Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Contemporaries!

top 10 tuesday

Hello, welcome back to another Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is:

Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Books Of X Genre (I know, I know. Picking all time faves. I’m MEAN. But I like knowing people’s definitive faves). Can also break it down into sub-genre if that helps?

I decided to go the obvious way and do some of my favorite contemporaries, either YA, NA or adult. Here we go!

Mid-Year Freak Out Tag (2016 Edition)

midyear_booktag

Hey guys! We’re halfway through the year, which means it’s time for the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag, and Deanna @A Novel Glimpse was awesome and tagged me to do it 😀 . Thank you Deanna!!!

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ YET IN 2016

Without a doubt, my favorite book of this year so far was A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. It was bonkers and amazing and I want and need more. I don’t know how Sarah J. Maas keeps doing it, but I love her books more and more.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2016

So many!!! But I’ll settle with another of my favorites of this year, and that is Us (Him #2) by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. This book stole my heart completely. I love Jamie and Wes and I miss my boys dearly.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

Looking around my room, I’ll say The Girl Who Fell by Shannon M. Parker, that has been sitting on my shelf since March totally untouched, and I really really want to read it.

*shame on me*

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

Probably Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. I love the Throne of Glass series, and I have high hopes for book 5, because I’m one of those loving the direction she’s been giving to the series. I’m curious to see if it will take the place of favorite read of the year away from ACOMAF

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

I had high hopes for South of Sunshine by Dana Elmendorf, because I’m a huge fan of LGBT contemporaries, and I was in the need to read more F/F romances. Unfortunately this book didn’t match my expectations, and didn’t deal with important issues like the way I thought it should

BIGGEST SURPRISE

One of my biggest surprises this year so far was Anything You Want by Geoff Herbach. This book blew me away, and I know a lot of people didn’t quite like it, but I thought it was an amazing book, and I would like to shove it in everyone’s face!

FAVORITE NEW AUTHORKelly Siskind CREDIT Eirik Dunlop

Can I name 2?! I need to say Elle Kennedy, who wrote my favorite two NA series (Off Campus and Him), because she’s amazing! And then Kelly Siskind, because each time I read one of her books, it makes me so so happy (and she’s also super nice).

NB_milesNEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

Confession time: I have a lot of new crushed this year, and I’ll chose this one because I really want to use a pic of the actor playing the role. So I’m going for Miles from Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover, because REASONS!

And that guy is hottie Nick Bateman, who’s set to play Miles in the Ugly Love movie!!! And that’s his cutie dog Joey 😀 .

NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER

Julian Blackthorn stole my heart in Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I love him! I love him so much that he might have stolen Jem’s place as my favorite shadowhunter (and book boyfriend). Julian is strong, loving, mysterious. He would do ANYTHING for the people he loves. There’s still so much more to know about him, and I can’t wait.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

Oh my god… I cried so much when I finished Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. This book is so heartbreaking… so good, but so heartbreaking.

And I have no clue as to how I’m going to review it, because my heart is breaking just thinking about it.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

Smut by Karina Halle was a book that made me happy because it put a huge smile on my face. This book had an awesome plot, and awesome romance and it was funny as hell.

Also, so damn sexy!

FAVORITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

I don’t think I’ve seen adaptations this year, besides Captain America: Civil War, so I’m gonna say that one. I loved this movie, and it’s Marvel, which is always good on my book.

FAVORITE POST YOU HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

Are you kidding?! Do you know how much I posted this year already?! LOL. I really liked to do this TTT post though, about first kisses. Also, check how I was doing with my challenges 3 months ago here, but know that I’m way ahead now!

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR

One of the most beautiful books I’ve got this year so far was Night Owls (or The Anatomical Shape of a Heartby Jenn Bennett .

I love this cover so much. I fell in love with it the minute I locked eyes with this book at Waterstones.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

There are 2 contemporaries that I’m dying to read, and they are Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn and Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. I’m thinking that maybe September will be their month (because August will be NA month).

I tag EVERYONE who wants to do this tag, because I need to know how you are all doing so far this reading year 🙂 .

Book Traveling Thursdays: A Favorite Book of the Year So Far

btt

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “We’re halfway through 2016. Choose your favorite book of the year so far“.  Just for the record, my favorite book I’ve read this year so far was A Court of Mist and Fury, but there’s only 2 covers available, and that’s not enough. So I’ll use one of my favorite last reads, and that was Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.

Original COver:

I love love love the original cover for this book! It has so much more to do with the story than I originally thought too.

COVER FROM MY COUNTRY (PORTUGAL) & COVER FROM THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN (SPAIN):

Oh wow, the book is out in Portugal, but not in Spain?! That’s a shocker! I love that we kept the original cover for this book, though the colors seems somewhat more muted, the book is still gorgeous.

Favorite COVER(s):

I love the original cover, and then there’s the Danish, which is gorgeous and probably my favorite of the 2.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

My least favorite covers are the French (just no), Polish (no no), Slovak (hmmm NO) and the German (definitly no no no).

