The Varlet and the Voyeur (L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid)

BANNER-BlogTour.jpg

The Varlet and the Voyeur, an all-new standalone in the USA Today bestselling Rugby Series from Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway is available NOW!

Review:

He kept his salacious secret for years. But soon, everyone is going to be reading about it in their morning paper…

THE VARLET (and the VOYEUR)
William Moore is a long way from home. A farm boy from Oklahoma, he’s now the most well-respected member of the Irish rugby team. But appearances are often deceptive, and Will isn’t the clean-cut, all-American good-guy everyone imagines him to be. He’s got a secret, one that will tarnish his reputation forever.

THE VOYEUR (and the VARLET)
Josey Kavanagh is a self-proclaimed mess, but she’s finally getting her shi… uh, act together. She’s set her sights on becoming a veterinarian, but there’s one teeny tiny road bump. Her living arrangements are coming to an abrupt end, leaving Josey homeless and in need of a job to pay her way through college.

THE PLAN
What he needs is a companion to keep him on the right path.

What she needs is an apartment with free rent.
Will is convinced Josey will make the perfect companion, since she’s brutally honest and basically ‘just one of the guys.’ Josey is convinced she can ensure Will doesn’t succumb to his voyeuristic proclivities by keeping a scrupulous eye on him.
Except, what happens when the varlet is tempted by the voyeur, and vice-versa?!
Perchance something very, very volatile. And vexing.

The Varlet and the Voyeur is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the 4th (and last) book in the USA TODAY bestselling Rugby Series.

Guys, I’m so happy about this book! I have to say, I didn’t feel like the story was perfect, but the main characters stole my heart, and made me enjoy it even more.

Having already read/listened to the rest of the series, I already knew that I was going to love the writing on this one, and I was not disappointed. I found this one even funnier. Like the remaining books in the series, this one is told in dual POV, first person, and Will and Josey have super different voices, and it was so enjoyable to get the characters depth through their voices.

I loved Josey. I loved how loud she was, how she was so awkward and lacked social skills, I loved how she said whatever she was thinking. I saw myself in some of her traits to be honest. She just came through as genuine, and I couldn’t get enough of her.

On the other hand… I also loved Will. Yep, even though he was the opposite of Josey in so many ways, I loved how unapologetic he was about his beliefs and his choices. I have to admit though, that given his hangups and his trauma, I was expecting what happened to him in the past to be very very serious, and was a little disappointed by what it was revealed to be. But either way, I really liked him, and I appreciated how honest he was about what he needed.

These 2 really understood and got each other, and I really liked that there was no judgment from either side. There was a friendship before anything else, and I felt like the development of the romance was very well achieved.

I liked the plot for the most part, though I wish there had been more communication at some points. But I did understand the fear that both characters had at one point or the other. I couldn’t fully grasp Will’s trauma, like I mentioned above, but I tried to understand it.

LIVE02.jpg

Overall, it’s an amazing addition to this series, and I really enjoyed the new romance, as well as the opportunity to glimpse all the other couples in the series. So, guys, read this one, but enter it with an absolutely open mind. Give it a try.

Excerpt:

*Will*

When I saw how spotless the shared living space was, I allowed my curiosity to get the better of me and peeked my head into her bathroom, Rocky dancing around my feet as I entered the space. The counters were covered in woman-products, but the marble surface and sink were free of water spots, and the glass of the shower had been wiped clean.

I glanced at Rocky. He glanced at me. Bemused, I chuckled to myself, about to turn back to the door, and that’s when I spotted it.

A dildo.

A big, Pyrex dildo.

With ridges.

In the shower.

I froze, blinked, and I stared at it, my brain sluggish. Oddly, I had to remind myself to breathe. Likely because I was . . .

I was—

I was shocked.

I shook myself, tearing my eyes from it and rubbing my chest where an odd kind of pang was spreading mild warmth up my neck.

But why was I shocked?

Why should I be surprised?

Despite my never seeing her that way, Josey was a woman and women have needs.

Don’t they?

I hadn’t grown up around women — any women. My mother died when she had my youngest brother. My grandmother died before I was born. I had no sisters. We lived on a farm, way out in BFN Oklahoma.

Girls — women — and their bodies were sacred lands of the unknown to us Moore boys.

