 4 – First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?

Here I have to go with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. When I read it I wasn’t as heavily into reading as I am right now, but City of Bones made me go out and get the next 2 books, and then the 3 others, and then The Infernal Devices… you get it, right?

Phase 5 – Late Night Phone Calls: A book that kept you up all night?

I’ve been kept late a few times lately, but the last one was More Than Once by Elizabeth Briggs.

Lately I’ve been staying late to read on Fridays… and when I say late is “it’s almost morning” kind of late.

Phase 6 – Always on my mind: A book you could not stop thinking about?

OMG, Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. BIGGEST BOOK HANGOVER EVER!!! Lol. I read this book in one night – so it could totally have fitted on the previous slot – and afterwards I could not stop thinking about it. I wanted more. I needed more Warner and Juliette. I would go back to open the book and read random chapters. I had a problem. I don’t have it now because the book is physically very far away from me.

Phase 7 – Getting Physical: A book which you love the way it feels?

I love running my hands through all my books… I might have a problem… 😛 Now, I’ll choose a very recent one: Cress by Marissa Meyer. I just love my book, and the embossing on the lettering. The Square Fish editions are just so gorgeous and I’m so glad that I decided to get these ones – even if now I have to wait one year for a physical copy of Winter.

Phase 8 – Meeting the parents: A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?

I would like everyone to read Modern Romance: An Investigation by Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg. I chose a non-fiction one on purpose, because I’m sure most of my family wouldn’t want to read fantasy… And this book is just amazing and it blew my mind. I think everyone should read it… and I mean: EVERYONE!

Phase 9 – Thinking about the future: A book or series you know you will re read many times in the future?

Hmmm, so many… but… Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell… actually, I’m thinking that I might pick it up this month if I can get through all of my TBR on time 🙂 . Reading this one on Christmas time would be the most perfect thing.

Phase 10 – Share the love: Who do you tag?

I will tag… EVERYONE!!! This tag has been around for a long time, so you probably have done it already, but if you haven’t, and you want to, consider yourself tagged, yeah?!

Top Ten Tuesday: Quotes from Books I loved this year

Top Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read In The Past Year Or So

Suddenly I’m very glad that I’ve been collecting quote posts and creating and inserting quotes images on my reviews for a few months, because it means that I have those made already. Sure, there are probably some great quotes that I’ve read lately that won’t be in here, not that they wouldn’t be in my top ten, but I’m just too lazy right now to go look for them 😛 – so this is the Top Ten of quotes that I had already collected, and posted, on this blog.

1. Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Characters that I would give Halloween a chance for

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Halloween themed freebie — your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)

I don’t do Halloween, like, at all. I don’t read scary books, I don’t watch scary movies, I don’t dress up or go out partying. I don’t do any of those things. So this week I decided to name 10 characters that I would totally do the Halloween thing for, or, people who are so cool that I would totally like to dress up as them.

1. Cath (Fangirl)

True, it wouldn’t be exactly hard to dress up as Cath, but it would be a blast. Cath is so relatable, that if I raid my closet I would probably have everything I needed to “be” her. (source)

2. Tessa Gray (The Infernal Devices)

Dressing up as any Shadowhunter would be great, but I have a soft spot for Tessa Gray’s clothes 😉 . (source)

3. Aelin Ashryver Galathynius (Throne of Glass Series)

Celaena’s clothes are all amazing, but I love her tunics and pants, and that dress from Queen of Shadows? With the Dragon? WOW!!! (source)

4. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter series)

Dressing up as a student from Hogwarts would already be pretty great, but Luna is just special. (source)

5. Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses)

Feyre is a bit kickass, I mean, she gets to wear some gorgeous clothes – though not dresses at first – and she has a bow and arrows, so she has a Katniss vibe going on as well… (source)

6. Dahlia Moss (The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss)

I read this book recently (and loved it) and Dahlia just wears the most ridiculous things sometimes… I mean, a jigglypuff hat?!

dahlia_

7. Shahrzad (The Wrath and the Dawn)

Shazi just has the most amazing set of clothes (and husband), so I would totally dress like her for one day… though I suspect that I would be thoroughly embarrassed by the amount of skin showing…

8. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)

Does this need an explanation? (source)

9. Eleanor (Eleanor & Park)

I love Eleanor’s style, she’s so unique, and I love her so much, that I would totally be her for one day (if her family didn’t come attached). (source)

10. Professor McGonagall (Harry Potter series)

I’ve mentioned before that I think McGonagall rocks, and I would totally dress up as her for Halloween 😀 .

The Pastry Book Tag

booktag_pastry

Hello, welcome back to another book tag. Raven @Dreamy Addictions tagged me for the Pastry Book Tag a while back – thank you Raven! So, let’s do this!

1. Croissant: Name a popular book or series that everyone (including you) love.

I will go with the most obvious answer in the history of books: The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. I know a few of you haven’t read this – and that’s totally fine – but I’m yet to see anyone that has read it and didn’t like it.

2. Macaron: Name a book that was hard to get through but worth it at the end.

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux was a bit tricky to get through. It is a unique way of storytelling, and it was one of the first books I read in English – the book itself was first written in french. And to top it off, I read it while I was on vacation a few years back and my mind just wasn’t totally in it. I did love it though, so, totally worth it at the end.

3. Vol-au-vent: Name a book that you thought would be amazing but fell flat.

A Whole New World: A Twisted Tale by Liz Braswell. I had such high hopes for this book… but it fell more than flat, it actually opened a hole on the ground and buried itself. Not good…

4. Pain au chocolat: Name a book that you thought would be one thing but turned out to be something else.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Ok, to be honest, I had no idea what it was about before I started, I assumed (because I didn’t read the blurb) that it was about someone fangirling about something. It is about that, but not exactly, it’s so much more.

5. Profiterole: Name a book or series that doesn’t get enough attention.

The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis totally deserves every attention out there. Why isn’t everyone talking about it? This book is fantastic and I think that everyone should be planning to read it… now!

6. Croquembouche: Name a book or series that’s extremely complex.

My default answer would be Game of Thrones, but I’m gonna go with the Throne of Glass series, by Sarah J. Maas. Each book gets more and more complicated, a lot of action, a lot of characters and a lot at stake…

7. Napoleon: Name a movie or TV show based off a book that you liked better than the book itself.

Hmmmm, not an easy one… I guess my answer will be New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. I wasn’t a big fan of the book – let’s face it, it’s a bit boring and all – but the movie is slightly better and the cinematography is actually pretty cool.

8. Empanada: Name a book that was bittersweet.

For this one I’m gonna go with More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera, because it is more happy than not, but it still left me utterly heartbroken.

9. Kolompeh: Name a book or series that takes place somewhere other than your home country.

This one is easy… almost all books take place somewhere other than Portugal or Spain, so I’m going to go with The Infernal Devices trilogy, by Cassandra Clare, which takes place in Victorian London.

10. Pate a Choux: Name one food from a book or series that you would like to try.

Everything from Harry PotterThrone of Glass and the The Wrath and the Dawn. The food is described so vividly that it’s impossible not to want to try every single thing they mention.

Ok… that’s it! I’ll tag EVERYONE that hasn’t done this one and would like to give it a go.
