My Top 20 TV Couples: 10 to 6

After last year’s Top 20 TV Couples, this year I’m making it a countdown. Numbers 20 to 16, and 15 to 11 are already posted, so here are the numbers 10 to 6…

10. River Song & the Doctor (Alex Kingston & Matt Smith) – Doctor Who

While he’s not my favorite Doctor, she’s my favorite “wife” and probably my favorite companion as well (at least for Matt’s Doctor, because she as a tough competition in Donna). For a highly asexual character, the Doctor sure gets his way with the ladies, going as far as to actually marry River Song. The amazing thing about them is not even what they do as husband and wife, mainly because they hardly see each other, but the great and unique chemistry that Alex Kingston has with her onscreen (and a lot younger) husband, Matt Smith. This makes them my favorite couple in Doctor Who!

“I can’t let you die without knowing you are loved — by so many and so much — and by no one more than me.”

“You are always here to me and I always listen.  And I can always see you.”

“They engineered a psychopath to kill you.” “Totally married her!”

9. Sheldon Cooper & Amy Farrah Fowler (Jim Parsons & Mayim Bialik) – The Big Bang Theory

Well, well, well… What a Valentine’s Day episode that was! What a kiss, Doctor Sheldon Cooper! Ok, this is a very different kind of couple, mainly because they have been together for 3 years and shared a great amount of 3 hugs, 3 kisses (but only one real), 1 spanking session and 1 virtual “Dungeons and Dragons” sexy time. Still, we know that Amy deserves a lot more (poor girl), and I do think that Sheldon will step up, in his own quirky way.

“I present to you the Relationship Agreement. A binding covenant that in its 31 pages enumerates, illuminates and codifies the responsibilities of Sheldon Lee Cooper (hereinafter referred to as the “Boyfriend”) and Amy Farrah Fowler (hereinafter referred to as the “Girlfriend).”

8. Robin & Barney (Cobie Smulders & Neil Patrick Harris) – How I Met Your Mother

This season of HIMYM has been mainly about them, oh, and the Mother off course! It’s their wedding weekend, and so far so good. We do know they get married, we already saw some images of after the wedding (Robin dancing with her father), and I’m hoping that it’s a happy marriage. Barney has proved so far that he’s ready for this big step, that he loves her more than anything, he turned from womanizer to a hopeless romantic… so cute to see!

Some reasons why they are so perfect for each other:

7. Lois & Clark (Erica Durance & Tom Welling) – Smallville

I appreciate these 2 even more since I saw the Man of Steel… I do not like that Lois Lane! Maybe because I like this one so much… yes, Erica Durance was everything I expect to see in Lois Lane: seriously bad-ass, sassy, smart, fearless, supporting, etc… and she’s all of this because of her man, her Clark! And I think Smallville nailed this. Not only was their chemistry off the charts, but they really made each other better. Lois and Clark (this L&C) are by bar my favorite coupling in any Superman story.

“I wanted these vows to be perfect, but perfection’s a hard thing to get your hands on. But life is meant to be a little messy. And when it comes to love, it’s like my dad always said when it comes to the army. You only sign up if it’s the only thing you can ever imagine doing, and Clark I can not imagine spending a moment of my life without you, so I promise that I will always have your back as you will always have mine. You’re my best friend, you’re my home, you are my true love and I am yours and will be forever.”

“I, Clark Kent, take you, Lois Lane, to be my companion, forever. With you by my side I will never be alone. Though the world sees a strong and independent woman, I’ve never known someone with such gentle grace and more pure heart. When I’ve been lost you’ve always been there to bring me back, so on this day, at this moment, I pledge the rest of my life to you. You’ve always believed in me, and I believe in you. When you believe in someone it’s not for a minute, or just for now, it’s forever.”

6. Marshall & Lily (Jason Segel & Alyson Hannigan) – How I Met Your Mother

This, so far, has been a tough season for the Eriksen clan. But the important thing is that they love each other and they will make it thru… And they’re staying in NYC!

Great moments…

“Marshall, I love you because you’re funny, and you make me feel loved, and you make me feel safe. And for our anniversary, you gave me a sweatshirt that says: Lily and Marshall: Rockin’ It Since ’96. Kinda wish I was wearing it right now, because it smells like you. But the main reason I love you Marshall Eriksen, is…you make me happy. You make me happy all the time”

My Top 20 TV Couples: 15 to 11

After yesterday’s last 5 couples on the Top, now numbers 15 to 11 from my new Top 20 TV Couples.

