Blurb:

Reality bites.  Hard.

The last time Raven did “real” was sixteen months ago, when she spent one unforgettable night with the tattooed, impossible sexy Nico, and then he disappeared the next day.  Since then, she’s kept her guard up and her feelings to herself.  She doesn’t have time for relationship drama when she’s busy searching for her long lost sister.

Nico hasn’t stopped thinking about Raven — her sultry curves, inked skin, or the fact that he ditched her after their night together.  Now that they’re living in the same city, he knows this is his chance to make things right.  What better way to prove to Raven he’s for real than helping her find her sister?  But when the lines between right and wrong start to blur, putting his job on the line, Nico has to decide if the risk is worth the ultimate reward.

EXCERPT:

His large hand presses against my knee under the table. “Can we talk?”

Jesus, his touch. It’s the first time I’ve felt the weight of his palm on me since Aspen. It’s heavy. Huge. Callused. Instinctually I shift forward, my body no longer mine to command. He doesn’t move his hand. Just his thumb. It presses harder, dragging downward. I grip my armrests to keep from sliding to the floor. He stares at me, waiting for my answer.

Yes. No. Maybe. I choose silence.

The way our lives are entrenched with our friends, I’ll have to spend time with him, and I can’t keep pretending I can block him out. Moving here was about starting fresh, which means letting go of this grudge. But talking about Aspen could stir up more feelings, the same way the experience spurred my need to find Rose. If we talk about our time in the hot tub, it could unhinge me further.

Our waiter arrives to take our order, and Nico’s thumb moves again, a tiny brush, his skin against mine, sending a pulse between my thighs. My sanity plummets. I shout, “Chicken,” like a lunatic as I push away from the table.

Nico’s hand slides from my knee, but his eyes don’t waver. I feel his gaze on my back as I hurry to the bathroom. The second I get inside, I close the door and lean against it, thankful it’s not a public room with several stalls. I take a few deep breaths.

How can that bit of contact turn me inside out? The smallest touch?

Memories of his other touches flip through my mind, snippets of skin and ink, flashes of ecstasy.

My back arching.

His fingers exploring.

The curve of his inked shoulder.

His huge hands.

The sheer size of him.

We might not have had sex, and the details may be fuzzy, but there’s no doubt it was the hottest night I’ve ever had. What isn’t fuzzy is the time I spent with him in the hot tub prior, and how he took advantage of my vulnerability.

Goddamn Nico. And Goddamn Aspen.

Reality bites. Hard.

The last time Raven did “real” was sixteen months ago, when she spent one unforgettable night with the tattooed, impossibly sexy Nico, and then he disappeared the next day. Since then, she’s kept her guard up and her feelings to herself. She doesn’t have time for relationship drama when she’s busy searching for her long lost sister.

Nico hasn’t stopped thinking about Raven — her sultry curves, inked skin, and the fact that he ditched her after their night together. I’m so happy I got to change to read and review an ARC for Hooked on Trouble. I’ve been in love with Kelly Siskind’s writing since reading Chasing Crazy almost a year ago, and I was lucky enough to review the previous two books of this series, My Perfect Mistake and A Fine Mess.

I’m a big fan of Kelly’s writing, as you must have gathered by now, so no news there. I think the book has a perfect mix of humour and seriousness, though I have to say that I found this to be the least funny book of the series, but it made sense, because both Nico and Raven were pretty intense for most of the book.

I loved both characters, of course I did, but I have to say that they were the ones I connected less in this series. I think my first problem with Raven was the grudge she hold against Nico for so long… I understood her reasons, but… not really?! She knew why he left Aspen back then and the issues with his family, and she just waited for him to call her? That makes me kind of mad… But I did love her passion and her style and her sharped tongue. I also had a slight problem with Nico, although I understood why he was so strict, I found it a bit too much, but I loved his softness and how much he took care of the people he loved. Nico was all soft where Raven was all sharp, and I think they complemented each other quite nicely and had several things in common too.

I really liked the story and the heavy inclusion of family and its importance. I liked to see Nico struggling with everything he thought he had to shoulder, and Raven trying to reconnect with her sister. But it kind of bothered me that they didn’t communicate about some pretty important stuff… And I wish that some things had been tied up better.

I absolutely loved the ending though, seeing everything wrapped up for all the three couples warmed my heart, and I could have done with more bonding moments between the whole gang.

This was a solid conclusion to the Over the Top series – nice going with the series title, btw – and I urge you all to read these books if you love a good romance, lots of great characters and amazing friendships.

