The Dating Experiment (Emma Hart)

1.Get over my best friend’s brother.
2.Remember that I’m over him.
3.Prove I can date other people.

It should be easy.

It’s not.

Setting up a dating website with the guy I’ve been in love with since I was five wasn’t my smartest idea.

Especially since he’s my best friend’s brother — thankfully, she’s okay with the fact I’m pulling a Sandy and I’m hopelessly devoted to him.

Which is why it’s time to get over him.

So I do something crazy and ask Dominic Austin to find me a date. He does — if I find him one, too.

Since we own Stupid Cupid, it should be easy, right? And it is.

My date is perfect. His date is perfect. Everything is perfect.

Until he kisses me…

Three dates.

One kiss.

And a big-ass mess…

I’m a bit late to the party. I was supposed to have published this review days ago, but my schedule was crazy this week, and I wasn’t able to finish the book on time. So, it’s finally here.

I have to admit that I had a little trouble getting through this book. I loved book 1 on this series, but Dom and Chloe faught a lot… A LOT! And while I appreciated it at times, it became too much right from the start. I couldn’t see how they could be in love with each other, and I also couldn’t quite understand why none of them had ever said anything.

I felt like the book developed slowly, and the writing, though funny, couldn’t completely keep me captivated. I did enjoy the last third of the book, only then was I able to see all the potential in this coupling, and I started to enjoy Dom and Chloe’s interactions.

I wish I had seen more of them as a couple though, I also would have liked to see more character development. Or even more of the characters in general. Most of their page time was yelling expletives at each other, or thinking about each other, and I felt like I didn’t get to completely know the people behind it.

Either way, it was a fun read, but I was expecting a bit more.

I’m having a month full of Max Monroe’s books, and I’m loving it. I’ve been reading the Billionaire Bad Boys series and it’s awesome and so much fun. I wish I had finished that series already before heading into this one, because I would have appreciated it even more.

Either way, this book was fantastically fun again, the writing is just superb.

Once again, I really appreciated the characters, but I loved Six more than anything. She’s so fun and outgoing, and unapologetically herself, which is something she shares with Cassie, Sean’s sister, but in a slightly different kind of way. I really loved her relationship with the team, and the friendships she develops with the guys. I also liked Sean, but I somehow felt like he wasn’t fully fleshed out. I loved his cocky attitude, but I felt like something was lacking.

And I think it has to do with the romance, to be honest… I loved these 2 together. Six challenged Sean in an awesome way, and their chemistry was off the charts. But I wanted them to actually have “normal” interactions. I felt like they were always to worried to not show their true feelings, that they very rarely did. I need more of them together, being themselves, being open, I would have liked to see their feelings show. I know the whole plot was not that, but it somehow brought the book a bit down for me.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sneaking around thing, it was fun at first, but it got old pretty fast. I liked the conflict, but again, I wished the resolution would have been slightly different, but it was still satisfying enough.

Overall, another amazing book by Max Monroe, and a great addition to this series. Read it, it’s worth it.

Release Day: Bad Boy Brody (Tijan)

One punch took him from Hollywood’s Golden Boy to Bad Boy Brody.

The media didn’t care he was grieving his brother’s death. They descended on him, but to change his reputation, his manager got him a deal.

Act in an indie film, one that already had Oscar buzz, and he’d get the movie roles he needed to secure his future.

He took the deal.

Yet he wasn’t prepared for the real-life people behind the script. He wasn’t prepared for the murder the movie was based on. And he really wasn’t prepared for her, the biggest secret of all.

She was wild. She was beautiful. She defied gravity.

But was she the leading role that would tame him?

Guys, go get this book today. You can see my full review of it HERE.

I obviously gave it 5 stars…

Burning Up (Jennifer Blackwood)

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Blackwood fans the flames of desire in her smoking-hot series about firefighters and the women who want them…

Unemployed schoolteacher Erin Jenkins is back in Portland, the town she hasn’t called home for more than a decade. It’s not the way she wants to spend her last days of summer: in between jobs and avoiding her mother’s snooping by escaping to the ice-cream aisle. But when the opportunity arises for her to accompany her brother’s best friend — her lifetime crush — to a wedding, summer gets a whole lot more interesting.

Firefighter and single dad Jake Bennett has built a nice, safe wall around his heart — no romance, no getting burned. That doesn’t mean he’s ruling out a fling. Considering Erin’s visit is temporary, they’re the perfect fit for a scorching no-strings one-night stand. Or two. Or five. Until the worst thing happens: Erin and Jake are feeling more. Damn that four-letter word.

Now their hearts are on the line, and when their smoldering summer comes to a close, it’s going to be harder than ever to put out the fire.

I’ve read a few books by Jennifer Blackwood, but I have to say that the writing on this one didn’t really please me.

I was a little taken aback by the fact that this book is told on the 3rd person. I didn’t like it at all. There is still the dual POV, as we get to see both sides of the story, but this was the sort of situation that the 3rd person POV didn’t work at all. This book would have had a lot to gain if it was told on the first person.

