Top Ten Tuesday: Couples and Love Songs

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

This week is all about music & books. We previously did books we’d give theme songs to so feel free to do that! Or 10 songs I wish that were books (check out my love songs I wish were books for an example of what I mean) — Thanks to the couple people who suggested making this one an official topic. I don’t know why I hadn’t…I think I thought my post WAS for TTT in my head when I thought back to it.

Given that Valentine’s Day was just a couple of days ago, I decided to fuse some couples with some music. I only used NA couples for this week ;-). So here are some couples with some love lyrics that apply to them (in my opinion 🙂 ).

The Book Courtship Tag

courtshiptag

Hello, and welcome back to another book tag. This time I’m doing The Book Courtship Tag, that has been around for a while. I was tagged by Travelling in My Bookcase, thank you so much. People, go check out her blog! The Book Courtship Tag which was originally created by LovelyLikeLaura.

Phase 1 – Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover?

I bought Love in the Time of Global Warming (Francesca Lia Block) 95% because of its gorgeous cover. Go on, have a look at it. Isn’t it just amazing? Unfortunately I had a few problem with the book itself, but the cover is just gorgeous.

Phase 2 – First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary?

I bought The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion totally because of the summary!

Meet Don Tillman. Don is getting married. He just doesn’t know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. One thing he already knows, though, is that it’s not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not.

Phase 3 – Sweet Talk: A book with great writing?

Renee Ahdieh is a genius, and The Wrath and the Dawn has the most amazing writing.

If you haven’t read it yet, first of, how is it possible? And then, go and pick it up now!

Phase 4 – First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?

Here I have to go with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. When I read it I wasn’t as heavily into reading as I am right now, but City of Bones made me go out and get the next 2 books, and then the 3 others, and then The Infernal Devices… you get it, right?

Phase 5 – Late Night Phone Calls: A book that kept you up all night?

I’ve been kept late a few times lately, but the last one was More Than Once by Elizabeth Briggs.

Lately I’ve been staying late to read on Fridays… and when I say late is “it’s almost morning” kind of late.

Phase 6 – Always on my mind: A book you could not stop thinking about?

OMG, Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. BIGGEST BOOK HANGOVER EVER!!! Lol. I read this book in one night – so it could totally have fitted on the previous slot – and afterwards I could not stop thinking about it. I wanted more. I needed more Warner and Juliette. I would go back to open the book and read random chapters. I had a problem. I don’t have it now because the book is physically very far away from me.

Phase 7 – Getting Physical: A book which you love the way it feels?

I love running my hands through all my books… I might have a problem… 😛 Now, I’ll choose a very recent one: Cress by Marissa Meyer. I just love my book, and the embossing on the lettering. The Square Fish editions are just so gorgeous and I’m so glad that I decided to get these ones – even if now I have to wait one year for a physical copy of Winter.

Phase 8 – Meeting the parents: A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?

I would like everyone to read Modern Romance: An Investigation by Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg. I chose a non-fiction one on purpose, because I’m sure most of my family wouldn’t want to read fantasy… And this book is just amazing and it blew my mind. I think everyone should read it… and I mean: EVERYONE!

Phase 9 – Thinking about the future: A book or series you know you will re read many times in the future?

Hmmm, so many… but… Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell… actually, I’m thinking that I might pick it up this month if I can get through all of my TBR on time 🙂 . Reading this one on Christmas time would be the most perfect thing.

Phase 10 – Share the love: Who do you tag?

I will tag… EVERYONE!!! This tag has been around for a long time, so you probably have done it already, but if you haven’t, and you want to, consider yourself tagged, yeah?!

More Than Once (Chasing the Dream #4) (Elizabeth Briggs)

MoreThanOnce

She’s trying to be good. He loves it when she’s bad.

Andrew West is done being the nice guy. After a marriage proposal gone wrong, he’s started over in a new city and he’s never risking his heart again.

Becca Collins is done being the bad girl. After quitting the band she played bass for, she’s going to prove to her family that she’s really changed.

When Becca’s dumped by her boyfriend and fired from her job on Christmas Eve, all seems lost, until she runs into a former one night stand—Andrew. To impress her parents, Becca convinces him to pretend to be her perfect boyfriend for their holiday dinner.

After Andrew shows Becca he’s all bad boy in the bedroom, neither wants to pretend anymore. But when Becca’s invited to rejoin her band for a show and Andrew’s forced to face his ex, they both wonder if they’re ready to take a leap again—or if they’re doomed to fail in life and love a second time.

I’m so glad I’ve subscribed to Elizabeth Briggs’ launch team!!! After I read More Than Comics a few weeks ago, I was super happy to receive the new book in the Chasing the Dream series, especially because this one relates directly with the one above. I ended up devouring this book in one night!

This story is about Becca and Andy, and if you read More Than Comics, you know know that they meet at the end of that book, with Andy’s proposal to Tara having just been turned down, and Becca trying to rebuild her life after her fallout with the band (I still need to read book 0.5 and 1!). They share that one night but never have contact again, even though they both move to the same city. That is, until Andy runs into Becca at her job and they end up reconnecting.

Now, I have to say, I liked this book way more than More Than Comics! Don’t get me wrong, Tara and Hector are pretty great, but Andy and Becca are pretty amazing! I really liked their story. They were both so broken and so adamant about not giving a second chance to things – Becca didn’t want to pursue her music, thinking that she would always fail, and Andrew didn’t want to pursue love, because having put himself out there once and having his heart broken was enough. It’s so beautiful to read about how they change each other, and make the other one believe in themselves again, even if it was in a short period of time. But hey, this wasn’t inta-love, not really! They met in the summer, had mind-blowing sex and ended up connecting pretty well, and then they do the same again during Christmas, and they get closer and closer…

I really liked that the other theme of the book, other than their romance, was Becca’s family and not only her need for acceptance from her parents, but also her sister’s wants and needs. I was super happy when the band gets in contact with Becca again, and more than anything I was glad to see that Andy didn’t even question that he would leave his job and chase her – because even though he was with Tara for a year, that thought didn’t even cross his mind.

I really liked the ending, though that part was a bit predictable – what is it with Andrew and the one year mark?! 😛 Now, seriously, it was cute as hell. Becca and Andy are super super cute! Even when they’re being all bad and stuff, they’re so good together!

If you’re looking for a good romance, with a lot of chemistry and some deep issues, and a couple of great characters, give this one a go, it’s totally worth it!