15. Leonard & Penny (Johnny Galecki & Kaley Cuoco) – The Big Bang Theory

They climbed over some of my other favorite couples because they grew so much, as people and as a couple. I love them, that’s it! Even with that awkward moment this season where Penny proposed and Leonard didn’t respond…

“I know I propose a lot. So, how about this: I promise I will never ask you to marry me again. If someday you decide you want to get married, you have to propose to me.It’s all on you. But I gotta tell you, when the time comes, I want the whole 9 yards, I want you down on one knee, flowers, I want to be swept of my feet. And I’m cool with surprises, but nothing on the jumbo tron, I don’t want to cry in a big screen like that.”

14. Amy & Rory (the Ponds) (Karen Gillan & Arthur Darvill) – Doctor Who

Amy is probably the luckiest woman on Doctor Who history, why?! Because she had Rory, and this is also why they make it into my Top 20. Sure Amy loved Rory (not so obvious during their first season, but obvious enough after that), but Rory proved himself time and time again. The guy waited 2,000 years for her, that’s love, right?! Ok, she crashed a car, jumped of a building with him and let herself be touch by a weeping angel to be sent back in time to be with him, so, I guess she’s pretty cool as well! (They get bonus points for generating the amazing Melody Pond, a.k.a. River Song.)

“You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful — and then you actually talk to them and five minutes later they’re as dull as a brick; but then there’s other people. And you meet them and you think, “Not bad, they’re okay,” and when you get to know them … their face just, sort of, becomes them, like their personality’s written all over it, and they just — they turn into something so beautiful. Rory’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever met.”

13. Chuck & Sarah (Zachary Levi & Yvonne Strahovski) – Chuck

After all these years, Sarah and Chuck still warm my heart (maybe because I like Zachary Levi so much…). They were supposed to be in a fake relationship, but he fell for her, so hard! And it’s the geek and the beauty… and then she fell for him as well! They eventually started to date, got married and set up their own business… but in a twist that had me crying the whole episode, she lost every memory she had of him =( !!! But they ended up together (even if he remembered everything and she didn’t…).

“I love Chuck Bartowski and I don’t know what to do about it.”

12. Richard Castle & Kate Beckett (Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic) – Castle

They got engaged! They did and it’s been wonderful! Caskett is still kicking some serious ass, even if they are now “babe”ing each other. They have set the date (ish… around Spring), she has a dress (hideous, by the way) and they can’t wait to get married :)!

“Yeah, she would’ve loved you.” (Beckett talking to Castle about her mom)

11. Rose & The Doctor (Billie Pipper & David Tennant) – Doctor Who

Whether you ship them or not, their story is one of the saddest in modern Who history. They fell for each other, run the Universe together, only to be thrown away from one another because throughout it all, they were so happy that they didn’t think of the consequences of their actions. Rose was suddenly in another Universe altogether. She did not remain still though, she managed to get back to him, only to get separated again. I guess if you look at it, it’s not that sad for her; she did get “her guy”, she got the Doctor, the human Doctor (not really him, though, right?). And he got to watch them make out while closing the door on that Universe forever.

“I’m in orbit around a supernova. I’m burning up a sun just to say goodbye.”

The Big Bang Theory: The Locomotion Manipulation

It’s that time of the year again. Valentine’s Day’s episodes popping all around… For the second year in a row, TBBT did not disappoint.

This year was mostly about Shamy, in a turn out that will have people talking for days, and hopefully, it takes their super super super slow relationship a step forward.

The Locomotive Manipulation

So, it’s Valentine’s Day, Leonard and Penny decide to have a quite night in. She buys him flowers and chocolates (that were actually free – and she ate some anyway), and he gives her Lakers tickets so she can take anyone else but him to the game… she loves it… they move the party to the bedroom and leave Cinnamon (Raj had a “date” with the telescope) in the living room with the chocolates that she obviously eats. So they rush her to the Vet, where a really mad Raj hits it off with Ivetty (the vet). She end up giving him her number, but he only finds it hours later at home.