Unbidden — completely unbidden — an image of Josey flashed through my mind’s eye. Her full lips parted, her big eyes closed, causing her thick black lashes to catch droplets of water before they dripped over her sharp cheekbones. Her head would be lolled back as shower spray melted bubbles of slippery soap, sliding down her bare skin as they dissolved. Her legs would be parted, and maybe one hand would be braced against the wall of the shower while the other moved in a steady rhythm.

Holding that huge, glass dildo.

I swallowed a sudden rush of salvia and, unable to help myself, I leaned closer to the sex toy, examining it and comparing its size against my own.

I was bigger.

But not by much.

And for some reason, this realization made me instantly hard.

Crap.

Of course I knew Josey was a woman, but until this moment, I’d never really thought of her that way. Not even the tampon-mountain drove the point home. Up until this point, she was someone I liked as a person, someone who made me laugh, who was smart and compassionate, someone around whom I felt completely comfortable. A good — no, a great companion.

She was still all of those things, except—

Except now I’ve pictured her naked.

I’m having a month full of Max Monroe’s books, and I’m loving it. I’ve been reading the Billionaire Bad Boys series and it’s awesome and so much fun. I wish I had finished that series already before heading into this one, because I would have appreciated it even more.

Either way, this book was fantastically fun again, the writing is just superb.

Once again, I really appreciated the characters, but I loved Six more than anything. She’s so fun and outgoing, and unapologetically herself, which is something she shares with Cassie, Sean’s sister, but in a slightly different kind of way. I really loved her relationship with the team, and the friendships she develops with the guys. I also liked Sean, but I somehow felt like he wasn’t fully fleshed out. I loved his cocky attitude, but I felt like something was lacking.

And I think it has to do with the romance, to be honest… I loved these 2 together. Six challenged Sean in an awesome way, and their chemistry was off the charts. But I wanted them to actually have “normal” interactions. I felt like they were always to worried to not show their true feelings, that they very rarely did. I need more of them together, being themselves, being open, I would have liked to see their feelings show. I know the whole plot was not that, but it somehow brought the book a bit down for me.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sneaking around thing, it was fun at first, but it got old pretty fast. I liked the conflict, but again, I wished the resolution would have been slightly different, but it was still satisfying enough.

Overall, another amazing book by Max Monroe, and a great addition to this series. Read it, it’s worth it.

Blog Tour: Memphis (Ginger Scott)

We’re celebrating the release of Memphis by Ginger Scott!

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it — he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.

I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

Goodreads | Amazon | Google Play | Kobo

Ginger Scott did it again. It’s official, she’s one of my favorite writers. So far, I’ve loved everything she put out into the world, and find her writing better and better.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, because boxing is not my favorite sport to watch, and it’s something I didn’t know I would feel about reading, but I really enjoyed the world created here, and the way that everything is described. I felt like I understood, and that speaks to Ginger Scott’s amazing writing abilities.

Once again, the characters were so amazing and complex. I loved Memphis, and how good and pure he was. I loved that he sought meaning and tried to see the best in people, especially given is rough upbringing. And I wanted to wrap Liv up in my arms and never let her go, because she deserved so much better than the family she had. The Valentines were horrible horrible people, and I wanted them all to burn in hell.

Miles was another character I absolutely loved. Miles, Liv and Memphis deserved the best. They were such complexe characters and so well written. They had layers and layers of depth, and I loved them to death.

The story had a lot of twists and things I did not see coming. I really enjoyed the plot and the pacing as well. There were a few things I wish the book had gone more into detail about, but it didn’t detract from the fact that it was a beautifully told story. And some questions that I wish had been answered too…

Overall, another fantastic book by Ginger Scott, and I highly recommend it.

Excerpt:

I turn so our feet are squared and glance at his home that I think he probably knows I went through while he was gone. Somehow the money he paid for it seems not enough and too much all at once. My gaze shifts back to his, and he steps forward until the toe of his left shoe rests against the right side of mine.

“That’s a nice story, Memphis. I’m glad you found the bike, but I’m not sure what that has to do with me,” I say, my breath catching as his fingertips trace along my jaw, his touch so faint I find myself leaning my head to encourage his palm to rest along my cheek more boldly.

He brings his other hand up with more confidence, and I’m caught. The other option I had, to walk away, is gone. I never really wanted it, though.

