Review Blitz: The Room Mate (Kendall Ryan)

theroommate

The last time I saw my best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he’s broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I’m holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There’s no way I’m going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

This was my first Kendall Ryan, and as soon as I read the blurb, I knew I wanted to read it, because that blurb is promising as hell :).

This was a cute friends-to-lovers/forbidden romance book, but while I enjoyed it, I wasn’t exactly blown away. The writing was good, the pacing was fast and the book flowed well, and it being dual POV was a big plus for me. But I thought that the pacing was just too fast, you know?

One thing I absolutely loved was the fact that Paige was older than Cannon, because that’s not that common in romances. I did like the characters, though I felt that Paige wasn’t as well developed and Cannon. I did appreciate Cannon’s strong will and his sense of obligations and family. Also, the guy is training to be a doctor… that’s kind of hot!

I love the concept of friends and roommates falling in love, so I did like that part of the plot, but I did think that things happened a little fast, and I kind of expected a little bit more from Paige somehow. I did think they had chemistry and I did like their relationship, but I kind of wish it hadn’t turned sexual right away, because even though they had known each other for a long time, and knew each other well, I wanted to see more of that connection, and not just the sexy bits.

The book is super short and fast, I do think that it could have used a few more pages and have more development.

I also wasn’t the biggest fan of some plot issues and some side characters, but the book was still very enjoyable, and I’m curious to read more from Kendall Ryan, so I’ll make sure to do just that.

Roommates (Erin Leigh)

roommates

Life is full of expectations.

For Brady Coldwell it’s always been about the game. Hockey is and always will be, his life. His family sacrificed everything to get him here and he won’t let them down. He knows what’s expected of him.

Natalie Banks is no different. She too knows what it means to have everyone sacrifice for you. She knows about the debt that’s left owing in the end and the price you pay for making up your own mind.

But when an innocent mistake lands them as roommates, neither of them is prepared for the feelings they have or the consequences of their actions. How do you negotiate matters of the heart? How do you say no when it simply feels so right?

I think I have a problem right now. Blurbs mention the word hockey, and I’m suddenly all over them… it’s very serious people!

Either way… this was such a cute contemporary romance! I really enjoyed it. The writing was simple but fun, full of comical situations.

Brady and Natalie were such a good match. Brady was not the easiest character to like right away, but he grows on you, and the same goes for Nat. But they do have an amazing relationship, very much based on friendship, no matter how much they were attracted to each other from the start.

I did really like the progression of the story, I felt like there wasn’t unnecessary drama and for the most part, they acted like the adults they were. I also loved how supportive they were of each other, never putting their relationship in front of what is best for the other.

If there was one thing I wasn’t the hugest fan of was of Nat’s lifestyle and friends. I could have done without some of those things. I also felt that the book left a lot of things open, mainly the relationships of the secondary characters, which made me think that maybe this was supposed to be a first novel in a series… maybe?!

So, if you like a good contemporary New Adult romance, give this one a try 😉 .

April TBR

april_TBR

Hello 😀 . Today I’ll show you my TBR for this month. In March I managed to read 22 books by some miracle. Granted, one was a super short novella and another one was a short story, but still, it was the most I ever read in a single month, and most books were finished in the span of 24 hours. So, I hope I have a similarly awesome reading month in April, though I won’t aim that high, because that’s crazy.

I’m going for 15 books, of which 2.5 of them are already finished (yes, it’s still the 3rd day of the month…).

