Welcome back for the 30th day of The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge! As you know by now, Leannaatc @Short Story Long had this idea of a month full of Harry Potter and you can find the prompt for each day here here. This is it people, it’s the END!

– Day 30: What affect has Harry Potter made on your life? How much does it mean to you? –

I can say that Harry Potter means a lot to me. It came into my life at a critical point in it: the year of writing my Master thesis. Sure, I had heard of Harry Potter before (who hadn’t), I’d watched most of the movies that were out by then, but I had no interest in reading them – reading was not a thing I did a lot back then.

But then I fell in love with reading because of Twilight (yes, you read that right!), and one day I decided that I wanted to read all the Harry Potter’s as well. So I went into FNAC and bought all 7 books, the first one in portuguese (they didn’t have it english for some reason) and all the other 6 in English (my lovelies pocket signature edition). I didn’t really start reading right away, I wanted the Sorcerer’s Stone in English so bad!!! Luckily I found it on the same week and started to journey through all the books.

Then a funny thing happened, talking about the books allowed me to reconnect with an old friend, and we ended up reading the last 4 books “together” – by together I mean: each at our own houses, exchanging text messages about the book – no whatsapp then either. It was a blast, and we managed, albeit for a short time, avoid a lot of things that were and always will be, wrong with our friendship, and we enjoyed each other’s company for a while and it was good.

So for me, Harry Potter will always mean a time of my life that I was a bit lost and I found an old friend again. By the way, I’ll always love this friend of mine, she’ll always have a special place in my heart, but it’s just the kind of friendship that is so toxic, that staying away is for the best.

After that, Harry Potter meant being part of the fandom in some small way, and that is an amazing feeling!

I ended up giving my portuguese Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal to my nephew, in the hopes that he would start reading – because me and him like to share nerdy things, it’s “our thing” – but the kid is not that much into books… he likes his phone and likes to make videos, and he’s actually quite good at it and I’m kind of hoping that he’ll want to pursuit it when time comes.

Last Christmas I made another attempt to influence another nephew… this time my oldest niece, who was 11 at the time – perfect age, right? So I bought her the 2 first books in the new 15 year anniversary edition – they’re so gorgeous! This kid told me “yes, I’ll read it in the summer!” – I’m sure she hasn’t, but hey, I tried! I even bought them all wands when I went to The Harry Potter Studio Tour (and those things are bloody expensive!).

(I kind of wanted to buy all this collection for myself because I’m in love with the covers, but my mom started making fun of me on the shop… “aren’t those books for kids? You’re 30!”)

And this is it! The end of the The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge! Wow, it has been a crazy month, now I want to curl up and watch all the movies, re-read all the books (it won’t happen anytime soon) and relax. 🙂

A few days ago I mentioned the fact that I hadn’t watched any of the Harry Potter fan adaptations, so unfortunately I still haven’t watched this one either.

Keep in mind, when I first read Harry Potter, A Very Potter Musical was already out and wildly popular, and I really liked Darren Criss from Glee and I really wanted to watch it. But I think the hype was too big, and youtube was not really my thing, so I kept pushing it, so I’m still waiting to watch it.

Each day that goes by I have less and less to say… which is sad! I only know 2 Wizard Wrock songs, and they are both from the short film I Ship It – which you should totally go watch, NOW!

I really like these songs (and now I’m actually listening to a few more on youtube), but before today I never really gave it much thought and had never listened to it before (apart from the movie ones). I actually think it’s great, and the lyrics, wow, some are hilarious.

Wow… this is a weird question…

First off, let me say, I wouldn’t do it. Like ever. No matter what. The whole idea of splitting your soul is horrifying to me, and not only because of the means to do it. So, I don’t think I’ll have a good answer for this one.

Technically it would have to be something important and hard to destroy, so naturally my first thought goes to a piece of jewelry. Maybe it has to do with my 2 favorite Voldemort’s Horcruxes: the ring and the locket. I guess that would be my answer, a locket – because the effect it had was pretty terrifying and cool.

– Day 26: If you could be able to work one spell without a wand what would it be? –

If I could do a spell without a want… Hell, I wish my wand would work, I would gladly take it everywhere (yes people, I do own a wand).

But I would like to be able to apparate (as awful as Jo made it sound in the books), because being in one place in one moment, and in another place in the next would be pretty amazing.

It would solve a lot of problems for me, and I would be able to attend to every birthday for every member of my family and friends. I could pop home to have diner with my dad, or visit my mom in Africa. I wouldn’t miss my niece’s dance recitals. I wouldn’t take 1 hour and a half to get to the cinema each time I want to watch a movie (with subtitles)… It would be dreamy.

– Day 25: Nineteen years later. Are you happy how it turned out, or do you wish something was different? –

I’m happy about how everything turned out. That epilogue got me through the last book… (yes, I read the epilogue BEFORE I read the rest of the book…)

I loved that Harry and Ginny got married and has 3 kids – I’m still not sure about Albus Severus, what a name… I LOVED that Ron and Hermione got married and that Ron never stopped being himself – he was so funny on that epilogue. I loved how well Teddy had turned out, and that he was very much part of the Potter/Weasley family. How Neville became a professor at Hogwarts…

I just wished there was more of it, I wanted to read a full book with them all grown up, going about their lives, working at the ministry, figuring out how to live after all those battles…

But yeah, I wouldn’t change a thing!

– Day 24: Which scene did wish was filmed, but wasn’t –

Obviously there are a lot of scenes that I wished had made their way into the movies, because they were epic. A lot of them has to do with whole plotlines, such as SPEW or Winky or Peeves or Firenze, that never made it into the movies. So, those would actually be a lot of scenes, and I won’t mention them again.

There are a few scenes that I wished has been done differently, two in particular come to mind, and it’s the kisses scenes. The kisses in the movie always came out as awkward, especially those between Harry and Ginny, and I wished that their first kiss in Half Blood Prince had been true to the book, you know, in the middle of the common room, with everyone around…

That movie-kiss bothered me more than Ron and Hermione’s first kiss in the movies – a scene that I also wished was just like the book, because the book-scene was awesome.

Another scene that I was had been included was the one that explained the life of Albus Dumbledore, and what had happened to his sister Ariana…

But the one that I really wished had been included and wasn’t, was Dumbledore’s funeral. I cried my eyes out on that particular moment of the book, because everyone that had been in the books so far was there to pay their respects to the amazing wizard and person that was Dumbledore. Even the merpeople! And the giant squid.

– Day 23: Which scene (book or movie) made you cry the hardest –

A lot of scenes from the book made me cry, a lot. The death scenes were always the worst, obviously, I remember that the moment Harry enters in the Great Hall after the battle of Hogwarts, and sees all those bodies… yeah, it was all foggy there, because I was crying so hard.

But the Dumbledore’s death scene and his funeral really hit hard. The funeral in the book, with all that people… oh my, I was a sobbing mess… I bet I can make some of you cry right now…

Wow, talk about a doubled edge sword! I actually thought a bit about this and my answer is: never know it existed.

I love Harry Potter, obviously, but it wasn’t the series that got me into reading, or that made me love fantasy, so I would rather have access to every other book out there, then to just read Harry Potter for the rest of my life. Does it make sense?

And honestly, if I never knew it existed, I wouldn’t know what I was missing out on, so it would all be fine…

Who would I bring back from the dead… Fred Weasley! There were a lot of unfortunate deaths, and my first instinct would be to say Tonks, but I don’t think she would be ok without Lupin. And Fred, poor Fred, was way too young!