Memphis dips his chin, hunching slightly to bring his eyes in line with mine. We’re so close that I can feel the tickle of his breath against my lips, and they tingle at the familiar. Each experience with him weaves itself into my heart in this way that terrifies me. This is how people lose themselves.

But I let it in — each breath, each sound, the smells and words. His story. I am surviving on the very being of him, and I think I have been for a while now.

“I was eighteen when I tracked down that bike. I knew it was mine…”

“I don’t belong to you, Memphis,” I cut in, my heart pounding.

His mouth forms a crooked smile. He holds my eyes hostage in silence for few long seconds. “Maybe it works the other way,” he says, his eyes moving over my face with a softness that feels intimate and vulnerable. His forehead falls forward until it rests gently on my own, and I let go of the grip I have on myself, exchanging it for fistfuls of his T-shirt. My knuckles run along his chest as I gather the material and close my eyes, his muscles hard from discipline.

“I can’t watch you get hurt. I can’t…”

His hand moves to my chin, and he lifts it until our eyes meet. Suddenly, breathing just got a lot harder to do.

“I won’t lose, Liv. I work too hard, and I study too much, and I will never be in a ring I’m not supposed to be in,” he says, and I breathe out what sounds like a laugh but feels like hurt.

“My fifty-year-old uncle kicked your ass in some display of alpha-male, teacher-student bullshit. I couldn’t watch that…how am I supposed to watch you step in with some guy who really wants to kill you? How am I supposed to kiss you knowing that your lips might never be the same after a fight. How…”

Memphis’s mouth takes mine before I can protest anymore, nothing like our stolen moment from earlier. His hands cup my face and his mouth moves possessively over my bottom lip, sucking it in and letting it slide loose through a graze of his teeth. He turns my head with a gentle nudge and kisses me deeper, and his hands fall from my face in long, possessive drags down my shoulders to my waist, stopping with his thumbs just above my hips and his fingers splayed out around my sides.

My hands roam up his chest and neck until my thumbs run along the roughness of his chin, and my touch seems to somehow make him hungrier.

“My god.” He breathes the words against my lips, restraint giving way…

Brooklynaire (Sarina Bowen)

You’d think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You’d be wrong.

For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don’t know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.

When Rebecca gets hurt, I step in to help. It’s what friends do. But what friends don’t do is rip off each others’ clothes for a single, wild night together.

Now she’s avoiding me. She says we’re too different, and it can never happen again. So why can’t we keep our hands off each other?

Oh, we’ve waiting so long for this book, and I’m beyond happy that Sarina was able to give us the story that Becca and Nate deserved. I’ve loved these two since book 1, and I’ve been patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for them to get their turn. Well, it’s here, and it’s epic!

By now we’ve established that I love anything that Sarina Bowen writes, right?! But this book, contrary to the other books in this series, is told in the first person, and that made me love it even more. Also, it has a few chapters told in the third person, but they take place in the past, and they’re the cutest thing ever.

Dual POV + first person = AMAZING!

I fell even more in love with Rebecca and Nate, and I loved seeing them grow, seeing their relationship develop, and how they dealt with their feelings. The hurdles they went through, and how through it all they communicated and were there for each other. Both made mistakes, but they never let the issues linger long, and I absolutely adored that.

Their romance was the cutest thing, and I just wanted to squish them together and never let them part. That’s how adorable they were.

To conclude, another amazing book on this series, definitly my favorite of this bunch, and I really hope Sarina keeps telling us stories about this team, I see so much potential in some of the characters, and I don’t want this little universe to cease to exist. I want more of the team and I want to see them all happy and disgustingly in love.

so, if you haven’t picked up Brooklynaire today,
what are you waiting for?!

Blog Tour: Wildcat (Max Monroe)

Wildcat: a football formation in which the ball is snapped, not to the quarterback, but to another player lined up in the quarterback position.

Wild, Cat: a beautiful woman from the sky, who hooked me against the rails, and has me on the ropes. Sweet like honey, with a hint of sass burning behind her pretty brown eyes, she took over my heart without warning.

I’m Quinn Bailey, quarterback for the New York Mavericks.
Sports analysts predicted I’d break records and take my team all the way.

But no one predicted this.

And just like the other team, I never saw it coming.

Disclaimer:

Things this book is:
• Romantic Comedy
• #1 in the Mavericks Tackle Love Series
• Can be read as a complete standalone.

