Musical Mondays: A Minha Casinha by Xutos & Pontapés

musicalmondays

I know most of you won’t know this song, but if you watched the game last night, this was the song playing when the Portugal National Team made its way to receive the trophy. 😀 It’s basically about missing home, which is kind of poetic.

As saudades que eu já tinha
Da minha alegre casinha
Tão modesta quanto eu.

Meu Deus como é bom morar
No modesto primeiro andar
A contar vindo do céu.

As saudades que eu já tinha
Da minha alegre casinha
Tão modesta quanto eu.

Meu Deus como é bom morar
No modesto primeiro andar
A contar vindo do céu.

As saudades que eu já tinha
Da minha alegre casinha
Tão modesta quanto eu.

Meu Deus como é bom morar
No modesto primeiro andar
A contar vindo do céu.

La ra la la la la la
La ra la la la la la la
La ra la la la la la

As saudades que eu já tinha
Da minha alegre casinha
Tão modesta quanto eu.

Meu Deus como é bom morar
No modesto primeiro andar
A contar vindo do céu.

…do céu.
…do céu.

EURO 2016: PORTUGAL, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

maxresdefault

What a wild ride! I’m still high from all the emotions from last night, and I still can’t believe it… I’m ecstatic. WE WON!!! If you follow football (soccer) at all, you know by now: PORTUGAL IS THE NEW EUROPEAN CHAMPION!

I suffered a lot in 2004, I’ve been suffering a lot since then, but this European championship made me suffer for a lot more than our 23 player on the field. We saw a slander campaign against us. For a whole month we endured all criticism, people saying we didn’t deserve anything, French reporters saying that our game was disgusting. They belittled our people and the 2 million portuguese immigrants living in their country. We saw coaches from another huge national teams saying that we stood no chance. They wrote articles saying how bad Ronaldo was. There was an overall lack of respect and sportsmanship in regards to the Portugal National Team.

Because of this, I have to say that our win tasted all that better.

It’s true we didn’t play the most gorgeous football ever. Yes, we went through the group phase with only draws. We played more minutes than any other team on the competition too. We also used all our player (apart from the other 2 goal keepers) because we had injuries and our scheme wasn’t settled. We also had a coach that always believed! He said from the start that they would only be back to Lisbon on July 11th, and damn him, he was right :D. We had a group that wanted it more than anything, and that had a great chemistry and relationship. We had a huge cohesion and a group that worked always towards a common goal: go through to the next phase and the next. And we had an amazing group of immigrants in France, who never gave up, who were there all along for our national team, supporting our boys and making them feel like they were at home.

portugal_5

Then we had such a tough game last night. The field was in the worst conditions ever, our captain, Cristiano Ronaldo was badly injured right at the beginning of the game, and he was in so much pain that he had to leave the game.

Portugal_1

We suffered through the 90 minutes of the game, where Pepe and Rui Patricio were heroes. Then 30 minutes more and we finally did it. Eder, against all expectations, scored and everyone went wild. And then we did it!

portugal_3

WE WON! We’re the European Champions for the first time ever.

We have a Captain that is a TRUE CAPTAIN. Something has to be said about this guy, because his dream was to win something for Portugal, but he got injured and had to leave. He still did his job even outside the field. He supported them in the half time. And he was in the bench for all the last 30 minutes, supporting them, giving directions, helping his coach. He was motivating them! HE’S THE BEST CAPTAIN EVER! (and I might have cried when Nani gave him his Captain bracelet again).

Portugal_2

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS (of Europe), and I’ll be happy for awhile! 😀 A huge congratulations to these boys, they deserve this :D.

Musical Mondays: Hino Euro 2004 (Menos Ais) by Da Weasel

musicalmondays

We’re entering the last week of UEFA EURO 2016, and Portugal is – for the 4th time in the last 5 championships – in the semi-finals. I don’t care about the critics and stupid comments. We’re there, and even if we don’t go through to the finals, I’m still proud of this young group of players. This week Portugal will play with Wales on Wednesday, and on Thursday it’s France and Germany playing for the other place in the final. I’m wishing with all my might that we achieve at least what we did on Euro 2004 – a place in the final, so today I’ve decided to share a song done for that championship, when Portugal was about to head to that magical game (that we lost, btw). This song was sponsored by our national oil company and sang by Da Weasel. Watch the video to see our players from a decade ago (you might spot Cristiano Ronaldo when he was super young).

