Book Traveling Thursdays: A Book With a Kind Character

btt

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “Tomorrow is World Kindness Day! Choose a book that has a kind character“. I wracked my brains about this one, and decided to go with one of my favorite kind guys from all of the books I ever read, and that is Jem Carstairs, and the book I chose is Clockwork Prince (Cassandra Clare).

Original COver:

I have to admit that when I first looked at this cover, I was a bit dismayed: this is nothing like I imagine my Jem! Still, the cover has grown on me a bit, I just wished they had picked their models slightly better.

COVER FROM MY COUNTRY (PORTUGAL) & COVER FROM THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN (SPAIN):

Oh wow, look at that! This book has a portuguese, spanish and catalan editions! The Portuguese one is very similar to the original cover, but the colouring is a bit lighter and the contrasts are sharper. The spanish edition is exactly like the original, but the catalan went a different way entirely… is that supposed to be the Mortal Sword? o_O

Favorite COVER(s):

I’ll admit that I think I like the new Infernal Devices covers a bit more than the originals, or maybe it’s a tie… not sure. I like that this one exposes Jem’s passions and his vulnerability. Then I kind of like the slovak edition, i like the mechanic creature in it, it’s captivating.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

This week, the worst covers are the Turkish, Polish and Italian ones. The Turkish is just off, the face doesn’t even seem to belong to that body, and who is that supposed to be? Jem? I don’t think so… Then, for the Polish edition, they went for someone I’m assuming is supposed to be Tessa, but this cover would be more fitting of an historical romance than anything else. And finally, the italian… the guy is hot, I’ll give it that, but I don’t like the overall theme, or lack there of it.

Top Ten Tuesday: Hot Hot Hot!

Welcome to another Tuesday, which means another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is a FREEBIE! It might sound easy, but nope, not really! lol. After reading a few struggles on twitter about this week’s theme (this is partly your fault Jesse – go check out his post! 😛 ), and still suffering from a huge book hangover due to Ignite Me – where I totally blame the sexy scenes, I decided to make today’s theme: Hot and Steamy Scenes, whether it was a hot steamy kiss, something more or something considerably less… words can go a long way!

Top Ten Tuesday

Fair warning, the passages might be graphic! And there will be SPOILERS! If you are not comfortable with steamy scenes from some YA books, turn away! And if you haven’t read these books and don’t want to know anything, again, turn away!!! You have been warned! 😉

1. Warner & Juliette – Unravel Me

I mentioned above how I’m still suffering from a huge book hangover thanks to Ignite Me, right? Unravel Me is to be blamed as well. How else start this list, if not with the wonderful chapter 62 from Unravel Me? If you read the book, you know what I’m talking about… This WILL NOT be their only entry on this list…

2. Tamlin & Feyre – A Court of Thorns and Roses

This book is all kinds of hot. There are 3 scenes that I totally needed to fan myself to get over, and I’ll mention 2 of them on this list, but the first one is the hall scene…

3.  Warner & Juliette – Ignite Me

Let’s be honest, for the last 25% of the book they can’t keep their hands off each other, and it’s cute and hot and OMG…. but that moment!!! WOW! Does Tahereh Mafi know how to write sexy scenes or what?! I’m not going to put the whole scene here, because it’s amazing and you should READ IT! I know it almost by heart now, from the countless times that I read it…

4. Jace & Clary – City of Fallen Angels

Jace and Clary have some pretty steamy throughout the 6 books, a favorite of mine is the one outside the manor, yeah, when they still believe they’re brother and sister… moving on… my second favorite is in City of Fallen Angels, in the alley…

5. Tessa & Jem – Clockwork Prince

Let’s never ever forget that the first time that Tessa and Jem kissed, they almost slept together. It took Will a lot more to get there 😉 (but then poor Jem had to wait even longer). Still, this scene took my breath away, and I loved every second of it.

6. Shazi & Khalid – The Wrath & The Dawn

Shahrzad and Khalid’s first kiss is hot hot hot and epic. I’ll even mention the fact that this is their first truly intimate moment, even after they had slept together twice. It’s so so beautiful!

