Sailor Moon Book Tag

Hi guys! If you don’t know yet, I’m a huge fan of Sailor Moon, so when I saw this tag at Rayna @ReaderRayna‘s blog, I just had to do it! This tag was created by Kristin @Super Space Chick, Alexa @Alexa Loves Books, Cee @The Novel Hermit, Cristina @Girl in the Pages, and Sierra @SDavReads.

Moon: A book that makes you hungry

The reasons for Simon Snow wanting to go back to school were mostly FOOD! So, how can one read Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and not think of food and being hungry?

Mercury: A book that features science and technology

I love Ami and Sailor Mercury 😀 – look at her! Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff takes place in space, and has several elements of science and technology.

Venus: A book that makes you want to play video games

I think the only logical answer for this question is Ernest Cline, and because I’ve only read Armada so far, I’m saying that. I really liked this book 😉 .

Mars: A book inspired by mythology or folklore

Rei Hino was for a long time my favorite Sailor Scout. I loved how she would give shit to Usagi, eheh. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is a retelling of Hades and Persephone, so it has some elements of mythology.

Jupiter: A book that gave you strong feelings

Then Makoto Kino (a.k.a. Sailor Jupiter) got there, and she stole my heart. I mean, this girl cooks and kicks ass? What’s not to love about her? Back to the question… Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma gave me SUPER STRONG FEELINGS! So much so, that I haven’t been able to write its review yet…

Saturn: A post apocalyptic book you love

I’m not a huge fan of post apocalyptic books, but I absolutely loved Angelfall by Susan Ee, and I highly recommend this trilogy to everyone. The story is great, but the characters are absolutely amazing!

Pluto: A time travel book

Sailor Pluto… eheh, should we talk about her massive crush on King Endymion?! The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig is much more than a time travel book, but it works for this question perfectly 😉 .

Uranus: A book featuring elemental magic

Sailor Uranus, or Haruka Tenoh, was always one of my favorite characters in this show. I loved her sass, and her confidence, and I loved (and still do) her relationship with Michiru. So it’s only fitting to use Heir of Fire for this question, where 2 of my favorite book characters EVER have elemental powers.

Neptune: A book featuring music

Oh Michiru ❤ ! Loud is How I Love You by Mercy Brown features a LOT of music, given that the main character and her love interest are part of a band, and they write together too.

Tuxedo Mask: A book with masquerades or hidden identities

I’m so glad that in the new anime Mamoru revealed his identity as Tuxedo Mask to Usagi way earlier in the game, because come on… it was so obvious! In The Girl’s Got Secrets by Linda Kage, the main character pretends to be a boy to be able to get the gig as a band’s drummer. Things get tricky when she falls in love with her frontman.

Rini/Chibi Moon: A favorite middle grade book

I haven’t read a lot of middle grade, so I’m going with the most obvious answer of all, and say Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling.

Luna, Artemis & Diana: A book for animal lovers

How cute are Luna, Artemis and Diana? Either way, Wallbanger by Alice Clayton has the most amazing cat ever in books :D.

Blast From The Past: Animated Series From My Childhood

Today I bring you a different kind of Blast From the Past. Instead of musics, I present to you the animated series that were a huge part of my life while growing up.

I loved the X-Men animated series. It was the thing that made me buy comics and get into the whole superheroes thing.

Sailor Moon

I was obsessed with Sailor Moon, actually, I still am. I saw it every single day, in Portuguese, Spanish and Galician… crazy, right?

Samurai X

I need to re-watch Samurai X, I had a blast watching this.

Attack No. 1

Did I ever mention how much I love Volleyball? Well, I do, and I loved this anime too.

Ace wo Nerae

In Portuguese the girl’s name was Maria, and I loved to watch this for the romance 😀 .

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds

Ok, honesty time, I know the whole theme in Portuguese, by heart. We used to have to sing it in college pranks 😀 . I always loved “Dartacão e os três Moscãoteiros“.

The Three Musketeers (Sanjushi)

I loved this one and I used to watch it when I was 5/7 years on the school breaks. The great this about it was how Aramis was actually a girl. What a game changer!