The pacing was also off. It took ages for the book to develop. The slow pacing combined with the 3rd person POV, made the book extra slow!

I liked the characters. I’m crazy for single dads, and Jake has a teen daughter, so extra points. I liked his personality, and I loved that he had his priorities straight. I also liked Erin, though I had a harder time identifying with her. I understood her need to get away and all that, but at the same point, I didn’t. She has her best friends close to home, she didn’t make an effort to actually get along with her family, …, I just felt like she was a bit over dramatic at times.

I did enjoy their romance and their connection, though it was a bit of instalust/instalove. I liked the fact that they had known each other since forever, but I thought that it could have been made better. The fact that he was her brother’s BFF should have been emphasised, and the connection between them should have been brought up from the past. However, most of their connection steamed from a more recent thing, and I thought it had potential, but it ended up not living up to it.

Overall it’s an okay book, but when I read the blurb I was expecting something utterly different and more engaging. I’m sad I didn’t get that. I’m going to take a break from this author, I haven’t been enjoying the writing, and maybe it’s just not for me.

Cold (Max Monroe)

I wanted a second chance. What I got was a repeat.

She was too beautiful. Too smart. And her emerald green eyes saw too much.

I wanted space — she took it away.
I craved her lips — she gave me her kiss.
I screwed it up — she got smart.

Avoiding me is the right thing to do. I’m messed up, tortured, and probably always will be.
But I still want her.
Her mind. Her body. Her heart.
I want it all.

And this time, I’m in control.
No matter what I have to do, I will make her mine.

Note: Levi and Ivy’s story will continue in Book Three — Fox.

Disclaimer: Pregnant women and people with health conditions should use caution when reading Cold. Early readers complain of dehydration due to the inability to stop reading to rehydrate, occurrences of near heart-stopping angst and fevers stemming from too much sexual tension heat.

Disclaimer for the disclaimer: This is a book, not a ride at an amusement park, and is no actual threat to your health.

First of all, I’m gonna say that you cannot read this book without reading Stone first. And when you finally get to this one, be prepared and protect your heart. You will need some tea to calm yourself down.

The writing is again so appealing. This book is also told in dual POV and the voices are, again, super different and unique.

There was so much character growth on this book, especially from Levi Fox. I have to say that what was revealed about his past and his connection to Grace didn’t surprised me one bit, but I thought the back story was very well constructed, and I loved to see his feelings for Ivy develop. Ivy is still amazing, and while she spends a lot of this book angry with everyone around her, she learns how to deal with her feelings and she accepts her feelings for Levi in the process.

The story definitly took a turn, and I have to say I saw it coming, but it was still highly entertaining. I’m not sure how everything will be tied up in the end, and I kind of wish that the suspense would have been carried out to the third book, but I’m super excited to see where this is going.

Overall, another amazing addiction to this series, and I can’t wait for the 3rd book and where it will take us.

Hurts to Love You (Alisha Rai)

Being bad never felt so good, in the third novel in Alisha Rai’s sexy Forbidden Hearts series!

Well-behaved women don’t lust after men who love to misbehave.

Heiress Evangeline Chandler knows how to keep a secret… like her life-long crush on the tattooed hottie who just happens to be her big brother’s friend. She’s a Chandler, after all, and Chandlers don’t hook up with the help. Then again, they also don’t disobey their fathers and quit their respectable jobs, so good-girl rules may no longer apply.

Gabriel Hunter hides the pain of his past behind a smile, but he can’t hide his sudden attraction to his friend’s sheltered little sister. Eve is far too sweet to accept anything less than forever and there’s no chance of a future between the son of a housekeeper and the town’s resident princess.

When a wedding party forces Eve and Gabe into tight quarters, keeping their hands off each other will be as hard as keeping their clothes on. The need that draws them together is stronger than the forces that should shove them apart… but their sparks may not survive the explosion when long-buried secrets are finally unearthed.

Hey guys. I feel like I’ve been failing on blogging. I haven’t been writing posts as much as I think I should, but I’ve just been so tired and so lazy!

Either way, let’s start this review. I requested this book on Edelweiss because Lisa, Nick and Ari were raving about this author, so when I saw the book for request, I jumped on it. I have to say that I should have read the other 2 books on the series first, because I felt like a lot of info was being thrown at me. But I was able to understand everything, which speaks volumes about the writing.

You guys know I’m not the biggest fan of 3rd person, but I enjoyed the style, and the fact that it was told in dual POV, even though it was not told on my favorite way (1st person). I liked the voices, and I enjoyed the characters as well. Here I felt like I could have used more info, and background, but both Eve and Gabe had enough character development, and I did enjoy their growing relationship, that evolved the same way as their personal growth and romantic relationship.

I really really liked all the dynamics and the connections between the 2 main families, and that, combined with the secrecy vibe that the book had going on, made me really enjoy it, and made me want to pick up the rest of the series.

Have you read this series? And this book? What were your thoughts?