Amy plans a weekend that even Sheldon has to agree that it’s fun, because it involves dinner in a train, sleeping in a separate room alone, and having another couple there to buffer everything (Howard and Bernie). During dinner, however, Sheldon meets another train enthusiast and leaves Amy hanging. After she points out that he’s behaving badly, she just wanted some romance, he decides to give it her (not at all nicely) and ends up kissing her (kissing is romantic). But the fact is: HE ENJOYS IT! Yay for SHAMY!!!!

I have to say that I love the normalcy of Penny and Leonard relationship, even with all those little stabbings at each other. I feel that both of them grew so much. Also, how weird is that Howard and Bernadette are the most normal couple in that mist?! Finally, 3 years in the making, and Sheldon finally kissed Amy!

The Big Bang Theory: The Convention Conundrum

This week’s episode of TBBT was called The Convention Conundrum, why?! Well because it finally touched a topic long overdue: Comic Con!

The Convention Conundrum

Well, they don’t actually get to go to Comic Con in the episode, which is a shame, but they fail to get tickets, even after so many minutes of refreshing their screens. So, saddened by it, they find other solutions: Raj, Howard and Leonard decide to buy someone else’s tickets, while Sheldon, afraid to be banned from Comic Con forever, decides to set up his own convention.

Neither solution works out really well: the guys end up not doing it, afraid of being charged with theft and having to put that information when they apply for grants or residency visas (as well as being banned from Comic Con). Sheldon tries to contact several celebrities to panel in his convention without any luck.

The Convention Conundrum

Then Sheldon decides to stalk James Earl Jones, who finds him a delight and the two end up spending the whole night together, which includes a trip to a stripclub, knocking on Carrie Fisher’s house, karaoking and going to a steam room… together… so it turns out that this is not the kind of stuff Sheldon enjoys, and when James Earl Jones tells him that they could all go with him to Comic Con, because then he could take Sheldon out every night, he wasn’t overjoyed!

In the meanwhile, the girls, thinking that the boys are acting like such a band of teens, decide to prove that they are the adults, only to find out that being an adult isn’t that much fun! Bernadette still buys clothes at the kids department, Penny laughs out loud when old people fall and Amy never had sex (but if having sex would make you an adult, Penny would be the oldest….).

The episode was great, it’s always nice when they score such amazing guest stars, and James Earl Jones was just so at ease that it was impossible not to love Darth Vader.

I do have a couple of issues with this episode.

The first one is, why it’s always only Jim Parson to interact with this huge guest stars? First Leonard Nimoy (albeit just his voice), Stephen Hawking, Stan Lee  (sure, Penny was there…) and now James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher? Why don’t the other guys have equal opportunities to do just that? I know that Sheldon is supposed to be the most obsessed, and probably the only one who would think that it was OK to stalk someone while they’re having diner, but couldn’t the others just have some kind of similar opportunity? Don’t get me wrong, I love Jim Parsons and he’s amazing, but I happen to think the whole cast is amazing and deserve to shine as much as Jim.

My other problem is Penny! I thought in this season we were finally getting over the whole “you’re good for nothing” kind of jokes. What I mean is, the scene at the bar was going so well, until they split the bill in two and not three. I don’t think the writers had the need to go there. I know she never has money, but at least she looked embarrassed before when that was mentioned…

The Convention Conundrum

I love the girls on the show and I do think that they can’t do no wrong (that’s how good they are), but I feel that most of the times Penny is left to very little to do, most of the times is the drinking, or her shopping issues… she deserves more!

The Romance Resonance – “If I Didn’t Have You (Bernadette’s Song)”

The Big Bang Theory nailed it with their last episode, The Romance Resonance, which aired last thursday. It was such a funny episode and with an enormity of plots!

Howard and Bernadette

This is going to stay in my top 10 moments of the show. Howard writes and preforms a song for his wife, for the celebration of their first date anniversary and, remember when Howard was probably the last guy on Earth you would ever consider dating? Well, not after this one! The song was written by Kate Micucci, who plays Raj’s ex-girlfriend Lucy, and her Garfunkel & Oates writing partner Riki Lindhome.

