A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating — and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me — I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming — and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that — that, I know how to do.
Last month I read Overruled and really liked it, but I LOVED Sustained!
I’m gonna keep this review short and on point. This book is adorable and amazing and sweet and funny and amazing 😀 . The writing is once again incredible, with the added bonus that this book is told exclusively through Jake’s POV. You guys know how much I love a male-POV only book, and Jake was the perfect guy to carry this one.
I loved the characters. Jake is beyond amazing, even when he’s slightly stupid a bit clueless. The way he loves Chelsea and those kids is spectacular, and reading about his character development was great. Chelsea was a great character on her own, and such an amazing girl, I really liked how she faces everything in her life. She was strong and beautiful, and just wow.
The romance made this book for me. The romance and the kids. I have to be honest, I love romances with kids involved, because they have so much more at stake. And this one had a total of 6 amazing and beautiful and challenging kids. The McQuaid gang was great. I loved how each of them had their own personalities and quirks, and I fell in love with each and everyone one of them at the same time as Jake, eheh.
I loved every second of this book. So much so that I picked up book 3 right after, and the last novella right after that. I just couldn’t get enough of this group. Especially of Jake, Chelsea and their kids.
YES!!! This book and your review for it are both AMAZING! So happy you enjoyed it.
