Kindred Spirits (Rainbow Rowell)

‘Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.’
‘Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?’
‘Maybe.’

If you broke Elena’s heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she’s expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does.

What she’s not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

This was just such a fun, cute, short story. Too short in my opinion ;).

Honestly, Rainbow Rowell can do no wrong! I love everything she does. My main problem with this story was the size… I actually think that short stories work best as novellas from established books. It’s very hard to fully love a character that only had 62 pages to win you over. Still, these characters did.

Elena is very relatable – like all of Rainbow’s women – and my heart went to her. The girl lived and breathed Star Wars, and still, she had “normal” enough friends, that none of them were willing to wait in line with her… *cof – losers – cof*.

The line dinamic was so much fun and endearing. I loved to read about the bonds formed and the code, and how ultimately they were there for each other. And I really liked Gabe, and I honestly could read a whole novel about these 2, I mean, what would happen after the movie? Right?

I really liked this one, and it was a good way to wait until Rowell’s next book pops out (whenever that might be).

I’ve been on the fence about buying this book, it’s only a novella after all, but I guess it’s a Rainbow Rowell book so I definitely should lol!

You know that I totally agree on everything! I wish it had been longer, because I really, really liked those two. And I wonder like how their relationship will go when they are not in the line anymore. The story just kindled the fire for me.