Things it isn’t:
• Paranormal: The only thing magical is inside Quinn Bailey’s pants.
• Boring: Pssh, please. Max Monroe doesn’t do boring.
• Short: Prior to reading, prepare yourself for one huge, long, thick…book.

Deanna told me several times to read something by Max Monroe, and I’m so glad I listened to her, because I absolutely loved Wildcat. The writing is amazing, and now I definitely want to pick up more books by this duo. It was the perfect mix and balance of comedy and swoony romance, so right up my alley.

I loved the 2 main characters, especially Quinn. It’s so refreshing to get an absolutely great guy as a romance hero, that was always a genuine good guy, and doesn’t mind fighting hard for the girl he likes. Quinn treated Cat like a princess right from the start, he knew what he wanted and he went after it, in the most sweet and amazing way. I also loved how he dealt with his fan base, and even his family, though his parents did not deserve it, to be honest. But his brother Devon stole my heart, and I want a book about him ASAP!

Catharine was such a beautiful and amazing woman. She took her time, but it was impossible not to fall for Quinn’s charms, and not to fall in love with him completely. She was such a strong and independent woman, and she always tried her best, and she was awesome.

As a reader, it was impossible not to fall in love with their connecting and their love for each other. The romance was slow to pick up pace, but when it did, it was full steam ahead. They were perfect together, even with all the difficulties they had to face.

I really liked the plot and the conflict. For awhile, I wasn’t quite seeing how a conflict was going to be introduced, because they seemed so amazing, but when it it, it was sad as s**t, and I wanted to murder someone. It reflects some truths about our society, and I loved how they were able to overcome it and become better because of it.

Overall, amazing experience, and one of my favorites for the year so bar. So yeah, go pick up Wildcat. I can’t wait to read all the other books in this serie, and hope against hope that a book about Devon (and maybe Casey) is coming our way.

REVIEW:

A sexy new forbidden romance from #1 NYT Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely  valuable pl

It seemed like a good idea at the time…

As the team’s publicist, I need a football player to be the face of our charity calendar, and Jones Beckett needs a savvy PR woman to manage his new sponsorship deal.

A simple give and take, and I’m sure I’ll have no problem following my iron-clad rule — don’t date a player. And never ever fall for one. No matter how charming, big-hearted and devilishly clever the man is.

But you know what they say about best laid plans…

Once I start spending my off-season days and nights with Jones, I’m following a brand new playbook, one that has me falling hard for the incorrigible flirt — heart, body and mind.

That’s against the rules, and now what seemed like a bright idea has turned into a dangerously forbidden one.

***

It was supposed to be an I-scratch-her-back-she-scratched-mine kind of arrangement. And man, did Jillian ever drag her nails down my back on one hell of a hot night. Okay fine, it was several hot nights on the road.

Now we’re back in town and it’s time to set the play clock back to when we were simply player and publicist. Given the way the last few years have gone, I can’t risk this deal. Trouble is, I want more than than just another night with her.

What’s a guy to do when he’s always been most likely to score, but the woman he’s falling for is way off limits?

MOST LIKELY TO SCORE is a brand new standalone sports romance written in dual POV!

Oh boy, another amazing book by Lauren Blakely. AMAZING!!! I’m always super excited to start one of her new stories, because they never let me down. This was also the second book in the Most Valuable Playboy series, so it was great to see the characters again.

The writing is once again great, and I loved that Blakely did this book in dual POV, because I needed both Jillian and Jones points of view to get the full story.

I loved both main characters. First of all, let me tell you something, Jillian is chinese! Yep, I had no idea until I started the story, but I loved her, and I loved how she embraced her ancestry. So good! She was amazing, so focused on her career, afraid of following her heart, but not letting it be in the way of her happiness. YES YES YES. And Jones? OMG, a big ball player cuddling with small animals… SWOON! And he was also so focused. I loved their love for their careers and the important role it played on the plot.

They were perfect for each other, and their relationship was born from true feelings and not just attraction, so YES!!! I loved these two together 😀 .

The plot is mostly the development of their relationship, and them realizing that their personal life and their feelings are important, and they deserve to take a chance on that, and not focus solely on their amazing careers. It was very well done, because the pacing was great, and the relationship was well developed.

So yeah, go read this book. NOW.

