Book Traveling Thursdays: A book I’m thankful for

btt

Hello, welcome back to another Book Traveling 168709Thursdays, which a weekly meme created by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. The goal is to share the covers of a book related to that week’s theme, which you can see at the Goodreads group, indicating the original cover, the one of your country, your favorite and least favorite.

This week’s theme is “It’s Thanksgiving Time! Choose a book you’re thankful for“. So today I’m going a little out of the box, and with that I mean, I pick Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Now, hold your horses, ok? I don’t get the sentiment of shame and disdain that this book arouses. I’m extremely thankful for Twilight and let me tell you why: I was always a sporadic reader, in my late teens and early 20’s I read adult books, but I was never IN LOVE with reading. Until one day, when I had returned from my first stay in Barcelona, and my sister, mom and grandmother made me watch a vampire movie! I was hooked! I borrowed Twilight from my grandma, then I had to go out the next day and buy New Moon, and so on and so on. And then I went on Amazon and bought the set-box in english, and then I proceeded to read (for the first time) the 4 books in english. A month later I was buying my 7 Harry Potter books, and since then I haven’t stopped reading.

So, thank you Twilight, for making YA books explode, and for revealing to me the joy of reading, of staying until 4 a.m. reading because I just couldn’t put a book down… that’s what Twilight did for me.

Original COver:

I think that this is one of the most recognizable covers ever, right? I like this one 😉 !

COVER FROM MY COUNTRY (PORTUGAL) & COVER FROM THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN (SPAIN):

Well, this book exists in every language! Here you have the Portuguese edition, the Spanish movie tie-in edition and the catalan edition. I’m not a fan of this movie tie-in, they look so weird on this picture.

Favorite COVER(s):

I really like this two covers, the original one, and the white edition that came out in 2010. So pretty.

LEAST FAVORITE COVER(s):

Now onto some bad covers… First of is the UK first edition, and OMFG, what is going on there? It’s so ugly! Then it’s the Czech, which isn’t all that bad, but it’s really weird. Of course that the Russian cover HAD to me here, right? And last, but not least, it’s the Thai edition, which could have been a pretty cover, but it’s not…

Honorable Mention:

I’m not sure if this Indonesian edition had a bad or good cover. Well, it’s good because it’s kind of pretty, but on the other hand, it has absolutely nothing to do with the plot or story, and Bella isn’t even blonde!

    I didn’t know that Twilight had so many overs. By now I think it’s not a surprise that the russian cover is in the ugly covers. Also, the UK cover is terrible. What the heck is that?

  2. Syc @ The Lit Mermaid says:

    The white edition looks like a journal/planer to me but I like it! 🙂
    I find the UK edition cute but it looks weird as well. The other three look pretty hideous while the Indonesian cover reminds me of Rapunzel haha.
    Good thing the Filipino version kept the original cover which is still by far my favorite. 😀

    Ah, no wonder I felt like I recognized that Indonesian cover. It was all over the place on bookstores and libraries when it was the hype back in Indonesia where I lived 😀

    HAHAHA I legit LOL’d at the “bad covers.” What is up with those? XD I don’t even like Twilight anymore (but I am grateful that it got me back into reading!) but I’m so tempted to go out and buy those white editions. So stunning! x

    The Twilight cover is just classic! I had no idea the white version is even a thing, but I like it! You can really tell how pale Bella is because her arms almost blend in with the background. Haha! That UK version is soo bad it’s funny! And I’m sensing a pattern in the Russian covers! I’ve only done Book Traveling Thursdays twice, but already I’m noticing that Russian covers are all pretty bad. Even though the Indonesian cover doesn’t pertain to the story, I really love it! It’s so pretty! Happy Thanksgiving Cristina!
