The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge #7

Welcome back for the 7th day of The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge. As you know by now, Leannaatc @Short Story Long had this idea of a month full of Harry Potter and you can find the prompt for each day here here.

– Day 7: Who’s your favourite female character and why? –

I’m going to cheat… again! Sorry people, but choosing one is not an option here.

Hermione:

Hermione is obviously one of my favorite female characters on Harry Potter. I say obviously because she’s smart, she kicks-ass and she also has more “screen-time” than any other female on this book, so it’s pretty easy to love her, even if she’s an “insufferable know-it-all” (don’t worry honey, I am too at times).

Tonks:

I feel in love with Tonks as soon as she made her first appearance on Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. She’s just so cool, and if you thought she looked cool in the movies, it has nothing on her coolness on the books. First off, she’s super young, and she’s already an Auror. She changes her hair colour very often, she gives advice to the girls and becomes more than a friend, she has horrible relatives, but she’s still so awesome. And she falls in love with Lupin and doesn’t care if he’s older, poor or a werewolf!

Luna:

I don’t think is possible not to absolutely love Luna Lovegood. She sees the world much more clearly than any other person, she doesn’t care what people say about her, she’s always herself! Enough said, Luna rocks!

Minerva McGonagall:

Full disclosure, I already loved McGonagall before reading the books, it might have something to do with the Amazing Dame Maggie Smith portraying her on screen! With that said, McGonagall is OUT OF THIS WORLD! She is always funny and respect worthy, but her confrontations with Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix will forever be within my favorite bits of these books. And her sass… 😀

Molly Weasley:

I talked about the Weasley men the other day, but in truth that family wouldn’t be who they are if they weren’t led by the amazing Molly Weasley. She’s a fierce mother and a force of nature. Her worst nightmare was loosing all her family, including Harry… and she killed Bellatrix!!! Points for Mrs Weasley!

– Day 4: Who’s your least favourite female character and why? –

This is actually a hard one. My first thought went to Dolores Umbridge, but honestly, no, I hate her (more than anyone else in these books), but she’s so well written that I like to read about her, you know?! I love to hate her!

So my least favorite is the next despicable woman in the Harry Potter series: Rita Skeeter!

I just find her despicable in every sense of the world. The way bends the words to her will, and takes pleasure in ruining someone else’s lives just to get ahead, really makes my skin crawl… because, unfortunately, she’s a very real character! There are so many people that are just like her, that it’s scary to think about how low some people are willing to sink to get ahead.

Best moment was when Hermione outsmarted her (like the bright witch she is) and trapped her in that jar! I laughed so much, first because it was so Hermione-like thing to do, but mostly, because Rita Skeeter deserved it most than anyone!

What about you? Who is your least favorite female character from the Harry Potter series?

The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge #3

Welcome back for the third day of The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge. As you know by now (sort of), Leannaatc @Short Story Long has this idea of a month full of Harry Potter and you can find the prompt for each day here here.

– Day 3: Is there anything in the film adaptations that annoyed you? –

Oh, well, I’m so glad you’ve asked! When I first saw this question I thought I would have to think deep and hard about it, but no, there are several things that annoyed me in the adaptations, but most had to do with the constraints of time when adapting a 400 pages novel to screen.

There is one thing though, that had nothing to do with time, and that to this day annoys the hell out of me. Book-Ron Vs Movie-Ron!

I love both Ron’s, seriously, as I said in The Harry Potter Tag, Ron is one of my favorite characters and I have a slight (huge) crush on Rupert Grint (mainly because I think he does comedy so well), but that does not make me blind to what they took out of Ron when they transferred him onto the screen.

It started on the first movie, and then I guess it would be too much of a hassle to do him right, and also, Ron became sort of the comic relief for the movies (which again, is fine and all, but it’s not Ron – Book Ron is super funny as well). When the trio falls into the Devil’s Snare, Hermione is the one who panics in the book, while Ron always maintains a cool head. Actually, Book-Ron is ALWAYS cool-headed in stressful situations, and it is Hermione who panics. I honestly don’t know why they role-reversed it on the movies…

Ron defends Hermione when Snape calls her a “know-it-all”!

Also, it is Ron, with a broken leg, that stand in front of Harry, before Sirius (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and tells him that if he wants to murder Harry, he has to go through him first. See? Book-Ron is funny, cool-headed, brave, super loyal, kind and kicks-ass!

“If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!” he said fiercely, though the effort of standing upright was draining him of still more color, and he swayed slightly as he spoke.

“Lie down,” [Sirius] said quietly to Ron. “You will damage that leg even more.”

“Did you hear me?” Ron said weakly, though he was clinging painfully to Harry to stay upright. “You’ll have to kill all three of us!”

He defends Hermione on more than one occasion, even when his own mother thinks the worst of her because of the tabloid news, it is Ron who sets it right! One important thing as well, is that within the main trio Ron is the only one with knowledge of the wizarding world. Everytime they need reference or explanations, or something like that, it is Ron to the rescue.

So yeah, this is probably the thing that most annoys me because it’s current throughout the 8 movies.

The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge #2

– DAY 2: YOUR FAVORITE movie? –

Again, like I mentioned of The Harry Potter Tag, my favorite, as the book, is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Much like I said about the book, I find that this movie has the perfect amount of drama, comedy, action, love, heartbreak…  The direction is superb and I think it’s the movie when Daniel Radcliffe really came into his own. The trio does an even more amazing job in the movie, which then they manage to top it off in The Deathly Hallows (which are magnificent, both of them).

I love the transitions between the comedic elements of this movie to the dark moments :), I think that why this is my fav.

The Harry Potter 30 Days Challenge #1

It appears that today is Harry Potter all the way! (Good thing I went ahead and went for that HP font, that looks great, right?). A few days ago leannaatc @Short Story Long had this amazing idea of doing a 30 days Harry Potter challenge, I thought it was a great idea so I jumped on board. You can find the themes for each day here, and you can see her post for the first day here.

– Day 1: Your favorite book? –

As I just said in The Harry Potter Tag, for my favorite book I have to pick Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I really like this book because it manages to have funny moments within all the tragedy that’s going on. We also have the constant presence of Aurors in Hogwarts, which is pretty damn cool, and a lot of Tonks. We also see these teenagers grow a lot, there’s more Quidditch, with Ginny kicking ass. And that kiss! I love Ginny and Harry’s kiss in front of everyone (not at all like the movie).

I also loved that we get the distinct notion for the first time, that maybe, just maybe, Draco is not all into the bad stuff, his character is a lot more complex, and here it finally shows.

And Horace Slughorn, who I found super interesting – and it’s nice to see that not all Slytherins are indeed bad.

I loved how the storyline was immensely more complex :D. Oh, and Harry for once being better than Hermione at class was epic (even if he was kind of cheating!).

That’s it, see you tomorrow for day #2!