AprilTBR

  1. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig – Me and Cátia are both about halfway through with this book. It’s good, but neither of us has been in the mood for it.
  2. Changing His Game (The Reynolds Brothers, #1) by Justine Elvira – I actually finished this book already (and I was so disappointed).
  3. Roommates by Erin Leigh – And I finished this one already too…
  4. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – This beauty will be a buddy read with Kat @Life and Other Disasters and Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much. After weeks of waiting, Cátia is finally getting her book on monday, and we will begin this journey. It will probably take us a bit to get through it, but we will!
  5. Once Upon a Dream (Twisted Tales #2) by Liz Braswell – I didn’t like the first one a bit, but I’ll give this one a shot.
  6. Catch You (Love Me, I’m Famous 0.5) by M.H. Soars – Warning, the next 5 book are buddy reads with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, because we love to request the same ARCs on Netgalley.
  7. The One That Got Away (Kingston Ale House #1) by A.J. Pine – Another ARC I’m reading with Cátia
  8. Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance (Creative HeArts #3) by Shellee Roberts – And another one… I’m so excited for this one, because I read the second book of this series last month.
  9. Pieces of You and Me by Erin Fletcher – Another ARC I’m reading with Cátia.
  10. That Thing Between Eli and Gwen by J.J. McAvoy – And another!
  11. Tone Deaf by Olivia Rivers – The author asked me if I would like to read and review her book… hells YES! (Kat @Life and Other Disasters is also reading this one…)
  12. Anything You Want by Geoff Herbach – Me and Kat @Life and Other Disasters are finally getting to this one. And Sara @Freadom Library is joining us 😀
  13. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover – I’m going to Portugal later this month, which means I’ll finally be able to buy CoHo’s ebooks!!! (Kindle store’s prices differ from Portugal to Spain, and they’re way nicer at home).
  14. The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years #1) by Sarina Bowen – I bought this book this month (for free), so I’m hoping I get some time to get to it. Everybody says wonders of Sarina Bowen, and I fell in love with Him and Us.
  15. #Junkie (GearShark #1) by Cambria Hebert – I stumbled upon this book by accident, and after loving  Him and Us so much, I think I’ll enjoy this one as well.

This is what I plan to read this month of April, I might not get to all the books, but I’ll try to finish all my ARCs – the goal on Netgalley keeps beeing the 80% ratio… not far now.

I also think that some books will take a little bit of time, such as Lady Midnight. Not only is the book huge, but buddy reading implies that we have to keep a steady pace between the 3 of us 😉 .

Versatile Blogger Award

blogaward_2

Hello! Today I’m doing the Versatile Blogger Award. I was nominated by Beth @betwixt-the-pages, Jesse @Books at Dawn, Trang and Lashaan @Bookidote, Deanna @A Novel Glimpse and Inês @MsCarrowl. Thank you guys!!!

  3. Share 7 different facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 blogs of your choice
  5. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.

I have written so many posts with facts about myself, that today I’m doing this a bit differently. I’m going to say 7 things that really piss me off about living with other people. 😀 – Just to give you some context, I share a house with 3 other people!

1. I hate when my roommate, the only one that shares a bathroom with me, leaves the bathroom a mess. This includes hair EVERYWHERE, the bath mat all crumples, and make up stains everywhere in the sink… bah!

2. I hate that there are 4 of us living in the same house, but two of those don’t think it’s their job to take out the trash.

3. I hate that one of my roommates lacks the ability to do dishes properly… I mean, dude, it’s not hard! When you clean them, make sure that you really clean them! I’m so tired that everytime I put away the cutlery and dishes, some have to end up in the sink again, because they weren’t washed properly. And YES! I know which of my roommates does it.

4. I hate that one of them sees problems with everything and complicates things way out of proportion.

5. I hate that some of them leave the kitchen a mess when they use it. I mean, bread crumbs everywhere. Tomato juice on the counters. Bahhh, people, is it that hard to clean after yourselves?!

6. Speaking of kitchen, where do you guys think the dishwasher detergent comes from?

7. I hate when I go to get a plate and there aren’t any in the cupboard. Why you ask? Well… we are four, and we have about 10 flat dishes, and sometimes most of them are MIA… yeah, they are usually in one of my roommate’s room… the same guy who has trouble doing the dishes properly. Don’t really know why…

To sum it up, I kind of hate living with people I’m not friends with. And we don’t share enough house space and time to actually become friends. This things piss me off, big time.

This was a little something different from the other awards :P, it was just men venting away 😀