7. TAMLIN & FEYRE – A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES

Ok, so as I said before, Tamlin and Feyre have some hot scenes on this book, but the actual sex scene actually made me blush so much that I was truly aware that it shouldn’t be read on the train…

8. Laia & Elias – An Ember in the Ashes

I’ve said it before, I love Laia and Elias together, and I can’t wait for the next book, when they definitely have to spend some more time in each other’s company… Still, the one time they were all alone, it was pretty hot, right?

aeita_1

9. Will & Tessa – Clockwork Prince

Clockwork Prince was a busy book for Tessa! She rolled around in bed with Jem, and then had a very steamy make out session with Will, on the Lightwood’s balcony in the middle of a party, under the effect of some mood altering drugs… it was still a pretty great scene!

10. Magnus & Alec – The Course of True Love (and First Dates)

There are so many damn couples in the Shadowhunter’s world, that it’s hard to move away from it. I love Magnus and Alec, they’re my favorite couple in The Mortal Instruments, and their first date is just hilarious! But it’s also super sweet and you should totally read it, if you haven’t already. (I mean, Alec falls down the stairs…)

Special Mention – Tessa & Jem  – After the Bridge

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this story, first because it’s Jem and Tessa, secondly, because the whole story is pretty hot, steamy and emotional. Have you read After the Bridge? If not, you can find it here. Let’s just say that while Will always had the fame, Jem was a complete surprise…

Top Ten Tuesday: Perfect Male Specimens 101

It’s Tuesday again! Where is the time going?! o_O … So it means, it’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday, and today’s theme is: Top Ten Books That Would Be On Your Syllabus If You Taught X 101. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Tuesday

I have to admit that I was a bit at a lost here, I had no idea what to write about, but luckily Kat @Life and Other Disasters, gave me a fantastic idea, she said “Or books that have the perfect fictional crush in them.” and I LOVED IT! With that in mind, welcome to my Top Ten Books with Perfect Male Specimens 101.

1. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

By now it comes to no surprise to anyone, but I have a huge crush on James Carstairs. But these books have multiple sources of perfect (or close to it) male specimens, being Will Herondale a perfect example of a man who makes most of the book community swoon (am I right?). Other perfectly good example, for me, of a swoon-worthy man in this series is Gideon Lightwood (the scones under the bed… wow). Between Jem, Will and Gideon, a lot of crushable guys here.

2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Levi is as crush-worthy as they come. I couldn’t stop myself from loving the hell out of him in Fangirl, even when he kind of messes up, because his character feels so real and so absolutely perfect. He always sees the bright side of things and people, he’s always happy, and the poor guy can’t stay away from the girl he loves for one single day… wow.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

77493_originalWe (all of us who have read Sarah J. Maas books) can all agree that she’s a master at creating men, especially Fae hunks. Now, all the 3 main males from this book are pretty swoon-worthy, and I’m not even mentioning how gorgeous and hot they are, but I’m super partial to Tamlin…

Poor Tamlin, who has forgotten how to flirt, who thinks that “your hair is clean” is enough for… something… oh, but he learns! Soon it’s all “let’s go for a swim” “dance for me” and all those other stuff, so yeah, pretty crushable (especially from all of Feyre’s accounts of their intimate moments).

Then we have Lucien (the red hair kills me), who left his family and all he had for his love. WOW! And then Rhysand, the most beautiful man that Feyre has even seen – and she lives with Tamlin and Lucien. Rhys is kind of amazing and full of potential, I just want to see more of him.

4. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Romance is never the main plot of this book, but the perfectness that is Elias is hard to ignore. This guy, who has trained to be a ruthless killer for years on end, has so much more to him… he’s kind, compassionate, he doesn’t want to kill, or fight, he just wants to be free. He’s attracted to his BFF but doesn’t act on it because he doesn’t want things to be weird and he doesn’t want to lose her. He helps a slave (and something more than help…)… The whole time I was reading about him, I couldn’t help but sigh and swoon.

5. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

It will be weird if you haven’t read this book before, so you really need to take this class seriously and read it, only then will you understand why a guy who has all his wives murdered at dawn can be so perfect and honestly, one of the most perfect male specimen that I found in any kind of books.

But trust me, Khalid is perfect, truly perfect! Again, once you ignore the fact that all his brides die. But the relationship he has with Shazi, and the kind of love he has for her, is seriously relationship goal.

6. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han

One name people, Peter K.! This guy is seriously swoon worthy – I feel kind of weird saying this because he’s definitely way too young for me. But he’s so sweet and he cares so much, that it’s impossible not to fall a bit in love with him while reading these books.

7. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Remember when I said in point 3 how amazing Sarah J. Maas is at creating fictional men? It doesn’t end there. Throne of Glass is full of amazing men, all of them are pretty hot and pretty great. I’m a bit more partial to Dorian (prince, fights for what he loves, etc) and Rowan (200 years suffering for a lost love), but you might like Chaol better and that’s totally ok, because he’s pretty amazing as well. Or maybe Aedion?! I know Aedion rocks my boat, but that’s just me… Not even going to mention Sam, because I haven’t read The Assassin’s Blade yet.

8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Come on, a list of books with perfect men, you couldn’t really expect that I wouldn’t include the one fictional character that has been driving women crazy for more than 100 years, right?! Oh Yeah, the one and only, Mr. Darcy! I don’t think I need to explain this one…

9. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I just find Lincoln pretty perfect, because I relate so much to him. The way he loves is so full and complete…

And I think Christine and Beth say it best:

“Every woman wants a man who’ll fall in love with her soul as well as her body.”

“I didn’t know someone could love me like this,” she said. “Could love me and love me and love without…needing space.”

10. The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis

Mason Milton, people! Read this book, for real, as soon as it is out. It’s so worth it!

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge (2): Day 2

3days3quoteschallenge

Here are the three days of my first Challenge: day 1, day 2 and day 3. And here is the quote from yesterday!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.

The second quote is from one of my favorite authors, Cassandra Clare – which I realized I should have posted yesterday, because it was her birthday!!! Here I could have picked a whole lot of quotes, heck, I could make a book out of it, but I went with Clockwork Princess, because is so beautiful, and with a quote that I think defines perfectly well the most perfect love triangle that I ever read (warning, if you have not yet read CP2, you might want to not be SPOILED!).

cp2_tdi_2

I will only say this: Tessa is one lucky lady!

I will nominate:

Once again, only do this if you like, but it’s so much fun. 🙂 See you tomorrow for day 3!

The bedtime book tag

I was tagged by Tasha @ HEAD IN THE CLOUDS, HEART IN THE BOOKS to do this book tag, The Bedtime Book Tag. This was originally created by Kellys BookSpill and you can find the original video here.

the_bedtime_book_tag

  1. What book kept you up all night reading?

The Mortal Instruments: City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls kept me up until like 4 a.m. each, considering that I had work in the morning. I’m much more controlled now, and I hardly do that anymore, knowing that I will be pretty tired the next day, I mostly force myself to stop reading… Sometimes is quite tough, and I have to shove the book inside my backpack, otherwise I’m tempted to pick it up again.

 City_of_Fallen_AngelsCity_of_Lost_Souls

(see the gorgeous new covers?! I’m so in love with them)

  1. What book made you scared to go to sleep?

I don’t read horror books, but sometimes a book has me scared to go to sleep because I need to know that the character is all right… and then I toss and turn because I want to know what happens next…

tumblr_n41jqqjeUn1ql56ddo1_500

  1. What book almost put you to sleep?

The Iliad by Homer. I still haven’t finished it. The problem is not in the book, I assure you, I love mythology and all that. But I have a pocket version of the book, in Portuguese, with teeny tiny letters, and I was reading it in my commute to work, on the train, when said commute was about 1h, so I naturally just fell asleep every time I opened the book. I do intent to read it though… someday.

  1. What book has you tossing and turning in anticipation of its release?

A Court of Thorns and Roses #2 !!!!! I’m obviously waiting for a few others (An Ember in the Ashes #2, I’m looking at you!!!).

 77493_originalemberintheashes_jkt_5-1

  1. What book has your dream girlfriend/boyfriend?

So many, but mainly The Infernal Devices trilogy… JEM CARSTAIRS!!! 😀

  1. What book world would be your worst nightmare to live in?

The Hunger Games, no doubt. It’s just such a cruel world and a horrible way to grow up (or die). And I’m not even within the reaping age anymore…

Hungergames_poster

  1. What book cover reminds you of night time?

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Look at that cover! How could you not think of night time?