Given that my blog is called My Tiny Obsessions, today I’ll share 5 small obsessions that I had throughout my life:

1. Tribal Wars – From sometime between 2008 and 2009 I was highly addicted to Tribal Wars, which is medieval strategy game. It started when my boyfriend (at the time, now ex) and our group of friends started playing. At the time he gave me one account he had just created and taught me the rules. Soon enough I had a super high level and was managing several villages (like a lot), in several different Worlds of the game and belonged to several Tribes. This implied launching attacks at all hours of the day (and night) and spending several hours building buildings and troops… good times.

2. Body Training Systems (BTS) & Gym in general – I started to go regularly to my local gym when I was 17, at the time with 3 friends, 2 of which gave up pretty soon, but 2 of us stuck to it! We started going a few times a week, but soon it became a daily event, and soon after that I was going to the gym for at least 2 classes a day, 6 to 7 days a week… Damn, I would wake up on Saturday morning to be at the 10 a.m. class, and I would be there until 1p.m. – GOOD OLD DAYS! Body Combat was always my favorite thing, so much that I knew most of the routines for all the tracks and didn’t even need to look at our instructor… Body Combat was something that I did at least 3 times a week…

It would go something like this: Monday – Body Pump, Body Combat; Tuesday – Body Balance, Funk/Hip-Hop, Body Combat (and sometimes Body Attack after); Wednesday – Body Pump, Body Combat; Thursday – Body Pump, Funk/Hip-Hop, Body Combat; Friday – Body Jam, Body Attack; Saturday – Body Balance, Body Jam, Body Combat (and sometimes Body Pump), Sunday – Body Combat (weakest day). Are you tired yet? Because I am, I have no idea how I managed to do all that, but I did and it felt great, and stopping was the worst thing I ever did.

3. The Sims – For a brief period in 2010 and then in 2012, I was completely addicted to The Sims 3. Building stuff was always my favorite part. I do own most of the expansions for The Sims 3, and I have The Sims 4, but it’s not the same…

4. Sailor Moon – ‘Till these days all my cousins (all male and younger than me), know that if Sailor Moon was on, they would have to watch it, or else… I loved it, I was completely obsessed and it lasted several years. I would watch all episodes that aired in the portuguese TV, and given that at the time I lived very closed to Spain and got all the spanish channels, I would record SM on TV Galicia and TVE, because spanish episodes were more recent than those airing in Portugal. Each day I would come home from school and watched the recorded episodes… every day! I had them all. I recently watched all the episodes and movies, that anime was a gem!

5. Baywatch – Baywatch would air every summer, and again, my cousins knew better than to mess with my TV hours… 6 p.m. was Baywatch time, religious! I loved it. I can probably still remember most of the characters and season arcs…

Still my favorite season…

Sailor Moon Crystal – Act 8: Minako

That was a long break… it has been a few months since I last wrote about Sailor Moon Crystal. Traveling, work and stuff got in the way of actually watching the episodes, so I just left them accumulate a bit. On my way from SP to LIS, I was finally able to catch a couple of episodes, so here we go again!

Sailor V is in the house… too bad everyone thinks she’s the Princess… I mean, really people?! I know she looks like Serenity, but it’s pretty obvious throughout this episode that’s she’s hiding something… big.

Minako feels like protecting the Princess is her responsibility, so she withholds the truth from Usagi, which doesn’t go really well.

This episode is heavy on Sailor Venus, but it has some pretty nice Usagi/Mamoru moments, such as when they agree to exchange the tokens they have from one another, or when she kisses him in the middle of battle… or, my sad favorite, when he jumps in front of her to save her from Kunzite… oh Endymion…

I’m really digging their relationship in this anime, although I will admit that it felt somehow more “real” in the original one, because of all the bickering that lead to it.

Sailor Moon Crystal – Act 7: Mamoru Chiba

What a romantic episode! I can’t believe we waited 46 episodes on the first anime for Mamoru and Usagi to get together, and now, on episode 7, here they are, professing their love for each other. I loved it!

Things I really loved about this episode:

  • Everything about Usagi and Mamoru! Everything!
  • Sailor V!!! Minako is here people! And guess what?! She orders Luna around and it’s funny as hell!
  • Any similarities between Umino and Doctor Tomoe are a pure coincidences… right?!