If I didn’t have you, life would be blue
I’d be Doctor Who without the TARDIS
A candle without a wick, a Watson without a Crick
I’d be one of my outfits without a dick-ey

I’d be cheese without the mac,
Steve Jobs without the Wozniak
I’d be solving exponential equations that use bases not found on your calculator, making it much harder to crack

I’d be an atom without a bomb, a dot without the com
And I’d probably still live with my mom
(All, echo: And he’d probably still live with his mom)

Ever since I met you, you’ve turned my world around
You’ve supported all my dreams and all my hopes
You’re like Uranium-235 and I’m Uranium-238,
Almost inseparable isotopes

I couldn’t have imagined how good my life would get
From the moment that I met you, Bernadette

If I didn’t have you, life would be dreary
I’d be string theory without any string
I’d be binary code without a one,
A cathode ray tube without an electron gun
I’d be ‘Firefly’, ‘Buffy,’ and ‘Avengers’ without Joss Whedon
I’d speak a lot more Klingon,
[Speaks Klingon]
All: And he’d definitely still live with his mom

Ever since I met you, you’ve turned my world around
You’re my best friend and my lover
We’re like changing electric and magnetic fields;
you can’t have one, without the other

I couldn’t have imagined how good my life would get
From the moment that I met you, Bernadette

All: Oh, we couldn’t have imagined, how good our lives would get
From the moment that we met you, Bernadette

Penny and Leonard

After despairing for not being able to do anything romantic for Leonard, Penny pulls out a box of everything that Leonard ever gave her, from the very beginning of their on and off and on again relationship, showing Leonard the most romantic gesture of all!

Sheldon and Amy

The main plot of this week’s episode was that sheldon found a formula and discovered a new element, only to realize afterwards that he had made a mistake and was being given credit for an error. Making him extremely miserable throughout the congratulations, articles written about him and even being raised.

Amy shows she’s a good girlfriend by being the only one who says that he should feel bad and that he shouldn’t get any credit.

The episode ends with an hilarious scene where Sheldon confesses his desire to kiss Amy… turns out, she was “in the zone”, aka, she was daydreaming.

Few sitcoms points

So, TV shows season is back and so are the new shows… Just a few notes on the past weeks sitcoms episodes (that I’ve watched so far…).

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory S7 iTunes

TBBT return with a couple of great episodes… first we see Penny and Sheldon bonding over missing Leonard (while he’s partying at sea!), Amy and Bernadette bond for the first time while talking “shop” and boys without Penny, and Howard helps Raj taking him to a party in order for him to meet girls… it doesn’t go well! Than Leonard returns and chooses to not tell Sheldon in order to be with Penny alone, which equals big problems… Howard however has an increase of female hormones and starts acting like a lady 😉

2 Broke Girls

Max and Caroline are back and, sorry for saying this, but Caroline could have stayed away… Kat Dennings (Max) on the other hand should get an award for BEST AND FASTEST SUMMARY OF THE SUMMER! She rocks! The storyline was typical 2BG with a lot of great sexual related jokes.

The premise of the show is OK, Anna Faris is funny as always, but Allison Janney is a delight to watch, even when she’s hitting on a much younger (and cutter) man. The children are funny enough, with the high point being her daughter’s boyfriend getting out the window and latter eating a banana half naked in front of the Mom and her ex husband.

The Michael J Fox Show

It takes a great man to be able to demystify his disease like Michael J Fox does on his new tv-show! I liked it, a lot! I’ll definitely keep watching this one!

The Crazy Ones

It has Robin Williams… enough said?! I’m still not sure about Sarah Michelle Gellar, but I would be willing to watch Kelly Clarkson on the show every single week! I did not understand the role played by Hamish Linklater, given that I don’t think he spoke (alone and clearly) at least once during the first episode…

Back in the Game

This show should get an award for best child casting in like… ever! Come on! The kid was being bullied and he decided to kiss the guy instead of fighting him?! Genius! Griffin Gluck plays Maggie Lawson‘s son and James Caan plays her estranged father. I’m conflicted here… for one, I really liked the show, and I love Maggie Lawson… on the other hand, I love her so much that I want her full time in Psych! Aiiiiii….

Trophy Wife

Malin Akerman plays the third (and trophy) wife of Bradley Whitford (West Wing) and a step mom to his 3 children from his two prior marriages… she has to learn how to be a mom and deal with kids and their mom… it’s quite great! Approved!!