71Ha8X7iAjL

  1. What book has a nightmarish cliffhanger?

I can’t remember any! I will say it again, I hardly start a series when it comes out, so usually if there’s a cliffhanger, I just pick up the next book on the series 😉

tumblr_n09xxomsmg1tq4of6o1_500

  1. What book have you actually dreamed about?

A Court of Thorns and Roses… I also daydream about it… not nightmares though…

77493_original

  1. What book monster would you not want to find under your bed?

I don’t remember its name, but there was a kind of monster in ACOTAR which Feyre could not see, but could sense, you know what I mean? I felt that it was something similar to a Dementor, which by the way, I would so not want to find under my bed. I think that the monsters who mess with your head are the worst kind.

 77493_originalpoa_signature

That was fun 😀 !!! I will tag *YOU* (because my brain is not functioning enough to tag specific people, and because everyone should do this one, ’cause it’s great!). A huge thanks to Tasha again for tagging me for this one 😉 .

The Infernal Devices…farewell

Today I finished reading The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Princess… man, what an emotional ride this last book has been, I spent most of its final third trying not to openly cry on the subway, and still having to have a tissue at hand because sometimes I was not successful… DAMN!!! Warning, there will be spoilers ahead, just so you know…

Winter_TID

I love The Mortal Instruments, but I love everyone on The Infernal Devices… it’s weird, I know. Having started with TMI, it’s funny and exhilarating to find all the clues to stuff that will come to light in the latter books. As I said, I pretty much love everyone on TID – and though I like most of everyone in TMI, the feeling just isn’t as strong.

Let’s start with the main trio, Tessa and Will and Jem are a breath of fresh air when it comes to love triangles, because they truly are a love triangle – everyone loves each other. Cassandra Clare handled it beautifully, allowing for both boys to get the girl, just at different times in their lives… it’s just a pity that Will and James didn’t have the same opportunity.

jem_will_tessa

I have to admit that I love Jem more, therefore I will always root for Jessa, but I also love Will and Tessa, so the ending was terribly satisfying, especially the bit Cassandra wrote on her blog.

jessa

The supporting characters are great. I have written before on how much I love Henry and Charlotte and by the end of the third book I felt even more admiration for them – even more knowing and understanding some bits and pieces of Jocelyn and Clary’s personalities… Fairchild’s all the way – with Branwell’s hair.

charlotte_henry_bran

Sophie was just brilliant, here it is, a girl scarred for life but that can still see and find the light, and Gideon Lightwood, who by all standards should be an uptight boy, but instead falls in love with a servant, a scarred servant by the way… and then there’s the whole scones business and the “proposing” without talking to her first… poor guy…

sophie_gideon

Cecily Herondale was a surprise for me. When she first got there I wasn’t so sure about her (given how much I disliked Jessamine), but she stayed and loved it, and was always able to get under Will’s skin and that was always fun to read. She even managed to turn Gabriel Lightw(orm)ood around – what a little prick he was before the whole business of killing his worm father… The longest I read about Cecy, the more I could see some of her in Isabelle – and though at first I was a little put down that the modern Lightwood’s are not Sophie and Gideon’s descendants, this lightened that up a bit – Isabelle is so much like Cecily and poor Alec inherited the inability to make romantic advances from both Gabriel and Gideon, so…

cecy_gabriel

Then there’s Magnus… oh Magnus Bane… he will always be my favorite, no matter in which century he is, or with whom he’s sleeping at the time, or if he still doesn’t wear glitter! You have to admit that the way he was at awe with Henry’s inventions was pretty darn cute. And the fact that he caught Will and Tessa after the fact was so Magnus!

magnusbane

And why is it then when I think of Bridget I envision this (but with a long sword instead of a bow and arrow)?!

brave

The villain turned out to be a pretty good one, with “sound” reasoning’s and a well thought out plan – too bad for Tessa, right?!

I will miss Victorian London and the Shadowhunters of the Institute, now I am looking forward to finish reading TMI: City of Heavenly Fire, and then to the sequels of each… The Dark Artifices and The Last Hours. Hoping we get to see more of Tessa’s life with Jem =).