Ugly Love (Colleen Hoover)

uglylove

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly

I’ve been meaning to start my Colleen Hoover “marathon” for awhile now, and the other day I finally got a hold of Ugly Love and decided to devour it. Oh boy… did I love this book…

To start, the writing is brilliant and lovely and emotional. This book is told in dual POV, with a twist: Tate’s POV is in the present, while Miles’ POV is mostly in the past. There’s this little detail, where Miles’ chapters are centered when he’s happy, and normal when he’s not. It’s a detail, but it gave me a sense of the character in a huge way. Then there are expressions and thoughts that run through their heads that are so lovely written. I was already a huge CoHo fan since reading Hopeless and Finding Cinderella, but Ugly Love took my breath away.

uglylove_5

Now about the characters… I have to say, it’s not easy to love Tate and Miles right away, well, I loved Tate from the get go, but present day Miles is tough. And as time goes by, Tate has some problems, and I understand that some people might dislike her for that. However, I did understand Tate completely, and I loved her so much, and I wanted her to stop putting herself through that situation. She’s a strong woman, who fights for herself, and she does just that, and I was so proud of her.

uglylove_3

Then Miles, we have 18 yo Miles and 24 yo Miles, and I loved loved LOVED teen Miles! He was so amazing and good, and the more you know about teen Miles, the more you understand present-day Miles, and if you’re anything like me, you will then find it impossible to fault present-day Miles for any of the things he did. But adult Miles is such a good person, you just have to look at the little things to actually see it clearly.

uglylove_2

I really liked the secondary characters… most of them at least. Cap, Corbin and Ian were amazing, and I wanted to see more of Tate’s parents, because they were hilarious. I loved how protective Corbin was of Tate, even if it was a bit too much at times, eheh.

I loved the plot, it was so heartbreaking… but I don’t think I can say anything about it, because SPOILERS. I just loved it. Tate and Miles had an amazing chemistry and I was rooting for them so so much. What happened in the past broke my heart, but let me just say that the chapter that had me bawling my eyes out was in the present… and boy… did I cry! It was 5 a.m. and I was sobbing! Also, I thought the parallelisms between the past and the present was very smartly done, we would have things that happen with Miles in the past, happening on the present as well but with different interpretation to him, while we, as readers, can see exactly what’s happening. Very smart!

uglylove_1

So, people, have you read Ugly Love? Did you like it? I personally loved it, and so far, it’s my favorite CoHo book. I highly recommend it to everyone!

May Book Haul

maybookhaul

Hey guys. Here we are, at the end of another month, and I’m bringing you another book haul. This month I didn’t haul as much books as last month, but it was still a pretty good one 🙂 .

physicalbooks_may

This month I bought The Rose and the Dagger and A Court of Mist and Fury. I still haven’t read any of them, but I will soon, and I just had to have them as soon as they were out. I’m a little sad about TRATD‘s colour, the blue on the paperback is not the best, but ACOMAF is gorgeous. I finally received my paperback signed copy of More Than Music by Elizabeth Briggs, which was sent to me by Elodie Nowodazkij after I won a giveaway she was hosting.

Once again, most of these books I got at Kindle deals, for nothing!

Don’t forget that my giveaway is still running until June 18th…

April TBR

april_TBR

Hello 😀 . Today I’ll show you my TBR for this month. In March I managed to read 22 books by some miracle. Granted, one was a super short novella and another one was a short story, but still, it was the most I ever read in a single month, and most books were finished in the span of 24 hours. So, I hope I have a similarly awesome reading month in April, though I won’t aim that high, because that’s crazy.

I’m going for 15 books, of which 2.5 of them are already finished (yes, it’s still the 3rd day of the month…).

AprilTBR

  1. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig – Me and Cátia are both about halfway through with this book. It’s good, but neither of us has been in the mood for it.
  2. Changing His Game (The Reynolds Brothers, #1) by Justine Elvira – I actually finished this book already (and I was so disappointed).
  3. Roommates by Erin Leigh – And I finished this one already too…
  4. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – This beauty will be a buddy read with Kat @Life and Other Disasters and Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much. After weeks of waiting, Cátia is finally getting her book on monday, and we will begin this journey. It will probably take us a bit to get through it, but we will!
  5. Once Upon a Dream (Twisted Tales #2) by Liz Braswell – I didn’t like the first one a bit, but I’ll give this one a shot.
  6. Catch You (Love Me, I’m Famous 0.5) by M.H. Soars – Warning, the next 5 book are buddy reads with Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much, because we love to request the same ARCs on Netgalley.
  7. The One That Got Away (Kingston Ale House #1) by A.J. Pine – Another ARC I’m reading with Cátia
  8. Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance (Creative HeArts #3) by Shellee Roberts – And another one… I’m so excited for this one, because I read the second book of this series last month.
  9. Pieces of You and Me by Erin Fletcher – Another ARC I’m reading with Cátia.
  10. That Thing Between Eli and Gwen by J.J. McAvoy – And another!
  11. Tone Deaf by Olivia Rivers – The author asked me if I would like to read and review her book… hells YES! (Kat @Life and Other Disasters is also reading this one…)
  12. Anything You Want by Geoff Herbach – Me and Kat @Life and Other Disasters are finally getting to this one. And Sara @Freadom Library is joining us 😀
  13. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover – I’m going to Portugal later this month, which means I’ll finally be able to buy CoHo’s ebooks!!! (Kindle store’s prices differ from Portugal to Spain, and they’re way nicer at home).
  14. The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years #1) by Sarina Bowen – I bought this book this month (for free), so I’m hoping I get some time to get to it. Everybody says wonders of Sarina Bowen, and I fell in love with Him and Us.
  15. #Junkie (GearShark #1) by Cambria Hebert – I stumbled upon this book by accident, and after loving  Him and Us so much, I think I’ll enjoy this one as well.

This is what I plan to read this month of April, I might not get to all the books, but I’ll try to finish all my ARCs – the goal on Netgalley keeps beeing the 80% ratio… not far now.

I also think that some books will take a little bit of time, such as Lady Midnight. Not only is the book huge, but buddy reading implies that we have to keep a steady pace between the 3 of us 😉 .