Excerpt:

✮ Jillian ✮

He runs his hand through his hair, flashing a lopsided grin then a wink. “Sorry. I meant are you my personal PR person now?”

That word zips through me like an electric charge. A light gust of wind blows my hair across my cheeks, and I tuck the strands behind my ear, grateful for the temporary distraction courtesy of San Francisco’s windy morning. I shiver lightly from the chill. “Yes, that seems to be the case, and I’m happy to do it.”

He cocks his head to the side. “Are you like my babysitter?”

My jaw drops. “What? No. No. No. That’s ridiculous. I’m not a babysitter.”

He arches a brow. “A nanny?”

I smirk. “Jones, I would hope you’ve outgrown the need for a nanny.”

“That’s up for debate, it seems. But maybe you’re my governess?”

I roll my eyes and gesture to the car at the curb. “I’m not your nanny, I’m not your babysitter, and I’m definitely not your governess. I’m here to help you create the best image possible. I can market, publicize, and help you manage putting the best foot forward,” I say, my tone earnest, my meaning important. “I believe in what I do. I know you’re a great guy, and I want the world to see what I’ve seen in the last couple days.”

“Yeah?”

“That’s why I said yes when Ford asked for my help. I’m not interested in being anyone’s au pair. I am very interested, though, in showing this city what good things our team does on and off the field. Including you.” I take a breath and try to read him. To understand what’s beneath the teasing. I think I know what it is. He wants a choice. “But if you don’t want me to help out, I’ll step back and we can stick to just the calendar. I told Ford I’d do this for your new deal, because I want to be the one to help you if you need it, and it’s the kind of help I can give. Since you signed the contract yesterday, and the folks at Paleo Pet are local, they want to stop by the shoot later today. Take some pictures, chat, and so on. I’m happy to be there by your side the whole time, making sure you’re comfortable with everything, and you’re represented in the best way possible. But if those aren’t your wishes, and if it isn’t what you need, then I’ll be hands-off. I hold up my palms as if I’m backing away.

In a heartbeat, he grabs my wrists. Possessively. A thrill rushes through me, like a drumbeat pulsing in my veins. I look away from him briefly. I can’t make eye contact when he does this, when he touches me. If I do, he’ll know. He’ll realize I’m just like all the other women who fling panties at him, who chase him down in bars, who line up at the players’ entrance to become his football floozy for the night. I won’t ever be someone’s football floozy, and I can’t let him see for a second that I want some of the same things those other women want from him. Him.

“Don’t be hands-off,” he says, his voice soft.

Hands down, my favorite thing in the world is to score. Touchdowns.

Don’t let the fact that I’m the leading pick in the MOST LIKELY TO SCORE charity auction fool you. These days, I’m only a player on the field. I’ve kept my pants zipped all season long — and it has been long — because nothing’s more important than leading my team to victory every week. Except maybe escaping from the team owner’s recently-widowed and handsy-as-hell sister who’s dead set on winning more than a date with me.

Enter Violet and a well-placed Hail Mary.

She’s my best friend’s sister with a smile as sweet as cherry pie and a mind that runs quicker than the 40-yard-dash. After Violet saves the day with the highest bid, I don’t even give her a two-minute warning before I kiss her in front of the whole crowd and then announce that she’s my girlfriend. Which would be fine except my agent tells me we have to keep up the act while he’s negotiating my contract.

Violet takes one for the team and pretends to be mine, but our boyfriend-girlfriend scrimmage quickly turns into a full contact sport, and I want it to go into overtime. The problem is — I’ve been riding the bench for years.

How can a guy like me, who finally has a chance to prove his worth on the field, convince the girl she’s most valuable to his heart?

MOST VALUABLE PLAYBOY is a brand new standalone sports romance written in the guy’s POV!

The Catch (K. Bromberg)

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.

He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

THE POSITIVE:

The writing. Once again, I loved the writing. I wish I had listened to this book right after I finished The Player, but either way, I truly enjoyed it.

This duology is fantastic! This second book has so much more depth to it. It explained everything, and tied all loose ends. Well done.

Again, the characters were fantastic, and I loved that this book went more into Scout and Easton’s relationship and their feelings towards each other.

THE NEGATIVE:

To be honest, the big negative for me was having to wait to learn the full story…

At a point there there was a bit too much drama for my liking. But I was glad that it was solved fairly quickly.