  • I guess Queen Beryl has her own agenda… she won’t give the Silver Crystal to Queen Metalia willingly… so, that will be interesting!
  • Mamoru socket punches Zoisite – I love Zoisite, come on, he’s my favorite baddie, but that felt good!
  • Mamoru says that Usagi is more important that the Silver Crystal… considering that it’s the only memory he’s got, that’s pretty huge.

  • Did I mention Minako? Venus? Artemis?! They both save the day… they’re coming… (tough Mina is not my favorite senshi, Artemis IS my favorite Cat!) =D !!!

(Venus?! Did you lost your tiara?! =| )

I’m loving this reboot, loving it, I love the pace of it, I only miss the bonding time between the girls, and now, with Venus being introduced in the next act, I hope we get some more girl time.

Sailor Moon Crystal just got epic!

I’ve been loving SMC so far. How could I not? It’s my childhood anime, I always loved it, to this day my cousins recall how I would stop anything to watch it and record it, and then watched it again.

But since act 5, SMC has broken completely free from the previous anime and has gained a life of its own, and man, it’s epic! The introduction of Mako-chan was amazing and with much more depth to it than the original run (which I saw only yesterday!), but this week’s episode took the anime in a whole different way, by introducing Tuxedo Mask properly in just the 6th episode (and giving Mamoru’s back story in the 7th, in a couple of weeks).

By the way, I reckon this guy right here is the source of my “black hair/blue eyes” fantasy… and he just got cuter on this one…

But act 6 was about a lot more than introducing Tuxedo Mask, was about deepening his bond with Usagi, and Usagi coming to her own in her new role as the team leader.

I loved that although Minako wasn’t introduced yet, her presence was strong in this episode. She told Usagi that she believes in her and later, when Usagi is dreaming (in Mamoru’s bed, might I had), Minako’s is the first face she sees (along with Artemis).

SMC_6_7 SMC_6_5

I love that Mamoru actually took Usagi to his bed (forward much?!) and that it didn’t take her a long time to realize that they are one and the same!

Can’t wait for Act 7, when Mamoru will ter Usagi his life story. 😀 😀 😀

Sailor Moon Crystal: Makoto Kino

I’m over a week late, but whatever, Makoto Kino a.k.a. Sailor Jupiter has arrived to Sailor Moon Crystal, and man, it was glorious!

Confession time here: I’m biased towards Jupiter, she’s my favorite Sailor! I love that they captured in this episode everything that makes her so amazing and different. They were able to portray her strong side, a warrior as well as a feminine girl, who loves to make and sew and is in love with the idea of love.

And how is it that Usagi is even more amazing in this new anime than in the first one?! She’s amazing! And not even mention the fact that she has crushes on all her friends: “oh, Ami is so smart” and “Rei is so beautiful” and “Makoto smells so nice!”… really girl, get a grip!

I’m loving it!

A much needed Saturday!

When did Saturday became my most awaited day on TV? Usually there’s nothing good on TV on saturdays, but hey, now we have Doctor Who, Outlander and Sailor Moon!!! =D

Man, I’m in real need of a day off! Between working all of August, having a conference, and lot of deadlines, I’m exhausted… I’m so looking forward to a day of doing nothing and playing Sims 4 (if I ever manage to get over the error that the website is giving me when I try to buy the game).

Still, I’m being too optimistic here, I have 2 days to present results I haven’t obtained yet, and 5 days to present a yearly report that I haven’t finished, so my best guess is that I’ll end up working most of the day, whether here or at the lab.

So… here is to a good day, a good Saturday (I’m not even being ambitious enough to ask for a whole weekend…). I just have to hold on for 5 more days, then I’ll be home for a brilliant amount of 4 days!! Eheh! 4 days of running around in Portugal, I’ll wager I’ll get here on the 15th more tired than the day I’ll leave 😉 !!!!

Sailor Moon Crystal: Sailor Mars has landed!

The third episode of Sailor Moon Crystal is upon us, and with it, the introduction of Rei Hino, a.k.a, Sailor Mars!

Sailor Mars was my first favorite Senshi (then Sailor Jupiter came along and she was renegated to a second place…), so this episode left me giggling all the way through 🙂 !!!

Now, 3 episodes in, we have all our core Sailors and next week we’ll have the ball =D ! I’m loving the pace of the new anime, and more than anything I’m loving the interactions between Usagi and Mamoru.

Now, how long will we have to wait for Jupiter?!