Está tudo pronto? Dá-lhe gás!

Três, dois, um, vai arrancar
uma espécie de hino em versão popular
sem coisas de mão no peito e ar pesado
Em 2004 o campeonato vai mudar o nosso fado
do coitado, do arrumado, do comido
Porque é que o país se queixa do que podia ter sido?
Mas nunca é. E a culpa nunca é nossa
é do árbitro, é do campo, é de quem nos deu uma coça.
Chega. Queremos mais, é um murro na mesa.
Um grito do Ipiranga em versão portuguesa.
Até hoje, quase marcámos, quase ganhámos, quase
fizemos…
Mas porquê quase? …Passemos à próxima fase.

Marca mais!
Corre mais!
Menos ais, menos ais, menos ais!
Quero muito mais!

O conceito é muito simples: não desistir.
Mas será que é esta atitude que acabamos de pedir?
É chato agora, acreditem no que digo:
nós jogamos em casa e contamos com o Figo,
o Rui Costa, o Deco, o Simão e o Pauleta.
for
do princípio ao fim, por favor.
Vamos lá people afinem-me essa voz
No fim, só ganha um… e temos que ser nós.

Marca mais!
Corre mais!
Menos ais, menos ais, menos ais!
Quero muito mais!

Joga mais!
Sua mais!
Menos ais, menos ais, menos ais!
Quero muito mais!

Nem custa tanto assim imaginar a vitória
no fundo, é só uma soma de momentos de glória.
Era bonito… Um abraço aqui, um abraço ali…
Abraço toda a gente, abraço quem nunca vi.
Vamos lá transformar isto numa grande festa
E a bola no pé.

yo…querem mais?

Então baza lá, vamos lá outra vez
Quem não salta agora aqui não é português
Sempre com o desejo de cantar na final
“levantai hoje de novo o esplendor de Portugal”.
Tudo a postos,
vamos ter fé uma vez na vida
e acabar o europeu de cabeça e de taça erguida.
Se temos saudade, temos vontade, temos saúde, temos
atitude
Se temos tudo, de que é que o português se queixa?
…Era esta a vossa deixa.

Marca mais!
Corre mais!
Menos ais, menos ais, menos ais!
Quero muito mais!

Joga mais!
Sua mais!
Menos ais, menos ais, menos ais!
Quero muito mais!

Musical Mondays: Tudo o que eu te dou #Somos Portugal by Pedro Abrunhosa

musicalmondays

Today I’m doing something a bit different. In case you don’t know by now, I’m a huge fan of football (or soccer, if you’re from the USA), and right now the Euro 2016 in France is in full swing. Portugal is having its first game tomorrow, Tuesday, so I’m sharing our official support song today. This music has been around for over 20 years, but has been adapted to support our national team. the first video is the cut version that runs on TV, while the second one is the complete song.

Eu já sei
Que mais podemos ser,
Hoje ser rei,
É esse o teu poder.
Somos mais fortes
Coragem, ambição,
Voamos mais alto,
O meu nome é Seleção.

Eu já sei
Que mais te posso dar,
A minha voz
Como um rugido de mar,
Gritos de dor,
Gritos de prazer,
Que um Homem também chora
No momento de vencer.

Foram tantas as noites sem dormir,
Tanta dor, tanta glória, suar e cair
E a cada vitória
Uma certeza no ar
E logo ali eu sei,

Que tudo o que eu te dou,
Tu me dás a mim,
Tudo o que eu sonhei,
Tu farás por mim
Tudo o que nos dás,
Nós damos-te a ti,
Somos Portugal!