I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS BOOK! Eheh. This is my third Kelly Siskind’s book. I’ve read Chasing Crazy, which I loved, and then I read My Perfect Mistake, which is the first book if the Over the Top series, and I also loved it, so I was expecting great things for this one, and let me tell you: it did not disappoint.

Once again the writing was just perfection, the right mix of funny and emotional. I loved the dual POV and the clear difference between Sawyer and Lily’s voices – because they’re like night and day.

I already loved these two characters, but I was surprised by how much we didn’t really know them until this book, and by how much more depth they both had. Lily was definitly unique and I wasn’t expecting that little twist, and I thought it was genius. Kudos to Siskind for including such a frowned upon disorder and giving us a peek into the real issues behind it. I loved Lily all the more because of it. And Sawyer, oh boy… Sawyer was beyond amazing! I loved Kolton from book 1, but kid or no kid, I think Sawyer is now my favorite. He was just wonderful!

I feel like I’m repeating myself way too much, but I loved loved loved their romance – I had been waiting for it since Aspen. In a way it was crazy fast, but at the same time it really wasn’t, given that they had known each other, and had feelings for each other for months. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I really liked how they didn’t judge each other and were so supportive.

The fallout was heartbreaking, but I think it was needed, especially for Lily to realize how awesome she is all by herself, and doing what she needed to do (and for her to know that she could do it!). But Sawyer’s state… it broke my heart! But then the ending was perfect, just perfect! I loved how he put himself in her hands… PERFECT!!!!

The side characters were amazing as usual, and I loved to have a glimpse at Shay and Kolton – and to know that public places are very much still their thing, and Raven and Nico… I’m dying to know their story 😀 (especially after that last chapter!!!!).

Guys, if you haven’t yet read any book of this series, what are you waiting for? These books are perfect!!!! Go read them, NOW!

Excerpt:

Sawyer steps close and waits for me to make eye contact. Slowly, I lift my gaze to his gold-flecked brown eyes, but I can’t find my voice. It’s like I don’t know how to talk to him anymore.

He grins. “Hi.”

From my angle it’s easy to see the scar running down his neck, the remnant of a fall he took through a coffee table while wrestling with his brother. I’ve always wanted to touch it, feel the puckered skin under my fingers. I drop my gaze, but it doesn’t help. The cuffs of his gray button-down are rolled to his elbows, roped muscle exposed below. Something else I’d like to touch.

I blink hard. “Hi,” I say to my feet.

“Look at me, Lil.” I rock on my heels, then do as asked. He raises an eyebrow. “How fucking weird is this?”

My giggle surprises me, and I loosen my grip on my wineglass. “Totally weird.”

Thank God for Sawyer’s candid nature.

He sips his drink, probably Scotch, and a sheen of liquid clings to his bottom lip.

Touch that arm. Kiss that scar. Taste those lips. None of these urges are new, but they’re heightened. Magnified. He watches me watching him, his gaze as probing as mine. What is he thinking?

Then the music changes.

A remix of Madonna’s “Holiday” plays, and Sawyer does Sawyer. He tips his head to the right, his shoulders following, then he pushes out his hip and rolls his torso through. The guy does body waves, alternating from side to side, like he’s in an eighties music video.

People stop. People look. People laugh.

I snort, an unattractive sound I make when my laughter takes over. Sawyer says it sounds like a hyena with sleep apnea. When I snort a second time, he dances harder, and I crack up. My belly aches as he gets into it, the entire room watching now.

I suck in a breath, place my empty glass on the table behind me, then clasp his shoulders. “What are you doing?”

He stops dancing. “Making things less weird.”

“Less? What about you channeling Paula Abdul is less weird?”

“Did you laugh?”

I grin.

Then he says, “I’m sorry.”

The music vibrates in my chest, or maybe it’s his proximity. “Sorry about what?”

“Last week, when you called, I was a dick. You caught me by surprise, and I didn’t handle it well. So, I’m sorry.”

His admission pumps through my core like helium, my body nearly weightless. The confession shouldn’t be surprising, not with how he speaks his mind, but it’s been a week of silence. I was losing hope things could return to the way they were, or progress past it. I step closer, so he can hear me over the noise. “Apology accepted, but do I get an explanation?”

He drags his gaze down my body. It’s a thorough perusal—intimate, penetrating—flames sparking along my skin. His eyes linger on me, but he doesn’t speak. He rolls the pinky ring on his left hand the way he does when he’s puzzling something out. An ache travels up my thighs, heat expanding below my ribs. The longer he stays quiet, the more my skin tingles.

Finally, he releases his ring and slides his hand over my lower back. He leans forward and whispers, “I’ve wanted to do very dirty things to you and with you since Aspen, but I care about you too much to act on it. Hence my dickishness and the weirdness.”