Enquanto houver caminho
Passo a passo lá chegamos,
Ninguém joga sozinho
Tu entregas, nós cantamos

Mais, peço-te eu,
Já nos sinto a conquistar
Levanta, Desafia
Há milhões a acreditar,

Todos somos um,
Neste mar que se abriu,
Há vitórias, Descobertas,
E o que a História construiu,
Há vontade de conquista,
Há saudade e coração,
Há jogadas de loucura,
Futebol e Paixão,
Hmm, essa força
Leva-me à Final,
Mata-me de Amor,
Viva Portugal!
Deixa-nos cantar, voar, enlouquecer…

Que tudo o que eu te dou,
Tu me dás a mim,
Tudo o que eu sonhei,
Tu farás por mim
Tudo o que nos dás,
Nós damos-te a ti,
Somos Portugal!
Tudo o que eu te dou,
Tu me dás a mim,
Tudo o que eu sonhei,
Tu farás por mim,
Tudo o que nos dás,
Nós damos-te a ti,
Somos Portugal!

Somos Portugal!
Leva-me à Final

Musical Mondays: Portugal by Walk the Moon

I found this music last week, not even really sure how, but I think it was on someone’s Top Ten Tuesday from last week. Either way, I love it!

I know everyone you know
You know everyone I know
Our Venn diagrams are one circle

You grow up when I’m not looking
We grow apart without knowing
And all of a sudden I’m leaving

So I say I’m sorry I can’t, I’ve got plans
As I watched the time slip through my hands

What you don’t know now,
One day you’ll learn
Growing up is a heavy leaf to turn
A heavy leaf to turn

Take me with you
‘Cause even on your own,
You are not alone

Take me with you
‘Cause even by yourself, my love
You are something else

One summer turns into ten summers
One lover turns into ten others
But this memory is still with me

So close bring me in so close
Your clothes underneath my clothes
Once upon a time in Portugal

So I say I’m sorry I can’t, I’ve got plans
As I watched the time slip through my hands

What you don’t know now,
One day you’ll learn
Growing up is a heavy leaf to turn
A heavy leaf to turn

Take me with you
‘Cause even on your own,
You are not alone

Take me with you
‘Cause even by yourself, my love
You are something else

No matter what you want,
Somebody else wants it just as bad
No matter what you got,
Somebody else has got it worse
No matter when I got to you,
Somebody else got to you first

So I say I’m sorry I can’t, I’ve got plans
As I watched the time slip through my hands

What you don’t know now,
One day you’ll learn
Growing up is a heavy leaf to turn
A heavy leaf to turn

Take me with you
‘Cause even on your own,
You are not alone

Take me with you
‘Cause even by yourself, my love
You are something else

Take me with you
‘Cause even on your own,
You are not alone

Take me with you
‘Cause even by yourself, my love
You can carry with you anyone else

Musical Mondays: Chuva by Mariza

musicalmondays

I’m kind of liking this Musical Mondays thing. And I’m liking to use it to showcase some unknown music to most of you, such as portuguese music. 😀

Today I’m showing guys a type of music that I usually don’t like one bit: FADO! Do you know what it is? Well, it’s the most typical form of portuguese music, and a genre that ONLY exists in Portugal. I usually don’t like it, and for sure I don’t like the artist that I’m featuring today, Mariza. She’s probably the best known fadista since Amália Rodrigues, and has a huge success across the world. As I said, I’m not a huge fan, but she does have a couple of songs that I really love, and one of them is this one: Chuva.

As coisas vulgares que há na vida
Não deixam saudades
Só as lembranças que doem
Ou fazem sorrir

Há gente que fica na história
da história da gente
e outras de quem nem o nome
lembramos ouvir

São emoções que dão vida
à saudade que trago
Aquelas que tive contigo
e acabei por perder

Há dias que marcam a alma
e a vida da gente
e aquele em que tu me deixaste
não posso esquecer

A chuva molhava-me o rosto
Gelado e cansado
As ruas que a cidade tinha
Já eu percorrera

Ai… meu choro de moça perdida
gritava à cidade
que o fogo do amor sob chuva
há instantes morrera

A chuva ouviu e calou
meu segredo à cidade
E eis que ela bate no vidro
Trazendo a saudade

Here is the english translation 😉 :

The ordinary things in life
don’t bring us nostalgia
Only the memories that hurt
Or make us smile do

There are people that remain in our story
in the story of our life
and others whose the name
we barely care to listen to again

There are emotions that give life
to the longing that I bring with me
Emotions that I had by your side
and I lost a little ago

There are days that leave traces in our souls
and in our lives
and the day you left me,
I can not forget

The rain wet my
cold and tired face
And all the streets in that city,
I had already passed by

Ah … my crying of lost girl
shouted to the city that
the fire of love in the rain
just now died

The rain listened to my secret
and shared it with the city
And now, rain taps on my windows
bringing the longing back

Musical Mondays: Someone That Cannot Love by David Fonseca

musicalmondays

Once again I’m bringing someone that most of you have never hear of, right? Well, you should! David Fonseca is an amazing portuguese singer and writer, not only does he has an amazing voice, but he has some truly amazing songs.

You locked up your heart
You wake up with tears and stars in your eyes
You gave it all to someone that
Cannot love you back

Your days are packed
With wishes and hopes for the love that you’ve got
You waste it all to someone that
Cannot love you back

Someone that cannot love

Love, ain’t this enough
You push yourself down
You try to take comfort in words
But words
They cannot love
Don’t waste them like that
Cus they’ll bruise you more

You secretly made
Castles of sand that you hide in the shade
But you cannot hold the tides that break them
And you build them all over again

You talk all these words
You make conversations that cannot be heard
How long until you notice that
No one is answering back

Someone that cannot love

Love, ain’t this enough
You push yourself down
You try to take comfort in words
But words
They cannot love
Don’t waste them like that
Cus they’ll bruise you more

Love, love, ain’t this enough
Pushing around
You try to take comfort in words
But words
Well they cannot love
Don’t waste them like that
Cus they’ll bruise you more

Someone that cannot love

Someone that cannot love
Someone that cannot love

Love, ain’t this enough
You push yourself down
You try to take comfort in words
But words
They cannot love
Don’t waste them like that
Cus they’ll bruise you more

Love, love, ain’t this enough
Pushing around
To find little comfort in words
But words
Well they cannot love
Don’t waste them like that
Cus they’ll bruise you more

You know they’ll bruise you more
Words they will hurt you more
Words they will hurt you more

Yes they’ll bruise you
Someone that cannot love
Someone that cannot love

Wandering About: Lisbon

wandering about

I’ve showed many places I’ve visited throughout the years, some many awesome places, but while in Portugal this past weeks, I realized that I haven’t mentioned my gorgeous city of Lisbon yet. Now, when I’m in Lisbon I rarely go sightseeing, because I’ve lived there most of my life, and my first instinct is not to snap photos, but I took the opportunity that I had to visit downtown a couple of times to meet friends, and I took some pictures of that part of town.

I’ll only show 2 parts of the Lisbon Downtown, because I didn’t have time to explore further, and the weather wasn’t helping. On the first day I went to the Baixa-Chiado zone:

The second day I managed to go to Lisbon, again, to have lunch with the same friends as before, I went to a slightly different zone, right beside the other one, and I went down to Praça do Comércio and then right back up to Rossio and Restauradores, through Rua Augusta. I know this is all gibberish to you, so I’ll give you pictures. Too bad about the rain though…

Unfortunately, this is it. I promise to try to snag more pictures of different places of Lisbon the next times I’m there, deal?

I’m Back and how I failed spectacularly at the Tackle my TBR Read-a-Thon!

tackletbr

Hello people, I’m back from Portugal. After a crazy crazy week at home, I finally arrived to Barcelona yesterday morning (and at my house roughly 2h30m later… I have public transportation sometimes).

It was a SUPER CRAZY WEEK!! I’ll resume it for you, just because… I got there Friday night…

» Saturday I had a full day celebration at a friend’s house, to celebrate her birthday and PhD. After a day of eating and playing games, I finally got home at around 1 a.m.

» Sunday my brother picked me up at 9.30 a.m to go to the supermarket, then we went to his new house, looked around a bit, he showed me his 65′ and 55′ new TVs and played some PES, and then we had family lunch at our grandmother’s. After that, me, him and his wife went to a shopping mall, where he then left us and we went to IKEA next. We left IKEA completely drained at 10 p.m. and went to have a soup at another shopping mall… isn’t it great that things are open until 11p.m.?! After I had a freakout moment because I saw Throne of Glass in Portuguese, I went home.

IMG_20150920_225031

– By now I’d been home for 2 whole days and had seen my dad a great amount of 1 hr on the day I arrived! –

» Monday I decided to sleep in a little… that was until my sister called me (and woke me up), to announce that she and her husband were arriving at Lisbon and if I wanted to have lunch with them. My answer was yes (because you never say no to dining out with your siblings, right?). SEAFOOD!!!! 😀 My bro and sis-in-law joined us as well, and then we (again) went to my brother’s new house. It was time to start washing the linens and stuff, and I spent the day assembling the kitchen diner table and the chairs… bless IKEA. On a bright note, I managed to get away and have diner with my dad 😉

» Tuesday I was able to stay at home a bit. I had to work on some stuff for my advisor, so that worked out well. And after 2 days of being stuck in the same page of Queen of Shadows, I was able to move up a few chapters (not many though). My BFF then went to get me and we made our usual route to some starbucks, a few shops, diner and a movie. 😀 (and then staying talking until past 2a.m. – I’m in serious need of some sleep).

» My plan for Wednesday was to relax all day and read, nothing more. I almost managed doing just that… But my sis called to let me know she would be picking me up soon… I said no, she said yes, she won! So, again, bro’s home – it’s a really nice house – we had a snack, we went to my grandmother’s, then to see a friend, then back to his house, we had diner at 11 p.m. and me and my sister-in-law’s sister stayed until 2a.m. playing Dance Central on the X-Box, while the men were upstairs with their PES.

» Thursday was a good day! I made progress on Queen of Shadows! I read and watched a bit of TV, relaxed, managed to actually read some blog posts that I had been accumulating, and then me and my BFF went to have coffee with a friend of ours that we hadn’t seen in awhile.

– Are you tired yet? –

» Friday I went (guess…), yeah, bro’s house. They went to deliver furniture, mainly the couch and dining table  – very important – then we had lunch, me and sis went to starbucks, pharmacy, grandmother’s house. Then we had a family diner. My nephew arrived from the south of Portugal. After diner we all went to my brother’s house. Me and my BFF finally left past 1a.m. and I was super tired by then.

» Saturday (it’s almost over), I had a lunch with my family from my dad’s side. It’s always great to see my aunts 😀 ! By late afternoon I went shopping with my nephew and that was awesome, I had missed the kid. Then it was time to pack and sleep, because having a plane to catch at 6.45 a.m. is no joke.

WP_003134       WP_003131

My Grandmother/aunt’s house is full of these little treasures… Damn it, I was so cute when I was little…

Now, for the actual #TackleTBR Warp-Up, I didn’t do any good in this Read-a-Thon… not good at all.

WHAT MY GOALS WERE:

  • Finish my September TBR, which means reading Queen of Shadows (doing a buddy read – check the GR group 😀 ), An Infinite Number Of Parallel Universes  and  Finding Perfect. (Because I’ll finish The Assassin’s Blade today)

  • Read at least 2 other ARCs – which ones will depend on my mood;
  • Participate in 5 challenges;
  • Find some new exciting blogs to follow.

WHAT I actually managed:

  • I read nothing more, unless you count some form of fanfiction which I’m now apparently addicted to.

challenge_seasons

  • I hardly had time to check on the blogs that I already follow, least of all find new ones… it was a busy week.

I’m leaving, on a airplane…

… But I’ll be back in a week! LOL. I’m leaving today to go HOME!!! Oh yeah, I’m really needing a few days with family and friends. I’ve already packed and came to 2 startling realizations, first, every single t-shirt I set aside to take with me (a.k.a. my most worn pieces of clothing) are all fandom related! Yup!

DSC04669

Second realization, my suitcase has around 27 books inside right now… and the only purpose of even taking clothes is to not damage my precious books!

IMG_20150917_230257 DSC04678

My TBR shelf here is considerably lighter, but I can’t hold on to all my read and unread books here, so I just left those that I’ll probably get around to in the next 3 months.

I’ll probably ease up on the posting in the next few days, I suspect I’ll have a somewhat filled week, between helping my brother and sister in law furnish their new house, seeing some friends that I haven’t seen in months, being with my sister, hugging my nieces – because I miss the both of them so so much, and obviously, spending some time with my dad (I live in his house and all…). 😀

But I’ll be around and I’ll be on twitter a lot (because I’m hooked!) !
